LEE KUAN YE W WATER PRIZE 2014 L AU RE ATE ORANGE COUNTY WATER DISTRICT

A SHINING EXEMPLAR OF SUCCESSFUL INNOVATION AND WATER REUSE Selected from 45 nominations across 24 countries, the Orange County Water District (OCWD) in California, USA, was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2014 for its pioneering work in groundwater management and water reclamation using advanced water reuse technologies, as well as its achievements in public policy and community outreach. Besides being a technology leader, OCWD has also led the way in establishing independent scientific review protocol for water reuse programmes and driving policies which has advanced groundwater management. OCWD’s public outreach and engagement programmes are well recognised on a national level, bagging awards as a testament to the exemplary work in bringing about public acceptance of potable water reuse. OCWD’s successful implementation model has been replicated in countries such as Australia, Singapore and in the states of Texas and Colorado in the United States to achieve water sustainability through water reuse, benefitting millions in the process. Delegates can also expect an evening of networking with global water experts at the Lee Kuan Yew Prize Award Ceremony and Banquet held on the evening of 2 June 2014.

Tuesday, 3 June 2014 Water Leaders at the Breakfast Table This session is designed as a platform primarily for delegates to interact and network with speakers through discussions on key water issues over breakfast. Table hosts will share their experiences pertaining to the topics of the Water Leaders Summit, and subsequently engage in meaningful discussions. Water Leaders Dialogues Delegates will have a focused discussion at one of the two dialogue sessions.

A. “Breaking Boundaries: Developing a Better Water Utility” This session will expand on discussions from the SIWW Water Utilities Leaders Forum (SWULF) held in September 2013 to include lateral discussions – involving other water stakeholders like governments, international organisations and companies – on SWULF’s 4 key discussion outcomes: good governance and leadership, financial sustainability, community engagement and driving innovation. B. “Future-Proofing our Cities” This session will cover: climate change adaptation, delta management in cities; exploring opportunities amidst challenges in water-energy-waste stewardship; the role of the private sector. Water Leaders Roundtable “Water for All: Solutions for a Better Future” A panel discussion inviting water leaders to discuss issues relating to ensuring water security and costcompetitiveness, leveraging water as a social, environmental and economic asset.
