W
e truly appreciate the opportunity to update Santa Fe Style readers on Creative Santa Fe’s ongoing work to strengthen our city’s economy.
Each of our initiatives is a large-scale collaborative endeavor that engages nonprofit organizations, the city of Santa Fe, and the broader community. We continue to demonstrate that through collaboration and a shared vision, we can make a significant and lasting impact on our city. One of our largest and most ambitious projects to date is the Santa Fe Arts + Creativity Center. Over the past few years, we have been diligently working to make this project a reality. The center will comprise affordable live-work space to serve two critical city needs—affordable housing and workforce training. In addition to 50-60 live-work units, this project will integrate community resources, such as shared workshops, meeting rooms, exhibition and performance spaces, parks and open spaces, and on-site programming to provide economic development support for residents. The Arts + Creativity Center will also support the surrounding neighborhood and the broader creative economy and will be an innovative hub at the intersection of Santa Fe’s creative cultures.
Over the past few months, we have made enormous strides to see this project to fruition. In April, the Santa Fe City Council unanimously voted to donate a five-acre parcel on Siler Road for the space. Creative Santa Fe also received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Our Town Creative Placemaking grant. The $150,000 endowment will support the design and programming for the Arts + Creativity Center. The national attention we are receiving for this ambitious, dynamic public-private partnership shines a spotlight on our city. The incredible local support demonstrates the value our city places on retaining and training the creative talent that defines our community. The Arts + Creativity Center, along with all of Creative Santa Fe’s other projects, is a high-impact collaboration that will help to ensure our city’s affordability, sustainability, and vibrancy for years to come.
