Zobeida Delgadillo for A.S. President

Hello everyone! My name is Zobeida Delgadillo. I’m a third year Political Science major with a minor in Public Relations. This year I will be running for your Associated Student’s (A.S.) President! I’ve been involved with Associated Students since my freshman year where I began as a Human Resources receptionist. With that experience, I’ve mastered a significant understanding for the structure of A.S., the resources, and the departments they offer to students. I currently serve as your Associated Students Director of Legislative Affairs. With this position I am the chair of Lobby Corps and I serve as a Senator on the San Jose State Academic Senate. My experience has allowed me to expand my leadership through the comprehension of higher education and various aspects in public policy. Through my position, I am the current voting member on CSSA representing San Jose State. Where I’m involved in advocating for more state funding for the CSU system, financial aid reform and promoting student participation in the governance of the CSU system. For the past year, I’ve worked to empower the voices of students through planning events such as Democracy Week (a voter education and registration event) and I Stand With Immigrants Day of Action which focused on promoting students to be civically engaged on campus. I’ve served as a student advocate for higher education throughout my years at SJSU as an active participant in student government and leadership opportunities. I’ve been an Orientation leader through the New Student and Family Programs.

10

Vishnu Saravanakumar for A.S. President

Hello Spartans! My name is Srivishnu Saravanakumar and I am proud to announce my candidacy as your Associated Students President. I currently serve as a Residential Advisor in housing and also as the president of the Residence Life Association, so I understand what it means to represent a large body. For the past two years I’ve been working with SJSU faculty and students to address important issues on this campus such as improving diversity, equity and unity. As RLA president, in collaboration with the current AS President, I was able to help residents and RAs switch to a meal plan that favored the students’ needs over corporation needs in 2019. In the present, the SU dining options have increased hours of operation, allowing students more flexibility for dining, and the Dining Commons is implementing more options that better align with student needs. If elected I will continue to make quality of life changes to SJSU, work towards improving campus climate and carry on my responsibility of being a student advocate. As President, I’ll work tirelessly to make sure that the entire student body’s best interests are represented. As someone that has seen firsthand the work required to make change and has also recognized the work and commitment that AS president entails, I am confident in tackling this position and excited to represent my fellow students: Residents, Commuters, International, Graduate, Sports, Greek. At the end of the day we are all students of San Jose State University.

As a student who is deeply involved in student organizations and more, it is in my own best interest to help those that create a meaningful community that we call SJSU. It will be my duty and responsibility to partner and communicate with all student organizations to create a better campus representation for all students. I am currently a part of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity where I have served as the Social Events Chairman, House Manager and the current Recruitment Chairman. I also serve as the Interfraternity Council Executive Vice President. This past semester, I have done the SJSU Pebble Beach SEMT program which allowed me to grow my leadership and management skills exponentially. In addition to these positions of leadership, I have done the SJSU Career and Leadership Career Program as well as being given the honor of Eagle Scouts with the Boy Scouts of America. I believe my experience in leadership can assist with my goal of creating a better community within all SJSU students through Associated Students. With your help, I can better our community and help every student shine within their prospective areas.

Wesley Sullivan for A.S. Vice President

Hello! My name is Wesley Sullivan and I am a second year business major. I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to run for A.S. Vice President at SJSU and hopefully be able to represent my fellow students. I left high school with the hopes of a new start to reinvent myself, I was fortunate enough to be welcomed with open arms at SJSU. I have met so many amazing people, grown into more of the person I wish to be and I am delighted to call SJSU my home. I am currently a Resident Advisor(RA) in CV2, active in Delta Sigma Phi, president of Spikeball SJSU, and Treasurer of RLA. As an RA I have been able to develop my leadership skills while also connecting with many students. Through my involvement I have learned a lot about what students struggle with on campus and I would love to bring my experiences to help influence important decisions. RLA is a student organization of RAs who want to advocate for their fellow RAs to their supervisors in order to shape housing decisions. My experiences in RLA have greatly influenced my ability to identify needs and bring forth change as a representative in my community.

Jayanth Yalamanchi for A.S. Controller

Hey, I’m Jayanth Yalamanchi, the next AS Controller and aspiring analyst hoping to work for a mutual fund picking the securities that go into the funds. My passion for finance, investments, and economics makes me the best candidate for this role. From a young age, I’ve role modeled family members with successful careers in the finance and wealth distribution sector. They have given me great insight into personal investing, such as how to properly allocate funds. I also know how to rebalance portfolios in times of economic distress, like the one we are currently facing due to the spread of COVID-19. By applying what I know to real-world scenarios on campus, I can protect the SJSU community from economic distress and guide us through a challenging year ahead. My passion for helping others has led me here to San Jose, and in times like these, we needto maintain control and accountability over funds and campus activities so all SJSU students get to enjoy the ultimate Spartan experience. Together… we can and will make a difference. And with me as your next AS Controller for the 20/21 academic year, we can and will make ourselves immune to the challenges ahead. I look forward to having your vote on Monday, April 13th.

As VP I would strive to minimize the stress students face while fostering a community centered around growth and positivity. As a representative I would push my community’s needs to the forefront and make their experiences a priority in shaping policies on campus.

Nicholas Kern

Flor Sario

for A.S. Controller

for A.S. Controller

Hello there!

Hi Spartans!

In these uncertain times, we need an AS Controller who can get things done. Whoever’s elected should be a strong and charismatic leader; a visionary who can conceptualize their goal and institute a strategic plan to achieve success. They have to know the school’s bureaucracy like the back of their hand, to embody the conduit between the university and the student populace. Most of all, they should be a steward who safeguards the student body’s financial wellbeing with all of their mind, body, and soul.

