Welcome to yearbook 2015
A
s the end of the year approaches I would like to reflect on the delightful year we as a community have had. Our aim is to open minds, create magic and change the world. Over this year the world has certainly changed, in some cases not for the better. We however, have been able to make some positive impact through initiatives including rice day, send my friend to school, bake sales, golf competitions, bandana day and of course the fabulous Moulin Rouge to name but a few. I hope the experiences the students have had this year allowed them to open their minds, to consider other cultures, to explore different perspectives and to contemplate alternative approaches to problems. It is through opening minds that we are able to create magic. The magic that we all see happens because the students connect and get inspired. It might have been an inspirational speaker such as fearless John or Robina Courtin, an inspirational teacher of which we have so many, or an inspirational experience such as a trip to Morocco or a discussion in class. We have witnessed some outstanding talent from our sports focused students this year in tennis, golf, football, fencing, horse riding, show jumping, kite surfing, football and rugby. On many level we have some outstanding athletes, who manage to balance the demands of school with their passion for sport. Not only are they able to develop their passion, but they also excel. We have some AndalucĂan champions, some Spanish and British champions and some world champions in our community.
4
SIS Yearbook • 2015
Our arts focused students have performed in numerous school based events, but also in the Gibraltar world music festival, Manila music festival, sung on various local radio stations, had art work displayed in local competitions and of course they shone on stage at the San Roque theatre in our version of Moulin Rouge. Our school aims to allow our students to learn through experience. Experiential learning therefore is key and when I speak to students at the end of the year they share these moments. For many schools the difficulties associated with trips causes them not to allow their students to learn through experience. I would like to acknowledge the hard work, determination and collaboration of our team of staff who work tirelessly to allow our students to learn in the way we believe in. Finally we aim to enable our students to take part in changing the world. Change happens in many ways, but if we can all play a small part, then over time big change is possible. Service learning is essential to this part of our mission. We have provided opportunities for all students in our school to engage in helping the world outside of school. This might be through local links at Castellar Zoo, or Hogar Betania, or wider reaching links through our connections in Asni and Uganda. The link with parents is critical in helping us to educate the whole child. I wish to thank you for trusting us with your son / daughter and know that together in partnership we will continue to guide the students in our care to be enthused, creative, knowledgeable global citizens.

A
nother action packed year is nearly over, a year full of excitement, challenges and new experiences for our students and teachers. For myself, this has been an extra special year as it has been my first in the role of Head of Primary. When reflecting back on this year, I feel extremely proud of all our students and teachers who have achieved so much.
We started the year with many changes. We welcomed several new teachers and other teachers changed their year groups. This resulted in many new teaching teams. It did not take long for these teams to gel and the individual strengths, ideas and personalities have facilitated continual school improvement. A huge thank you to our dedicated Primary staff for their enthusiasm, dedication and professionalism, and for providing a year of wonderful teaching and learning experiences for all our students. With a focus on the importance and impact of the learning environments many changes have occurred. To maximise opportunities for collaborative and flexible groupings we have opened up our EC2 and P1 classrooms. The addition of an ‘outside classroom’ to P1 has been a great success. Our EC students have benefitted from the replacement and extension of the padded outdoor play area. There has also been provision for learning support and Spanish teaching rooms as well as preparation areas for teachers. All of these have had a positive impact on Primary teaching and learning.

Message from the head of primary
Experiential learning has always played an integral part at SIS. With over twenty trips taking place, this year has been no exception. Constantly looking for ways to connect and extend students’ learning, students in EC2, P1, P2, P4 and P5 have enjoyed new excursions. Other main events have included the two fabulous Christmas Productions in Early Childhood, P1 and P2 and later in the year, the fantastic P3-P6 musical production of Oliver. The Primary Student Council must also be commended for helping organise our first Spring Fair in May when around four hundred people enjoyed an afternoon of activities. The end of P6 is a milestone which marks the culminating experiences of the students passing through Primary. For seventeen of our P6’s their SIS journey began in EC1/EC2. Over the years it has been a pleasure seeing our students develop and progress. All the Primary Teachers and myself wish our P6 the best of luck in their MYP adventure. Wishing everyone a wonderful and relaxing summer and looking forward to seeing you in September!

