Hi Spartans! My name is Sharanya Kumar, and I am so excited to be running for the position of Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities this year!

I am a Political Science Major with a minor in Economics and Computer Science. By being a part of three different colleges, I can understand the academic needs of my fellow Spartans. Not only is my educational journey wide-reaching, so was my upbringing. Being raised in the Bay Area exposed me to many socio-cultural and economic differences. Through these experiences, I understand the diversity of our student body and am ready to be your voice.

I’ve always had a passion for clear communication and student advocacy. Throughout my time at SJSU, I’ve been an executive of Her Campus and an advocate for women’s rights in our community. Also as a new orientation leader, I’ve worked hard to create an inclusive environment for all of our incoming Spartans.

If elected, I will do my best to give students a voice in all matters concerning our rights. As we hopefully transition back to in-person learning, I want to represent the concerns and questions we have as a post-pandemic student body.

I intend to help build our campus back up from the effects of the pandemic, and I hope to protect our rights as students and promote equality.
