college in 1869, SIU has grown into a comprehensive university that prepares thousands of students each year for productive and meaningful careers, contributes cutting-edge research to benefit society and improves communities across the state through volunteerism and commitment to service.

We would not be the university that we are today without the dedicated

efforts of all of our employees and the generous support of the citizens of Illinois and elected and appointed leaders at all levels of government.  We are grateful for your commitment to our university and our students.

I believe you will find this publication not only informative, but

also enlightening.  It offers a brief synopsis of many of the programs and services we provide to our students and communities.  Again, thank you for your interest in and support of Southern Illinois University.  If we may be of service to you, please do not hesitate to call upon us.

Affordability and Accessiblilty

Affordability and accessibility are two enduring aspects that

distinguish SIUC from many other highly ranked universitites across the nation.  SIUC was the first public university in Illinois to establish a four-year plan for tuition to allow undergraduate students and their parents to plan for the cost on of an entire four-year college education.  SIUC is ranked 30th in the nation for economic diversity — enrolling undergraduates with family incomes less than $40,000 a year.  With the help of loans, grants, scholarships, student Named as a “Best Midwestern

Strength and Diversity

Sixth in the nation for awarding baccalaureate

At SIUC, a great deal of importance is placed on diversity among faculty, staff, and students to provide opportunities to learn and work in an environment that promotes the value of diversity and benefits every individual within the university community.  SIUC enrolls students throughout Illinois and the United States and from a large number of foreign countries to actively promote the intellectual and social benifits of cultural pluralism. The cultivation and continuance of multiculturalism encourages the participation of non-traditional groups, which expands student horizions and leads to a superior higher education.