T
his has been yet another remarkable year at SIS. It always amazes me how many incredible learning experiences the students, teachers and whole school community manage to squeeze into such a short space of time, evidence of which can be seen in this yearbook.
It has been extraordinarily fulfilling in my new role as Head of Middle School to see these learning experiences happen daily. Being part of the new leadership team, which immediately gelled together so efficiently, has instilled me with great confidence and optimism for the future progress and continued development of SIS. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness the collaborative passion and dedication of fellow colleagues, students and parents / guardians in our quest to consistently challenge and improve all that we do.

Message from
the head of middle school
From a middle school perspective, I have been extremely proud to be part of the team that introduced the MYP Flexible Pathways to our students. This initiative has been designed to offer more opportunities, enabling students to discover their unique talent; be this in sports, arts, languages and sciences or beyond. Watching the Class of 2015 graduate filled me with a great sense of pride at the integral role Sotogrande International School has played to help craft these young, independent adults. As always, we will be sad to say “Farewell” to our leavers, but content in the knowledge that we have given them a great start in life. Have a wonderful and well-deserved summer break.

Message from the head of upper school
I
am writing these few words on the eve of the D2 Graduation Celebration, which causes me to reflect on the past year and all that has happened. Last May we bid a fond farewell to the Class of 2014 who graduated with excellent results, many securing a place at to their first choice university. It is worth reinforcing that the SIS International Baccalaureate Programmes continue to provide the best possible preparation for our students as they enter higher education and life beyond. Our Graduating Class of 2015 have survived the IB exams and I think that many of them even enjoyed the experience on occasion! I have been impressed by the D2 students’ approach in the final run-up to this challenging episode in their lives. We eagerly anticipate another set of deserved results that will again allow our students to pursue their dreams and continue to follow their passion. The D1 Class are now assuming the role of elder statesmen and women within the school community. The next few months are a key time in their lives and will see them completing course work, a 4000 word research essay, all of their CAS commitments, mock and final examinations and, not least, deciding their

future paths and making applications to colleges and universities. Finally, in September, the diploma team will be welcoming the next cohort of students, arriving from M5 onto the DP programme. They can look forward to lots of stimulating and interesting learning, a myriad of CAS opportunities including two fantastic experiential trips to Tarifa and Asni, curriculum trips and projects and also lots of homework! I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the dedication of the SIS teachers and advisors, who unstintingly give their time and expertise to ensure that our students have the best possible school experience and preparation for life beyond school. I wish everybody at SIS a fabulous holiday and look forward to another fantastic year in 2015-16. ÂĄFelicitaciones a la Clase del 2015!

HISTORY TRIP
E
arly on Saturday morning we departed for London. We arrived to beautiful weather, checked in to our hotel, then at lunchtime we headed off to visit the British Museum and afterwards did an extensive walking tour of London, taking in the river, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and back through Leicester Square to Covent Garden. The quote of the trip was supplied by Franco, on entering the Natural History Museum, "This is mind blowing, I never knew dinosaurs really existed!"

It wasn’t easy but when it all came together all the hard work paid off; seeing everyone really enjoy themselves and knowing it was all for a good cause. The profit will be used to invest into Association Tiwizi's projects within the Asni community, Morocco. Thank you for supporting us! VICTORIA LOCKE (D1)

AYNE MELISBrSitisAh P - 19/01/97 “Melly”
FAVOURITE QUOTES: “I'm not drawing a Venn diagram” - Henry Miller “If you wanna kill someone, you need a really small surface area” - Mr Moore “Raise your hand if you've ever felt personally victimised by the IB programme.” “Matty, don't die on the plane man. You gotta stay alive like Tupac did until he died” - William Courtney "
BEST MEMORY OF SIS: I have had way too many incredible memories in the past 8 years. These memories range from the M5 trip to Asilah, having dinner with a host family with Annika and Sabrina then somehow ending up wearing the mother of the family’s traditional Moroccan dresses. We then discovered we had lost track of time completely and the entire school and the police had been searching for us, but we luckily made it to the ferry in time before it left without us. All done in traditional Moroccan dress of course. n addition to this, I have amazing memories of all my advisory classes over the years and would like to say a massive thank you to teachers such as Mr. Reichert, Mr Kearney, Mr Grist, Ms Wiltshire, Mr Tong, Ms Stone, Mr Mungles and Ms Bannell. Who have all individually helped me become not only a better student but have taught me multiple life lessons this includes how to get away with murder, how to not have a nervous breakdown whenever I feel stressed and “saving the drama for your momma.” Also a shout-out to Katrina Moody, who I no way would've been able to survive IB without. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: If all goes well, end up in the university of Bath or Bristol to study a psychology degree. Perhaps after this go on to do medicine postgraduate so I can specialise in psychiatry.

