Mayor Kenney On Stage Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney ’76 had a cameo role in the Cape and Sword Drama Society’s spring production of “Curtains.” His performance was featured on NBC10, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Magazine.

Cape and Sword at City Hall The Cape and Sword Drama Society, under the direction of Tony Braithwaite ’89, was featured on BillyPenn.com for its performance at City Hall as part of the city’s “Culture in the Courtyard” initiative.

Voss & Students Teach Cristo Rey Philly to Swim The partnership between the Prep and Cristo Rey to teach valuable swimming/water safety skills to Cristo Rey seniors was featured on CBS3. Prep swim coach Kelley Voss was interviewed and several members of the swim team were included in the piece.

Bradley Named JSA Statesperson of the Year Steven Bradley ‘16, President of the Prep’s chapter of Junior State of America, was featured in The Philadelphia Tribune after being named JSA’s regional Statesperson of the Year.

Fashion Show Philly Style Magazine featured photos from the annual Mothers’ Club Fashion Show.

Nuns on the Bus The Nuns on the Bus Rally at St. Joe’s Prep was featured on 6ABC’s “Action News” and CatholicPhilly.com.

Dr. Reed Wins Alumnus of the Year Award Saint Joseph’s University President Dr. Mark Reed ’92 was named the 2016 Alumnus of the Year. That award was profiled on the SJU website www.sju.edu.


Students Profiled

Three Prep students were profiled for their work in Community Service:

• William “Bubba” Burrough ’19 and his Boys Pajama Drive

were featured on CBS3, NBC10 and South Jersey Magazine.

• Kevin Ketchell ’17, one of the student organizers of the

Prep’s Operation Santa Claus, was featured in South Jersey Magazine.

• Isaiah Ritchie ‘17 was featured in the University City Review

for earning a scholarship to study in France this summer.

Employment Announcements • Besty Courtney, new Chief Development Officer,

was featured in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

• New trustees Paul Jaskot ’86 and Brendan Johnson ’88

were featured in the “On the Boards” section of

The Philadelphia Inquirer.

• The retirement of soccer coach Jim Murray ’59 was featured

on Philly.com and BillyPenn.com.

• New Assistant Dean of Students/Assistant Basketball Coach

Randy Monroe was featured in the Philadelphia Tribune.

• The Philadelphia Business Journal featured the following news about

the Prep’s Board of Trustees: Chair Jim Mergiotti ’71, Vice Chair Shawn

Bort and new trustees Michael Gayda ’72, Stephen Gleason ’83 and

Rev. Thomas Pesci, SJ ’67.

Sports Infante and Swift on TCN’s “Breakfast on Broad” Football coach Gabe Infante and running back D’Andre Swift ’17 were featured on The Comcast Network’s “Breakfast on Broad.”


Sports Swift ’17 Chooses University of Georgia Several publications (Philly.com/Philadelphia Inquirer, Comcast SportsNet, CBSPhilly.com, USA Today, ESPN.com) covered the announcement of Prep running back D’Andre Swift ’17 of his college choice, the University of Georgia. Swift used a video produced by Bleacher Report to make his announcement.

Prep Football in California The Football team’s season-opening victory over Oaks Christian was covered by 6ABC and NBC10. The game was played in Mission Viejo, Calif., as part of Honor Bowl 2016.

Vasturia ’13 and ND in Philly Steve Vasturia ’13, a co-captain of the University of Notre Dame basketball team, was featured on CBS3 when the Irish played in Philadelphia as part of the NCAA Tournament.

Rugby Alumni Highlighted Several alumni of the Prep Rugby program participated in the Collegiate Rugby Championship in Chester and were included in an article on Newsworks.com.

Street Soccer USA The Prep was one of the sponsors of Street Smart USA Art Museum Cup that was held at Eakins Oval on May 28-29 and hosted the event’s Welcome Dinner at the Prep. The 4v4 tournament, for formerly homeless youth, was covered by NBC10 and Xfinity was the main presenting sponsor.
