SIWW SPOTLIGHT 2017 The Singapore International Water Week is pleased to host an exclusive event for water utility leaders and global water professionals. Gathering about 200 of the world’s leaders in water, the three-day programme will take a deep dive into four of the most pressing issues on the utility forefront – managing all water as one, improving network performance, guaranteeing water quality in every drop, and recycling and reusing wastewater.

Teeing off with a morning on the greens of the prestigious Sentosa Golf Club, the three-day programme will see strategic discussions and offer insights with case studies and practical applications.

DAY 1 – MON, 17 JULY 2017 Morning Singapore Water Association (SWA) Golf @ SIWW, Serapong Course, Sentosa Golf Club Morning/Afternoon Site Visits and Co-located Events Gain insights on Singapore’s water capabilities in water quality monitoring and network performance through technical visits to WaterHub and Woodleigh Complex. DAY 2 – TUE, 18 JULY 2017 Morning Registration and Networking Breakfast Opening Address by Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Singapore Session 1: Circular Water – Managing All Water as One Greater urbanisation exerts pressure on water demand and water security. How can water utility leaders and city planners relook the way water is managed to ensure greater water sustainability? This segment looks into breaking down silos within water management and taking on the entire water cycle - rain falling on surface, water catchment, water supply and wastewater management. Case studies and insights from Singapore, China and India demonstrate how to implement an approach to take on the entire water loop.

Networking Lunch Afternoon Session 2: Cutting Losses – Improving Network Performance In the face of growing water scarcity and ageing infrastructure, there is a constant need to improve the operations and management of the water distribution system especially in terms of reducing non-revenue water (NRW), to ensure that service standards are maintained efficiently. What are the strategies and approaches to reduce system losses and how can innovative solutions help in improving network performance? This segment invites insights from countries like Cambodia and the USA, on how operational efficiency in utilities can be improved while ensuring financial viability. DAY 3 – WED, 19 JULY 2017 Morning Networking Breakfast Session 3: Entirely Wholesome – Guaranteeing Quality in Every Drop Ensuring safe drinking water quality standards is a key priority among water agencies worldwide. Compromises in water quality impact public health and reduce customer confidence. What are the approaches to ensure good water quality from source to tap? How should risks in the water supply system be managed and what are some strategies to mitigate the impact of water quality crises?

This session explores the experiences and best practices from Singapore, the Netherlands and the USA in upholding water quality from catchment to consumers, and what utilities can do to reduce the impact to consumers and regain public confidence during times of crisis. Networking Lunch Afternoon Session 4: Never Lost – Recycling and Reusing Wastewater There is an increasing awareness among the international community on how wastewater can be a valuable resource. Today, reclaimed water is mainly used for non-potable applications in industries or irrigation. It has been proven reliable with water quality often exceeding many conventional sources and can be used to augment drinking water supply through direct or indirect potable reuse. Yet, potable reuse faces several adoption challenges. This session invites some of the leaders in water reuse from Africa, Australia, Singapore and the USA to share on their water reuse experiences in terms of direct potable reuse and indirect potable reuse, as well as strategies to gain public acceptance.

SWA GOLF @ SIWW Organised by the Singapore Water Association (SWA), enjoy the morning at Sentosa Golf Club together with members from the Singapore water industry. Ranked among the Top 100 Greatest Golf Clubs worldwide, the Sentosa Golf Club is one of Singapore’s most prestigious private clubs and is well-known for hosting the Singapore Open. SITE VISITS Site Visit 1: Safeguarding Water Quality Venue: WaterHub At the Water Quality Laboratories, find out more about PUB’s comprehensive water sampling and monitoring programme, from source to tap, to ensure that Singapore’s water supply is safe for consumption. Visitors will visit the Singapore Water Academy, PUB’s learning institute which offers courses for staff, industry and international water professionals. Visitors will also learn about Singapore’s roadmap ahead, including the redevelopment of Waterhub into a centre of excellence for innovation, learning and networking. Site Visit 2: Improving Network Performance Venue: Woodleigh Complex Learn how PUB operates Singapore’s water supply network efficiently and reliably, and how system leaks are detected in real time via various tools and smart water technologies. In addition, learn about how PUB interacts with customers through its 24-hour one-stop customer contact centre and service recovery processes.