FAVOURITE QUOTES: "Today is the first day of the rest of your lives" - Kerry Wickersham "When I am in class my name is Mr. Mungles but when I am in the football pitch my name is the MUNGULATOR." - Jason Mungles "Umm Chocolate" - Tracy Maes "Haced ticki tickiii" - Lourdes Villafranca Porras "Todito todou todou " - Lourdes Villafranca Porras
BEST MEMORY OF SIS: The history trip was by far one of the highlights at SIS, for me it was the first time I had ever left Spain. The trip was fascinating; this was due to the hard work and organisation of Mr Mungles. He managed to organise the time so that we were able to see a lot of different iconic areas of London. One of my favourites was the London dungeons, that had an extraordinary atmosphere which offered a very clear interpretation of how the London dungeons were and the mentality of different individuals of the time period. To this we have to add Madam Tussaud's, which was again a new experience for me. The reason why I enjoyed it so much was the company I was in. Despite being surrounded by figures of famous and glamorous individuals, the fact that I was surrounded by my class colleagues was the final touch that made this visit such a happy memory. The final and most memorable experience was when our class, along with Mr Mungles, went to see the play War Horse. This play is well known in London and was advertised everywhere. I felt very happy that Mr Mungles managed to organise for us to see it, I was entranced from the second the play started and the lights went down. It was fascinating how the different actors represented the horse and other animals, I had never seen such a thing in my whole life. Along with this the voices of the singers were impressive and offered a great joy to everyone there. I will never forget this trip and will always remember the people that made it so special. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: On the professional perspective I aim to become a sports and health scientist and physiotherapist. On a personal perspective be ripped and be a fantastic trainer and athlete.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: My first joke in SIS: Sadly, I can no longer remember the joke but all I know is that it was offensive and that our young teenage minds thought that it was very funny, prompting the student portion of the class to laugh. Others: • The times Sophus did sports competitively and went full Sophus. • The time Max offended ________. • The time Vico and I talked to girls/the time I talked to girls and Vico was also there. • The time Sam corrected________. • The time Nick played Spanish romance (the first time at least). • The time Julian was nice to __________. • That one time when we all had to huddle together for warmth when the generator went out. • Dance club with Omer. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I honestly have no idea. There’s a lot I would like to do. Quite a lot I know I won't get the chance to. wwReally, I'd like to see where life takes me. Don't really know what to say now. I guess all I could say is that, as excited as I am for the future, I don't want to go.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Mrs Pinnock getting a cramp in the middle of business class was truly hilarious. Crying with laughter with Pabs and Enriques anytime we got the chance. Morocco trips in M5 and D1 were an unforgettable experience. Music with Mr. Wix was definitely the most enjoyable lessons. Being part of the SIGA golf team has been incredible and I could not be more grateful for all the support the academy has given me. Shout out to the best advisor of all time: Martin Grist PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Study at Old Dominion University, Virginia USA. Turn golf professional at 25, play on the PGA tour. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: When practicing for the IAYP we went on a navigational trek where we had to use a compass and map to go from one place to another. While getting completely lost on the way we also managed to loose Chris (who found his way home). It is a good memory as it was a really relaxed and fun day filled with banter walking with friends... it also helped that we didn't have Chris (joke). PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I intend to go to either Sheffield or St George’s University in England and study medicine, after spending the summer relaxing and recovering from the traumas of the IB. After finishing my university course I would also like to attempt going on an expedition and undertaking a challenge like climbing Kilimanjaro or trekking to the North Pole. In 10 years I hope to be specialising in a medical field and also keeping in contact with some of the great friends that I have met over my 11 years in SIS.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: SIS has been a home to me since 2006. At the beginning of my academic attendance, I wasn't really enjoying school however, as I developed my social and academic network throughout the years, my fondness for SIS rapidly grew on me. SIS has given me the privilege to meet so many people that I consider the closest to me and whom I hope remain that way for a long time. I am both sad, eager to leave SIS and to start a life of my own thanks to SIS' help and push towards the future. It has been a pleasure to ‘work’ here and I hope to revisit in the near future. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Pass IB, go to Uni, get a degree, get a job, eventually start up my own business, make millions and live life!.