Lace doesn’t have to be complicated to shine, as demonstrated by Faith Hale’s gull-wing lace cowl. Worked in the round, a neutral shade of mohair yarn with a visible halo allows the lace to open up beautifully, giving you a go-with-everything, multi-season piece.
KNITTED MEASUREMENTS Circumference 28"/71cm Length 11½"/29cm
MATERIALS • Original Yarn 2 1¾oz/50g balls (each approx 98yd/90m) of Bergère de France Mohair (mohair/ polyamide/wool) in #243.22 Souffle • Substitute Yarn 2 hanks (each approx 145yd/130m) of Halcyon Yarn Victorian Brushed Mohair (mohair/wool/nylon) in #1060 • One size 9 (5.5mm) circular needle, 24"/60cm long, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE • Stitch marker
GAUGE 14 sts and 25 rnds to 4"/10cm over lace pat using size 9 (5.5mm) needle. TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE. LACE PATTERN (multiple of 7 sts) Rnd 1 *K1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1; rep from * around. Rnd 2 Knit. Rnd 3 *K2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk; rep from * around. Rnd 4 Knit. Rep rnds 1–4 for lace pat.
COWL Cast on 98 sts. Join, taking care not to twist sts, and pm for beg of rnd. Work in lace pat for 11½"/29cm, end with a row 4. Bind off loosely.
FINISHING Weave in ends. Block to measurements.•
