Network ID Management System Claiming your Network ID is an important step on your path to becoming a Saluki. Southern’s Identity Management (IdM) System will allow you to change and reset passwords and recover your user account should it ever become locked. The following steps will help you claim your new Network ID. 1. Go to: https://netid.siu.edu. You will be presented with a login page for the Network ID Management System.

2. Scroll down to the section with the heading “If you do not have a Network ID, get one here…” and click the “Claim your Network ID” button in the blue box.

3. You will be presented with an Account Claim Process form.

4. Review the policies regarding the creation and use of computer accounts at SIU by clicking the ‘Policies’ link. Once you have reviewed the policies, check the box and click “Continue”.

8. The next section will allow you to enter alternate contact information into the IdM system. Providing this information will allow you to reset your Network ID password using an alternate email address or via text messaging. You may skip this step by placing a check in the box next to “I do not want the University to have alternate contact information“ and clicking the “Continue” button.

9. If you choose to not provide the University with alternate contact information, you will see the following warning screen. Click “Skip Alternate Contact” to continue, or click “Provide Alternate Contact” to go back to the previous screen.

10. The final part of the Account Claim Process is choosing a password. The password must conform to the Southern Illinois University Network ID password policy as stated on the page. Enter and confirm your password, and click “Continue”.

11. If your password is accepted, you will be presented with a confirmation page.

12. Once logged in, you will be presented with a menu page. In the future, this is where you will go to reset your Network ID password and/or the answers to your authentication (forgotten password) questions.

13. Finally, log out of the Network ID Management System by clicking the “Logout” button.

Sign up for Orientation Consider orientation your guidebook to the new universe you are about to enter. Your orientation experience at SIUC will consist of New Student Orientation (held prior to move in) and Saluki Startup, your extended orientation that will occur in the fall after you move in.

Just before classes begin, you will participate in Saluki Startup. Saluki Startup will consist of activities planned just for new students to help you learn more about what it takes to be a successful college student, to help you meet other students, and to help you meet the faculty, staff and community who are here to support you at SIUC.

At New Student Orientation, you’ll take care of some of the major things you need to do – like register for classes. First-Year Experience The college experience is more than just a change in where you attend school. It’s lifealtering, in the best sense of the word. Your first year at college, whether you are coming from hundreds of miles away or just the next town over, means changes in the way you live your daily life. That can be fun and exciting, but it can be intimidating and confusing, too. Saluki First-Year (SFY) is here to help you make a smooth transition into college generally and SIUC specifically so you can make

the most of the available advantages. As a first year student, you are automatically enrolled in SFY. Our office is located in Faner Hall, Room 3341. We’ll help keep you aware of what’s going on at SIUC, including upcoming events, important announcements, opportunities, deadlines and so on. Apply for Financial Aid Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Alert! Notice! Pay attention! Advisory! Do this early! The FAFSA form is online at fafsa.ed.gov beginning in January 2011, for Fall 2011. To receive full consideration for all forms of financial aid at Southern, you should complete and submit the FAFSA before March 1, 2011. SIUC’s federal code is 001758. Cost of Attendance and Contribution = Financial Need

The Financial Aid Office uses information from your FAFSA to develop a financial aid package, including a combination of grants, scholarships, loans and student employment. We do our best to provide a financial aid package that meets the needs of you and your family. Beginning in March 2011, the Financial Aid Office will begin notifying students, via their SIUC email account, about their financial aid award package. Immunization Compliance Form

Illinois law requires that all students born after Jan. 1, 1957: • Must show proof of immunity to tetanus, diphtheria, measles, mumps and rubella. All students: • Must have had a tetanus/diphtheria (TD) vaccine within the last 10 years. Students not in compliance will be unable to register for second semester classes until requirements are met. The immunization form and return envelope are in the back pocket of this folder. The form can also be found on the Web site. For more information, call 618/453-3311 or visit the Web site.

The fees you pay every semester include a Student Health Insurance Plan. If you already have another health insurance policy and don’t want to be included in the plan we offer, you may request a refund of that part of your fees. To do that, apply for the refund by the Friday of the second week of classes (in either the fall or the spring semesters) or by Friday of the first week of classes in the summer semester. Apply at the Student Health Center for the refund. Note: You will need to apply for the refund every semester. Send Your Final Transcripts After you graduate from high school – or, for transfer students, finish the semester at your other college – you must arrange to have your final, official transcript sent to SIUC. Welcome to University Housing Where you live is an important part of your college experience. At Southern, we have plenty of housing options available, from efficiency to luxury, from high-rise to lakeside. Dining Plans You have a choice of three different dining plans when you complete your Housing contract. Vegetarian and low-fat options are always available in the dining halls. If you have specific dietary needs, let us know what we need to do to accommodate you. Just “Ask the Dietitian” at www.housing.siu.edu or call 618/453-2301. SIUC Housing Policy All single students under the age of 21, not residing with their parents or legal guardians, with fewer than 26 credit hours earned after high school, are required to live in on-campus residence halls. Freshmen commuting from home must complete a Housing Policy Verification Form, available online.

Freshmen Freshmen have access to residence halls in four areas of campus – Brush Towers, Thompson Point, University Hall, and University Park. There are a variety of building styles and dining plans, with Internet access, cable TV and air conditioning included in your utilities. Ask about Living Learning Communities – your chance to live on the same floor or in the same hall as other students in your major area of study. It’s a great way to make friends and find study partners!

The 2-Year Edge – Lock in housing rates for your first two academic years on campus, and enjoy other benefits not available with a 1-Year Basic contract. The Edge is available until July 1, 2011 for new Fall 2011 students.

The 1-Year Basic – A traditional contract that covers the fall and spring semesters that make up an academic year. Available to new and returning students.

Students with Families

Wall & Grand Apartments, the newest on campus, are open to transfer students, sophomores and above, and graduate students. Freshmen who are 21 and older are also eligible. Visit the housing Web site for other floor plans.

Evergreen Terrace houses married students, domestic partners, students with children and single graduate students. Check out the Web site for other floor plans and virtual tours.