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Sam, Nick, Chris, Jamie and I were planning on trekking the nearby mountain paths (Atlas), which were severely undeveloped. Fun, if not for the torrential rain, mud/clay sliding and powerful winds that occurred 40 minutes in when we were already past the steep climbing (meaning the way back was pretty life threatening). Long story short, thanks to my shoes which had the grip of bowling shoes, I was separated from the group, and couldn't see or hear them. I slipped more times than I can count and was far too close to too many muddy mountain edges. Luckily, I followed a mountaineer Berber and his donkey towards safety, regrouping with my great friends about 15 minutes away from our staying area. The actual best part of this is getting clean from the hardened clay and falling asleep for the next 11 hours. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I would love to be finished with school, to start a new chapter with university in either Rotterdam NL or London UK and to study psychology. I intend to earn a degree in industrial-organizational psychology with hopes that I'd be able to travel and work in an international setting and importantly to help those in need. In 10 years or more, I hope to have finished my studies and have a secure, fun living while doing what I like; to look back knowing things were worth it.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: The day Willie maliciously ambushed SIS as he committed a massacre with his spear-like finger nails. The school was not prepared for this mass genocide and was subsequently brought to lock down. The prepubescent, crazy eyed, mouth-frothing 12 year old could not be tamed. Fire alarms shuddered through the gallows as children crawled through corridors to escape from the animal that was Willie. Initially, he was being treated as a mere health and safety hazard; however, using his left handed scissors, he reshaped his nails into weapons similar to those of the bronze-age. Students were evacuated and many became refugees in Portugal. Willie was consequently exiled to North Korea and to this day the legend of "William Courtney" is only ever spoken in whisper, to avoid the potential infection of another student bearing finger nails of such length. We believe he now goes by the name Kim Jong-un. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Attend either Bath or Leeds University to study International Business to then open a dance school in Costa Rica.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Firstly, I love Christopher. The thing I hold most dear would be our casual times together with top-notch banter, but really, there is much more. Something that stands out though would be the time that I went on a charity trip to Uganda with the Kindred Project. It was made special, not only by what we did there and the people we met, but also because of the people that came with us and were there with me. It was a month that really changed my perspective and built many relationships. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I will probably be going to Newcastle University to study cell and molecular biology in hopes of being able to secure one of the many research positions in the great labs of England. It will take me several years to obtain the proper qualifications and such, but I don't mind staying in education for as long as I can. I'm not ready for taxes and responsibility.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: By coming into the community of Sotogrande International School, I have learned and experienced a lot which will be positive memories for me. One of the best memories I have from my time on SIS is the History trip to London in D1. I had so many memories from the trip but the best one would be during one of the lectures where Angelina, Muriel and I decided to bring with us an oblong cake each, for lunch, and Mr. Mungles looked weirdly at us asking if we not were supposed to slice it up and all of us responded with “Neeehh!.” Another thing that has given me many memories is being a weekly boarder I have also gained many great memories and experiences that I will take with me. I became very close to some of the people where we made great memories together. Especially when I was staying over a weekend and on Friday after school, Muriel and me would go for a walk with some other people where we would be happy and doing random things, such as pretending to be a car or a dolphin. Also, I did not only get contact with the people in the Diploma year, but also other students within the MYP. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: My plans for the future is to go to a college in Norway and study to become a social worker so I could help people that need it. The plan is to work for child welfare and help the children that are sWuffering due to problems within their family.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: To be honest, it is quite hard to highlight just one memory from my experience at SIS. It has been 15 years in which I have lived amazing experiences with great people. I had some of the best times when we went on school trips with all people from the year and had the opportunity to build relationships with them. The times with Enrique and Calvs where always great and we always found a chance to cry of laughter about anything that happened. In addition, lessons with Mrs. Pinnock were always fun even though she didn't intend them to be. