The Sioux Falls Area Running Club and 605 Running Co., along with Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation, are hosting three kids cross-country meets this fall. The three-race cross-country series is for ages kindergarten through 6th grade. It’s a great opportunity to introduce your child to the joy of running; an activity for a lifetime. MEGA SKATE PARTY IN THE PARK MEMORIAL HOCKEY RINK
AGES: 5-12
Spend your holiday with Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation. Roll out your blades/skates and join us for a fun skate party at Memorial Hockey Rink. Roller skating is not only fun, it’s also a great workout for everyone. So, come out and join us and let’s have a fun afternoon of roller skating in the park. Music, roller skating games such as 4 corners and shoot the duck, along with some light refreshments, will be on hand. Skates are required and are provided by participants.

Our Outdoor Recreation specialist will take you on a vigorous hike to enjoy nature’s music, then a yoga flow for all levels as we watch the sunset. The trail is of moderate difficulty, so sturdy tennis shoes or boots are recommended. Finish the evening off with a yoga flow for all levels as we watch the sunset. The jigsaw puzzle competition starts at 9 A.M. with the winning team collectng some puzzle-related prizes and a Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation gift card. SAIL is a 12-week strength, balance and fitness program for adults 65+ to improve mobility, reduce the risk of falls, and improve quality of life while having fun meeting new people. Experienced instructors teach classes tailored to active older adults who wish to maintain or increase their fitness level. Chairs are available as needed. Looking for a fun and competitive outing? Join our Senior Disc Golf Putting Tour. We’ll play two different courses over the four-week tour. We will play a condensed course where the tee-off areas are closer to the baskets, with other competitions each night! Men and women will be divided into age divisions, with the lowest score being the name of the game. There will be various competitions each afternoon-longest drive, longest put, hole-in-one, and more–with nightly prizes. Make it to all four meetings to be eligible for our season prize. Our cardboard race is back on for 2023! Start building your boats now, and join our exciting race at the Midco® Aquatic Center. All boats will be judged based on creativity, sea-worthiness, and quickest to sink! Each boat will need up to two participants to commandeer the course. Boats must be constructed using corrugated cardboard and duct tape. No wood, Styrofoam, fiberglass, paint, or plastic. Life jackets for this event will be provided and must be worn by contestants. Swimsuits required. Registration required.

INDOOR SWIMMING LESSONS
Midco® Aquatic Center is a gold level provider of American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses. Swimming lessons will be available for all ages and abilities. Not only does learning to swim allow for you to be safe in and around the water, it also has many other added benefits. Learning to swim provides a lifelong skill that can provide fitness opportunities, improve your health, provide strength and coordination, and provide confidence in the water and motivation to continue to improve skill proficiencies. Night lessons only. Lessons are offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings for five weeks.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation wants YOU to work as a certified lifeguard during our year-round swimming season. We’re excited about building a great team of professional lifeguards. This course is a blended learning course format (19.5 hours in person, 7.5 hours online). The prerequisites for this course include being 15 years of age and having passed the pre-course swimming skills test.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR COURSE
AGES: 16+
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) training prepares you to teach children and adults water safety, survival, and swimming skills. Water Safety Instructors are in high demand, and teaching people to swim is a fun and rewarding part-time job for people of all ages. Upon completing the WSI course, participants will be certified to teach American Red Cross swimming lessons. This blended learning course includes an online portion (which must be met before the first day of class) and an instructorled classroom instruction skills session.

• For first-time swim pass buyers and renewal of a non-full-priced swim pass, visit Midco® Aquatic Center (or during summer season at any outdoor aquatic facility with exception of McKennan wading pool).

The daily pass allows you access to the facility from the time of purchase to the end of the operation day.
Shall be effective May 1 through Labor Day, and include the Midco® Aquatic Center, outdoor aquatic centers, and outdoor swimming pools. The outdoor aquatic facilities’ season of operation is generally between the months of May through August as established annually by Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation.
Shall be effective all operational days at the Midco® Aquatic Center beginning on Labor Day and ending April 30 of the following year.
