Rerun… to New Episodes
By Pastor Andra Allen Standberry
When we think of rerun from a television perspective, we think of a television show we are watching again that we have seen before. If we have watched that show a number of times, we can almost say the lines verbatim. So, perhaps it is safe to say another name for rerun is repeat. What do you think?
Watching reruns have excellent value such as we get an opportunity to learn more about the plot of the story that we did not notice before; we get an opportunity to see new a segment we missed in the initial viewing; and we can get an opportunity to realize in many instances that we have outgrown the show and that it does not appeal to us anymore! rebellion seemed to be a common thread of their crisis and overall journey. Even Miriam, Moses sister, was struck with leprosy (Num. 12) for rebelling against Moses for marrying an Ethiopian woman, but God healed Miriam because of Moses’ intercession on her behalf.
This passage of scripture came to mind regarding rerun. Deuteronomy 1 and it reads 6 The LORD our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. 7 Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. 2 (It takes eleven days to go from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea by the Mount Seir road.) 1These are the words Moses spoke to all Israel in the wilderness east of the Jordan— that is, in the Arabah—opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab. [NIV]
Here, Moses gives a recount of God’s promises to Israel. Horeb is another name for Mt. Sinai. This journey would have normally taken the children of Israel 11 days, but it ended up taking them almost 40 years. Why did it take them so long when they were so close? The King James Study Bible stated five crisis were recorded of their journey: the first one was on thirst (Exodus 15:22-27); the second one centered on hunger (Exodus 16); the third one centered on thirst again (Exodus 17:1-7); the fourth one centered on war (Exodus 17:8-16); and the fifth dealt with overwork (Exodus 18:1-27). Murmuring, complaining, and In many instances, not getting what we want causes us to murmur, complain and eventually rebel, which represents the absence of thanksgiving, appreciation, and gratefulness. Selfishness is at the root of this, and rebellion is as a sin of witchcraft (1 Sam 15:23). We can change the outcome of our life story by carefully reviewing the passages of scripture above denoting the five crisis that caused the nearly 40 year Israelites rerun. The primary value in my opinion of the Israelite 40 year rerun was to learn more about the plot we did not notice before (John 10:10) which is a big one: the devil comes but for to kill, steal and destroy but I (Jesus) came that you may have life and have it more abundantly(paraphrased). My prayer, take home word, and hope for us is: start living new episodes in our lives. How do we do that? By asking God to reveal Jesus Christ to us every day for without the revelation of Jesus Christ each day, our minds and heart will not change nor will we know our purpose and God’s plan for our lives. Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Eliass; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. [KJV]
God bless and peace!