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: There are many memories from the past two years which I'll never forget. I honestly cannot name a single one as most striking as there are just so many memories - from the trips to Tarifa, Asni, and London, as well as the countless memories from my boarding experience. There are numerous terrible jokes which my friends and I laugh about whenever something reminds us about them, an infinite number of nights spent awake talking or watching the stars, and the faces, voices, and gestures of people who make these memories so individually remarkable. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Starting on the 1st of September, I will be doing a voluntary social year in Germany in a hospital where I will be working on the surgical floor of the ER and Neurology sections. Afterwards I intend to study Medicine in Germany, preferably in Berlin, Leipzig, Heidelberg, or Münster. In 10 years I hope to have completed the medicine course in which I also want to include an exchange semester in the UK, where I want to move aftergraduating from university. I hope that I'll be as excited and passionate about medicine in 10 years as I am at the moment, and that, ifnot, I will have switched to another course. Ireally hope to stay in touch with my friends here and that I'll be as immature 10 years from now as I am right now.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: I've been in SIS for the last 15 years and there has been a ton full of wonderful memories that I have experienced. From the on -going banter in Mr. Grist's class to the many trip that I have participated in. The Uganda trip has to be mentioned seeing that it probably was the best experience that I have ever lived and I would recommend it to everyone. Or the Asni trip in D1 where we would have massive pillow fights in the room or wrestle till the last man standing and of course that would always be me (NOT). The IAYP trip in M5 where we tried to cheat our way through to make the trek shorter but ended up getting completely lost and having to break down fences to make our way back. The Portugal trip was one to remember especially the way back home when Kevin Dennis demonstrated to us how a freestyle rap should be done "Do you want some? I'll give it ya!" And the fact that we have managed to not buy a football ourselves to bring to school and play but yet managed to play football almost every day with footballs that we have found around school has been quite impressive. To be fair I've had an amazing time here in SIS and I would like to thank everyone who has been part of it ; my friends, all of D2 and the teachers. Thank you. "

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Both the Asni and the history trip to London were the highlights of the past two years. The History trip was one of the funniest I have had in my life. I really liked the London dungeons and the Madame Tussauds museum. Every thing was really well organized and we got to see so much in such a short space of time. One of the best moments I had was during the Madame Tussauds’ museum visit where I took pictures with most of the statues and horribly failed at trying to create a wax figure of my hand. The lectures were also very interesting. As for the Asni trip it was the first I ever had of that kind. I remember being quite worried before the trip about what was awaiting us but it turned out to be one of the best trips ever. I felt like I learned a lot of their culture and saw a totally different world yet so full of kindness. Seeing so many people helping each other to build up their community was a life changing experience. The activities were also extremely fun and the food was amazing. I especially loved the tea. . PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I will probably study in the UK and I will probably take a year off after that once I become 18. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: I think the most outstanding memory is how Mr Grist was chasing me in M5, forcing me to do my Personal Project, but the lack of English and understanding of what was actually happening around me couldn't let me neither finish the project, or understand what actually this guy wanted from me. What also stands out in my mind is the amount of Russian students in this school three years ago- we had around 6 Russianspeaking people in our year and 2 below. This year, we had 7 Russian-speaking students in our year, 6 in the year below (D1) and 8 in the one following (M5). . PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Actual plans for the future differ from the ones I wish to happen, sadly. I want to be a musician (professional guitarist), or at least a producer on a famous metal record label. After 10 years, I see myself as being in an art group of Blizzard Entertainment community, or being self-employed as concept artist, illustrator or animator. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: One of the most memorable moments since I started studying at SIS happened in Asni. Before going there, I was thinking for a long time what presents I could bring to children. Eventually, I have given out balloons to village’s kids. The fact of how happy they were after getting balloons, such a usual thing for us, made me think how much we SIS students have, compared to others and that our school makes us realise that by having such trips. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: My plans for nearest future is to go to university in UK or Singapore to study Mathematics with Finance or Business Analytics to learn how Mathematics is useful in different areas such as Business, Finance, Management, Computer Science. I have a dream to connect my career with Mathematics, although I also would like my future work to be concentrated the environmental and social impacts of business and financial actions.

