Southern Illinois University Carbondale
has an academic scholarship program that seeks to recognize and reward academically talented students. The Academic Scholarship Office has the primary responsibility for awarding scholarships to new undergraduate students who are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents. SIUC will notify admitted students who are selected to receive an academic scholarship. All of these scholarships are competitive and are offered on a funds-available basis. Qualified students are encouraged to apply for admission early and will be considered when the following requirements have been fulfilled: • • •
You have been officially admitted to SIUC. You have submitted official ACT or SAT test scores (New Freshmen). You have submitted official transcripts from every college attended (Community College Graduates).
Enrollment Status Scholarship recipients should enroll in 15 semester credits each fall and spring semester in order to be in a position to complete graduation requirements within a four-year period. Full-time attendance (12 semester credits or more) is required. If a scholarship recipient chooses not to enroll at SIUC in a fall or spring semester during any year of eligibility, he or she will forfeit the remainder of the scholarship award.
Renewal Status Students must maintain full-time enrollment and a grade point average of at least 3.0 (4.0=A) as calculated at the end of the spring semester in order to remain eligible for the scholarships awarded by the Academic Scholarship Office.
Multiple Awards The Diversity Scholarship and the Valedictorian/Salutatorian Award can be combined with the Presidential/Chancellor and the SIUC Academic Scholarship for Freshmen. However, the total amount of federal, state and institutional financial aid, including scholarships, cannot exceed the total SIUC cost of attendance budget determined by the Financial Aid Office. General Information University Honors Program
The University Honors Program at SIUC is not your high school honors program! The UHP courses are different than any you will take at SIUC - small, limited to UHP students and taught by our best faculty. The learning experience is much like that a of a private college. While the courses are rigorous, they are qualitatively rather than quantitatively different from nonhonors courses. For more information about University Honors, visit their website at http://honors.siuc.edu/.
Research Rookies
The Saluki Research Rookies Program (SRRP) at SIUC provides students the opportunity to participate in organized undergraduate research experiences. Each year the program selects 15-20 freshman and sophomore students to become Saluki Research Rookies. To be eligible for the program, students must have an interest in research and inquiry, be committed to participate in two semesters of SRRP activities, and have a strong sense of their intended major. Six $4,000 scholarships will be awarded to new freshmen applicants. The SRRP application will serve as the scholarship application. For more information about the program and how to apply, visit the Saluki Research Rookies website at http://srrp.siuc.edu/.
