Campus development The Tree House

Huntington Avenue

This laser-cut site model is made by a group of four students. The area in the middle was replaceable in order to experiment with different landscape elements. This project was interesting because both the public aspects of the street and the private aspects of the campus had to be taken into account.

Detailed Plan Roof Plan

+ The air handling units have filters that slide out and need which means that they must be positioned so that nothing blocks the replacement of these filters on the roof.

4th Floor

+ By positioning the columns in corners the walls seem as seamless as possible. Long horizontal windows were used to see what is being prepared int he cooking classes.

3rd Floor

+ Bathrooms have been designed to the point of the location of the trash bin and the toilet paper holder. Wet walls and location of other vertical elements have also been taken into consideration .

2nd Floor

+ The seats of the auditorium are modular. All seats on one row are placed on a common pipe. Exterior walls are also thicker because they require more insulation.

V 9

Ground Floor

+ The double doors in the entrance are located in the curtain wall. This glass facade is supported by a columns that appear about every third mullion.

Basement

+ The foundation is shown as a dashed line that expands with every column because columns need a larger foundation to be able to support the weight of the whole building.

General Plans

Overall Impression

+ These plans give a general overview that opens up for a discussion about what the general layout of the building looks like.

Structural Plans Column Grid

+ The direction and layout of the beams have been carefully considered in relation to the columns. Openings between floors also affect the layout and arrangement of structure.

V 12

Building Entrance

+ An entrance that is set back from the street makes for a wider sidewalk which results in a more pleasant sidewalk experience as well as a way to draw people in.

View of Montgomry St.

+ This double height curtain wall brings in light to the restaurant seating area.

V 13

Dartmouth St. View

+ This view shows the building together with the abutting soup kitchen and elementary school.

Union Park View

+ Closest to the camera on the second floor is the library and on the other side the auditorium is located.