FAVOURITE QUOTES: "Hacer ticky ticky en Managebac” - Miss Lourdes “Oh my god Andrea, your bag annoys me, it’s always everywhere”- Angelina
BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Being in SIS for 10 years, has made me experience so many different and incredible things with amazing people, but if I had to pick only one memory out of them all, it would be the trip to Morocco. It was such a nice and new experience, which left a mark on me. I had so much fun, learnt so many things and had the greatest time with the best people. It’s a memory I wouldn't mind repeating over and over again. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: In 10 years time I see myself working as a fashion designer, or anything related to fashion, attending all of the fashion shows in Paris, NY, Milan, London etc… designing new clothes, and feeling happy and motivated with what I do. For this to happen I will hopefully go to Saint Martin's university in London to study fashion design and have the best time and make the most out of it.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: The Memories of car rides in Banus, dancing while sitting and singing to one of Sabrina’s old CDs that were laying around e.g Girlfriend were the best ones. Jamie trying to explain that 1:00 am is technically not too late to eat since its technically morning and so the perfect time to have breakfast. The London trip with my history class was memorable as well, even though I forgot to take another pair of shoes to London and ended up walking around with bright pink trainers. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Right now I am not quite sure what I will do. I may study aviation management in Germany or Media & Communication Management. On the other hand I may take a gap year or do an apprenticeship. In 10 years I see myself successfully managing career and family. I want to live in a nice house in a nice village with two big dogs and crazy neighbours like in Desperate Housewives and still stay in contact with some of my friends from SIS.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Head off to university in the UK, either Bristol or Derby to study either Civil & Infrastructure Engineering or Architectural Technology & Design. After uni I'm looking to work in Asia and explore that corner of the globe. I don't know where I see myself in 10 years, but I want to have my own civil engineering company. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Sotorox a Rock Concert, was not only one of the best memories I collected from school but one of the most prevalent experiences I've been lucky enough to have. This was a big scale event placed in the sis gym, occupying an audience up to 1000 spectators. Through this I was privileged to gain the experience of working behind professional equipment and a bonding experience through the hard work of pulling of an event of this scale, not only in the production but on the performance duality of a concert. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Even though I have only been here for two years, I’ve met some of the weirdest and most amazing people. Almost a thousand days passed like weeks and I still don’t believe these are the last weeks of my school life. I would like to remember the Tarifa bonding trip and Asni, how the bus forgot us. Boarding since the very beginning. We (almost) left Omer alone to die on a mountain trail, but I had an amazing time. I would definitely miss the Physics and Geography banters, the art lessons (with Helga!), and of course our HL Math family of 5, <3 Mrs. B. Even though school days weren`t particularly the most exciting part of teenage life, I would always think, “who else would communicate with me using random voices besides Patti and Ellie?” and the (very) appropriate English classes with Mrs. Stone, plus a little help from Willie and his story breaks. Last but not least, thank you Mr. Tong for being the most awesome advisor (even though you were my only advisor).;I loved our Friday quizzes PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I plan to take a gap year and spend it in South America and Asia as a volunteer in construction and environmental conservation projects. I might go to university to study Architecture, but right now I´m just seeing where I end up after my South America trip, but I hope that in the future, I could work to help rebuild cities after disasters, otherwise I´ll live in an Argentinian jungle with 2 llamas and a sloth named ‘Mr. Jones’.

