What is Individualized 2+2?
Individualized 2+2 is a program for students who plan to earn a bachelor’s degree at Southern but who will begin their college career at a community college. Students in this program will get personalized academic plans based on their declared majors. A plan includes a list of courses in both general education requirements and individual major requirements necessary to complete a bachelor’s degree at Southern, AND a list of equivalent courses available at your community college. This means you know in advance which course credits will transfer and which will help you meet requirements at Southern. Sometimes things change, so at the end of each semester, after you send an official transcript from your community college, Southern representatives examine the transcripts and send you written information about the progress you are making toward your Southern degree while you are at a community college.
When and how do I apply for 2+2?
You should apply for 2+2 as early in your community college career as possible. You may enter 2+2 at any point during your time at the community college, but the earlier you sign on, the more benefits you get from the program. Apply for 2+2 by completing the SIUC Application for Admission and Scholarships form, paying the $30 application fee, and completing a transcript release form (enclosed). Be sure to mark the, “I want to participate in 2+2” box on the application, and remember to note the first term you expect to begin attending Southern. For example, students beginning at a community college in Fall 2008 will typically transfer to Southern in the Fall 2010 semester.

When will I be admitted to Southern?

You are admitted to SIUC about one year in advance of your anticipated transfer date. If you are a transfer student with 26 or more transferable semester hours, you must have a 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) overall GPA for general admission to the University. Note that some majors require a higher GPA for admission to the program. If you are a transfer student with less than 26 transferable semester hours, you must have a 2.0 overall GPA and meet freshman admission requirements. Please send official high school transcripts and official copies of your ACT or SAT test scores.
