Things are looking up! Elective Surgery Discussions with the private hospital groups and the Health Department have resulted in a recommendation that surgery could safely re-commence. This went to the Health Department senior officials and Ministers for approval. We are expecting an update from the Department of health today. Some private hospital groups have speculated that this will be effective next week but this is unconfirmed as yet. We will be sure to keep you posted as soon as we have official word. The likely scenario will see Berwick being able to recommence 50% of usual capacity after the 14th February.

Berwick - 4 East – Reopening Berwick is planning to reopen 4 East on Monday 7th February to increase our capacity to admit and prepare for the elective surgery restart. With the support of the 4 East team, the 3 East team have carried the load of the surgical patients over the last couple of weeks but it is now time to prepare to increase capacity and ready teams for increased activity. Thanks to the 4 East teams for being so patient and understanding during the last few weeks. It is always difficult moving away from your home unit where everything is different. The 3 East caregivers have warmly welcomed the 4 East caregivers and the level of collaboration between the teams has been impressive but as Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz – “There is no place like home”.

Frankston – Wexford Unit - Reopening Frankston is planning to reopen the Wexford Unit next week. It is anticipated that admissions will boost the need to open up this unit as elective surgery recommences and as we plan to commence Palliative Care services in February at Frankston.