We started to bully each other in public and at one point people thought we were actually bullying each other when this old lady tried to break us up. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: My plan is to have one gap year to fully focus on music production by locking myself in the studio for a year with an unlimited supply of noodles. In this gap year I am going to find out what I want to do in the future, university being one option. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: My best memory of SIS hasn't yet happened. The day I receive my Diploma will be the best day by far. It will show me how much hard work pays off. I am so eager to leave because I am so enthusiastic about starting my own life, being independent and building my future.I will be eternally grateful to SIS for giving me the chance to meet a small handful of people I know that will be in my life forever. I'd like to thank all the teachers that believed in me and pushed me until the end because if it weren't for them none of the graduating year of 2015 would be in this position. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I intend to go to University at the Hotel Management School Les Roches in Marbella. I don't particularly have a plan for the future but I am determined on receiving my degree and to travel the world. In 10 years time who knows where I will be. FAVOURITE QUOTES: "Anaaaa, una media tostada con jamon y queso” “Primitive” - Sir. Richard Tong
BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Having been at SIS for 11 years I have many fond memories, one of them being the football tours to Portugal with the two Kevs and Ash. Even though we got knocked out both years on penalties against Italians, it was still a great experience and a right laugh with a good bunch of mates. Others include, the Morocco trip where I got tonsillitis and Mr. Wix forced me to somehow transport a huge pile of donkey poo up a hill, so I decided to pay a young Moroccan kid 2 Durham's to shovel it into a wheelbarrow and carry it up the hill for me. I’ll also remember the history trip in D1, where I had to keep up with Mr. Mungles marching around London with my leg in a cast on crutches, as well as the Ski trip in M2 and going up to Sierra in M5 with a few mates to film my personal project. Also, the yearly camping trips to Tarifa, the many challenge weeks, football matches at lunch times on the pitch, secondary sports days, “study period” gossip sessions in the common room, participating in SotoRox twice, shaving a bald patch in my hair and Ana’s unforgettable media tostadas con jamon y queso in the cantina at break time. Many thanks to my friends who have made my school experience enjoyable and finally thanks to the teachers who actually marked my work on time. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Next year I will be taking a Gap year in England to play football and hopefully find a professional contract. I will probably end up playing for Chelsea on 150k a week and captain England at the next World Cup. As a result of my superior talent, all the kids in your school will wear football shirts with my name on the back and watch videos of my goals in class whilst you are trying to teach them. If that doesn't go to plan then I'll most likely travel and enjoy a ski season somewhere before finding a job or ending up university.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: There was a moment when we where in challenge week, it was after a long day and most of us were exhausted, when the day drew closer to night. It was time for lights out, Matt, our guide came and sat with us in front of our tent, and we started to tell anecdotes to each other. As the night grew darker more of us joined, until we had a large circle of us, just listening and sharing experiences. We lost track of time in midst of the stories and spent several hours just having a great time. Times when we acted as a family, and we would be a group again where the best highlights, the trips always brought out the best of all of us. The camping trip, where we surprised the teachers for the first time at how well behaved we where. We also spent the night telling jokes and stories, using light pointers to star gaze. One of the jokes where Mr. Wix started by saying, “what did seven chicks say after they left?” and Nick interrupted by saying, “Thanks Nick!”. Moreover the Asni trip in D1 was very memorable. Having singalongs in the long journey, reading out book passages to each other, having intense card games which ended in a fuming raged quit, or spending time going in and out of train rooms, as we waited for the ten hour journey to end. Admiring the views of the Moroccan mountains that were still covered with winter’s snow, when a group of us would make the effort in waking up in the crack of dawn, to admire the scenery in the freezing cold, or climbing up to the hill behind us to have a better view point. Favourite memories will always be when we would be united as a large family. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I intend the future to be as adventurous and spontaneous as I can make it, with aspirations to travel to as many countries as possible, and discover what the world has to offer. Of course school has to be the priority so those plans will be put on hold until I have finished my course infilm production. Hoping to get into the film industry as a filmmaker/director/producer, documenting my journey in this crazy life. Then diploma was fun with Mrs. Maes' screams, Mrs. Lourdes' "Todo, todo, todo…'' School trips, (ASNI) and of course the last stages of IB filled with stress but also parties and lagoons of thoughts about the future. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: "One of my fondest memories is the D1 Morocco trip where we went to Asni. The fact that we had almost the entire year together for a few days working together to make other people's lives better made it one of the best school trips I've had. . Bonding with the kids of the community was also a memorable experience. Even though my foot painfully hurt due to a previous bike accident, during the entire trip, I would definitely love to go back on this trip. Another great memory is when Laura forced me to join IAYP which I was certain I would hate. It turns out, Laura made a good choice in making me go because the arguing over a map and then making up over a camp fire and marshmallows was a great bonding activity. Mainly when the night came and we had organised our tents, we met in a main tent and had 'secretive' conversations that were actually clearly heard throughout the entire campsite. Lastly, the first day I moved into the San Roque boarding house, both Sabrina and I went around people's rooms stealing their toilet paper because we didn't have any, as we wanted to stock up. I will always remember these amazing memories, especially the boarding ones."
