AFTER
SS18 COLLECTION by SIZ Organic, sustainable and ethical fashion
AFTER is our first sustainable and ecologic collection and it’s an ethical one too. The products are PETA approved, fabrics are all of nature fibers and almost 100% are organic, with GOTS certificate. The colors are sandy and those of the nature that rises.
CONTEXT Climate change is real. We've been talking about global warming for years and although some measures have been taken, it’s not enough. Our daily actions can bring dramatic changes that are already occurring throughout the World. One of the causes for this reality is the well-known greenhouse effect. Even natural gas turned out a wrong alternative, which will destroy our planet. Intensive deforestation limits exponentially the absorption of carbon dioxide and oxygen release; and the creation of cattle is as harmful by the gases released as by the excessive agricultural production. What will our future be like? Scientists predict that several cataclysms will happen at the same time. The heat waves are a consequence that we can already identify and are the cause of many health problems. Due to hot
temperatures, forest fires will be greater and uncontrollable. There’ll be severe drought, large floods, and coastal displacement; factors that will destroy cities and agriculture fields. Consequently, there’ll be food shortages and poverty. Diseases will propagate more easily, homes shall be destroyed, food security will reduce and there’ll be more lives at risk. We’ll have a gigantic migration and the competition for resources will increase to a global conflict. Biodiversity will be reduced, and the ecosystem will collapse. We speak of the future, but let’s not delude ourselves, these consequences are already perceptible and the most catastrophic aren’t centuries away. These words expose briefly the state of our environment, however, each of these topics can be intensively explored.

AFTER focuses on a world after the changes that our planet is and will suffer. Imagine a future, post Anthropocene, but not too distant and not very fictional. The changes we have stubbornly ignored have already happened; they’re real and we didn’t control them. The world collapsed, and the prediction came true. We’re after a few years of recovery, when the earth is but deserts of sandy land and tepid oceans where once there were rich cities. The human species has been able to resist, but there isn’t much more life remaining on our planet of extremes. What will it be like to live there? If we knew that one day the planet would really resent our ill-treatment, would we change our behavior? We hope to draw attention to the problem of climate change and all its consequences and its causes. Change of mindset and attitude is priority, and keywords. Let’s work for a sane world, which will persist with its beauty for many millennia.

SS18 collection was produced on SIZ's atelier, made with the utmost dedication. The process begins with tests on old fabrics. The first ideas are made into patterns that give life to new tests. For the best comfort and usability, the patterns are rectified to be cut into the final fabric. This way, after all the testing and improvements, we have the conviction that it’s an unique and perfect work, done with the maximum detail until everything is as expected. The embroideries and finishes come in the end. There’s only one piece of each, no mass-production here, so imagine the love that is put in every single item.
