The spring 2021 issue of Abbey Banner celebrates the vision of our late confrere Father Virgil Michel (1890—1938), outlining his dreams and passion for liturgical renewal. Dr. Martin F. Connell highlights how Father Virgil’s vision helped form the abbey and university church (now sixty years old), beginning with his theology and spirituality of baptism. Brother Aaron Raverty outlines the history of Liturgical Press, publishing apostolate of Saint John’s Abbey, that Father Virgil established and that continues to honor his vision. Abbot John Klassen opens the issue with a reflection on Easter morning and the resurrection. Ms. Margaret Nuzzolese Conway reviews Pope Francis’ encyclical Fratelli Tutti. We also learn about the Benedictine Volunteers Corps, Benedictine oblates, the medal of Saint Benedict, and an aspiring Benedictine saint.