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I would like to attend Harptury College in the UK to take a course in Equestrian Coaching. Before that though, I am taking a year out to explore and travel, and hopefully get some experience working at a competition yard.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: After such a long time at SIS, the dull and less dull memories begin to blur together. However a memory that jumps out is certainly the D1 Morocco trip where there was a balance of new cultural experiences and building of friendships. Another memory which I am sure will live on with me are all the great teachers I have had over the years - all of whom have taught me so much. I'd like to immortalise some of those teachers in this yearbook, those whose support and teaching has influenced me so much: Mrs. Hartland, Mrs. Maes, Mr. Tong, Mr. Reichert, Mr. Cronin, Mrs. Rocio, Mr. Wickersham, Mr. Barling, Mr. Mungles, Mr. Kennedy, Dr. Kievit and Mrs. Wiltshire. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I hope to go to UCL to study medicine. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Every experience I've had at SIS has contributed to my overall impression of it, which will linger with me. However, without question, it's been the teachers here above all else that have most impacted me. Ms. Maes: Your sense of humour and truly uncontainable joy above all else always made me enjoy your English lessons, and the material we were learning. Mr. Reichert: I always looked forward to technology classes because I knew I would be given the opportunity to pursue my own line of investigation, regardless, using my own methods to achieve my own goals. It was truly liberating to be able to decide for myself what to learn, for which I am tremendously grateful. Mr. Tong: I was always in awe by your ability to dissect every line of prose, extracting every possible meaning and offering unparalleled explanations. You made me delve deeper into literature, and see it with a new perspective, for which I am grateful. I would also like to thank you for when you spent your own time teaching me briefly during the MYP whilst with Miss Maes.Mr. Mungles: Your passion for history, politics and economics is completely evident from your explanations and demeanour in class, as you'd go from one tangent to the other, interweaving concepts to provide a truly unique and thorough explanation, with a wealth of knowledge. Thank you not only for history, but providing assistance with university admissions with just as much fervour and your notorious methodical planning. Ms. Bannell: I doubt there are many teachers that would let a student veer off on his own research and studies in class. For trusting me enough to do that, I am incredibly thankful. Thank you for all your guidance and support during the diploma. Ms. Stone: I particularly enjoyed your sense of humour, and the riveting, thought provoking debates we've had. I'm hesitant to say I agreed with all your perspectives, but it has been enlightening in some cases and I certainly cannot contest the masterful way you conveyed and argued your points. Ms. Kearney: Thank you for helping to organise my classes in diploma physics and biology whilst I was still in the MYP - it was a particularly impactful and positive change in my education.I am grateful to all my teachers, including SIS Yearbook • 2015 those I have not had space to mention, and when I am in a position to teach at university, I will remember you all, and do my best to emulate each of your qualities.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: I’ve been at this school since I was 4 years old, the amount of memories I have here are endless, but I must say my most recent and loved experience was the Morocco Trip in M5. Was one of best experiences I've had in a long time, and wish I could go back and do it all again. Got to know all my old friends all over again and got to know the teachers outside of school and had so much fun. At first me and my friends were worried about where we were going, but it brought the best out of us and we all cried when we left. That's why I think it was one of the best experiences, I learned a lot from it.
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I decided to take a gap year, mainly because I am still unsure of what I want to do with my life and thought I needed some time before making any big decisions. However during my Gap year, I will be working for a professional equestrian stable, with an Olympic rider, here I will get some real life experience into the equine world, which I want to remain in. I will later go to Uni and study Equine Reproduction and in the far future plan on having my own breeding stable and trade my own line of horses.
