The Concept This collection aims to bring some awareness about the melting of the Arctic Glaciers, as a consequence of Climate Changes. Its aesthetic mix the ski and the serenity of the ice areas with the strong attitude of a cowboy.

The Context The fact that the earth is already warming is no longer a new and it is very evident. The biggest blame for Global Warming lies, of course, on the less conscious human behaviours. Such as the use of fossil fuels which results in the greenhouse gases growing, that prevents the planet from cooling down as it is supposed to. One of the most alarming consequences of this warming is undoubtedly the thawing of the glaciers, with effects that can be catastrophic. When the temperature rises and the ice melts, the ocean warms and increases in volume, which causes the inevitable rise of the sea-level eventually leading to the sinking of land, erosion of coasts and contamination of drinking water.

In addition, greenhouse gases are released when organic matter that has been frozen under the ground for several centuries thaws and rots. It is also important to remember that glaciers, icebergs and the sea ice that accumulates on the ocean are extremely clear surfaces and therefore with high albedo. It means that 80% of sunlight is reflected back into space, therefore preventing the planet from warming. While without these icy areas, there is only the immense darkness of the liquid ocean, which on the contrary absorbs 90% of solar radiation. With the absence of these surfaces over the ocean, polar bears cannot catch enough seals to survive the winter. Those who survive will be less likely to raise healthy offspring, thus reducing the polar bear population over generations. Others migrate in the opposite direction to their natural route, because when the ice breaks it is dragged south by the current. No matter how hard it is for us to deal with these overwhelming problems, we cannot pretend that these phenomena will not cause imminent harm, as experts claim, after several studies, that all these outcomes are happening much sooner than expected, and warn us for the possibility that several regions will see their glaciers completely disappear by 2100.

In this collection we used not only organic fabrics but also fabric off-cuts and deadstock. These last two are so or even more sustainable ways to work than the organic fabrics. Since we’re collecting the fabric that would end in the trash and landfills, we’re doing our collection with minimum waste, near to zero. Also, we are not promoting the production of more material and we are using fabrics that were already produced so its production’s resources served two different purposes and were well used. Our organic fabrics are still a great deal! The organic cotton is super comfortable, skin-friendly and less harmful for the planet. And those are just some of the reasons why we love it!

The Fabrics

We only used wooden buttons and our metal zippers are also leftovers of other main productions, both from Portuguese factories. If you’d like to know more about our fabrics and production just check our website, where you can find several articles about it, or even in our Instagram stories highlights.

About us Hi there! We are Raquel and Sofia, twin sisters bonded by many things, including the passion for Fashion Design. We grew up together, and together we developed all kind of interests and skills, what lead us to the same university course. So, once more, we stayed together, and studied what we loved the most. Now, we remain together to create our own brand! We are based in the beautiful country of Portugal, and you can find us in our studio in Sesimbra, near the beach and the mountains. There we do all the thinking, the research, brainstorming and design of our collections. There are a lot of fabric swatches around us as well as books and cactus! The patterns are made by us and we test each one of them in old fabrics until they are perfect at our eyes. Then we cut them in the real fabric and sew it with love. And sometimes we do the printings or embroidery work. In the end we do all the work of shooting the lookbook, campaign and product photos. We have a lot of fun doing it, as well as the marketing and promotion. When we have to contract someone to help us in the patterning or sewing processes we choose local workers. We aim to change mentalities through our clothes, and hopefully make our planet an healthy place to live. Always caring about sustainability and ethic.
