A MEETING OF WATER LEADERS Join global water professionals as they converge at Singapore International Water Week 2012 Sands Expo & Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands | 1 – 5 July In the face of global urbanisation and climate challenges, the theme for Singapore International Water Week 2012 is ‘Water Solutions for Liveable and Sustainable Cities’. It reinforces the pressing need to integrate sustainable water management strategies into the urban planning process. Comprising the Water Leaders Summit, Water Convention, Water Expo and Business Forums, it culminates in the presentation of the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize, a prestigious international award to honour outstanding contributions in solving water issues. The 5th Singapore International Water Week is held in conjunction with the 3rd World Cities Summit and the inaugural CleanEnviro Summit Singapore. Delegates, trade visitors and exhibitors will have more opportunities to promote practical and sustainable water solutions and tap into a vast network of public and private sector players in urban solutions.

TechXchange Workshop 2012 returns with increased participation from the investment community and a full-day programme on 1 July. Invited attendees from the investment community can expect to network and exchange ideas in water and wastewater related technologies. Highlights of the workshop also include business pitches from innovators, targeted business matchmaking, panel discussions and prototype displays at the Water Expo.

Governance and Finance Forum: Infrastructure financing in an uncertain economic environment (3 July)

Amidst the global economic uncertainties in the years to come, many governments are implementing spending cuts and austerity measures. As public funding dries up, opportunities to explore innovative financing solutions involving private capital are aplenty. What roles do private water funds play in this economic crisis and what are the hidden-risks involved? How do SMEs seek opportunities through strategic collaborations and grow through strengthening corporate governance?

Industrial Water Solutions Forum: Sustainable water solutions for the industrial sector (3 July)

The global industrial water sector ranks second in water consumption; consuming an estimated 25% of the global water demand. Against the backdrop of higher water scarcity and more stringent environmental regulation worldwide, global industries are conducting vigorous reviews on their water footprint and how it impacts their operations. With energy and water intrinsically linked, industries are searching for innovative solutions to improve water sustainability across the value chain. The inaugural Industrial Water Solutions Forum examines challenges

faced by industrial sectors, such as energy and manufacturing, in water management and how innovative solutions could address such challenges. Leaders from industrial water users can network and exchange knowledge. Participants can expect an intensive exchange on the risks and challenges for large industrial water users and discuss opportunities for current water solution providers in industrial water management. About Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize The Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize recognises outstanding contributions towards solving global water problems by either applying revolutionary technologies or the implementation of innovative policies and programmes that benefit humanity. This prestigious international award is named after Singapore’s former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, who championed the development of Singapore’s water sustainability efforts.

The Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2012 call for nomination closed on 31 October 2011, attracting 61 nominations from 25 countries. Participants can look forward to inspiring insights from 2012 laureates of the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize Award and the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize in a combined lecture session on 2 July 2012.