My name is Flor Sario and I am honored to announce my candidacy to serve as your Controller for the 2020-2021 academic year. I’m currently a 4th year student pursuing a degree in Business Management Information Systems with a minor in Chicana/ Chicano Studies.

Now, I’m not saying that I meet any of these criteria, but what I can tell you in no uncertain terms is that I make very, very good chocolate chip cookies. These aren’t just any run-ofthe-mill, salt-of-the-earth, spaghetti-and-meatball, mom-and-pop, regular-joe-schmoe kind of cookies. When I bake these bad boys, you can be sure that they will be of the utmost quality and excellence, to the point that some would describe as beyond our dimension of comprehension. For legal reasons, I’m not allowed to distribute these cookies during my campaign, but if you’re curious as to how this skill set carries over to functioning as the AS controller, vote for me!

I was born in Oaxaca, Mexico and was brought to the United States when I was two years old. I am a proud first-generation college student and have been relentless in my pursuit of higher education while being an undocumented woman of color. This year, I’ve had the privilege to serve as your Director of Business Affairs. This position gave me a platform and resources to work on projects that will impact the greater San José State (SJSU) community. A project I am especially proud of bringing to fruition is providing free feminine care products in all Student Union bathrooms. By the end of this semester, students will have access to free pads and tampons. Additionally, I led the initiative to restructure the Associated Students Scholarship funds, which totals to $70,000.00 worth of scholarships. I proposed and implemented lowering the GPA requirement from a 3.0 to a 2.5 to increase the applicant pool. SJSU has impacted my life in more than one way and my drive is to give back. I hope to count on your vote and be elected Controller for the upcoming year so that I can continue to enhance your student experience at SJSU. Spartan Up!

Anoop Kaur

for A.S. Director of Academic Affairs

Raj Shah

for A.S. Director of Business Affairs

What’s good Spartans! My name is Anoop Kaur (pronouns: she/her/hers) and I am honored to announce my candidacy to represent you as your Associated Students Director of Academic Affairs.

My name is Raj Shah. I am a sophomore at San Jose State University majoring in electrical engineering. I am currently the hall rep for the Residence Housing Association of SJSU and the Project Officer at the IDEAS Lab.

Currently serving as your Director of Academic Affairs, it has been my privilege to set up the new Academic Affairs Committee within Associated Students. I have come to understand the power of advocacy and inclusively voicing the concerns of all students. When I started off in A.S. as a Student-at-Large my Frosh year, I gained an understanding of what it meant to serve on a committee. This year, chairing my own committee I have learned how to make collective goals come to light through events, fostering relationships, and outreach. Together, the Academic Affairs committee has been working towards inclusively representing the needs of all students in order to strengthen the academic experience here at SJSU.

I am very passionate about getting involved in various student led organizations and advocacy driven organizations such as student government. I believe they can assist accomplish my goal of bringing out a positive change in the community we live in. In my time here, as an international student, I have observed a lot of challenges that the university faces in terms of diversity, inclusion and community building. But I believe that with collaborative efforts, together we can build a strong community with healthier and safer environment.

Additionally, serving as a Student Senator I helped provide input with new General Education changes and other key curriculum areas. I hope to continue to seek student input and provide key feedback when it comes to policies that affect our education. Thank you for allowing me to serve one term, if elected again I will continue to prioritize the concerns of students and advocate for your educational needs. I encourage everyone to vote in the 2020-2021 elections in order to make your voice heard. Together let’s continue to advocate to build a better, safer, and more inclusive community to unite all Spartans!

18

As a sportsman and in my journey of becoming a Black-belt recipient of Tae-Fudo martial arts I have learnt a lot about significance of discipline, dedication and perseverance. Hence, I want to take this opportunity to display my leadership skills and serve the community by providing them with an experience that will go above and beyond what they expect. I just want to have a voice, for myself and others like myself. So, let us all take a pledge of voting and choosing the right candidate who has the vision to create change for the betterment of the university.

Shashwath Koppisetty

for A.S. Director of Co-Curricular Affairs

SPARTAN NATION! I’m Shashwath Koppisetty, and I’m running for Director of Co-Curricular Affairs. As a fourth year student here at SJSU, I can confidently say one of the biggest problems on Campus is our lack of unity and spirit. This stems from our university being a huge commuter school, which means many of our students feel disconnected from the Campus Culture. As it stands there are only a handful of events that bring together the entire Student Body such as Fire on the Fountain. If elected, my main goal will be adding more of these large scale events where our community can organize and thrive together. As Vice President of Beta Theta Pi, I have gained invaluable experience in event planning, and I can assure you, I will be able to transfer those skills into building the best events A.S. has ever thrown. If you want to see a Blizzard cover Tower Lawn or see 7th Street Plaza be converted into a Water Park, your choice is clear. Let’s band together to strengthen our spirit and invent a grander Campus Experience. Think Big, Spartan Up!

20

Leland Pama

for A.S. Director of Co-Curricular Affairs

Hey Spartans, my name is Leland Pama and I am a transfer student from De Anza College, majoring in Communications. I love the diverse and inclusive culture of SJSU, being here has been an amazing experience. SJSU is an underrated school and I want to give back to it what it has given me. In High School, I organized restaurant fundraisers and executed an event that showcased all 103 clubs on campus. I think it’s important that clubs and organizations on campus can showcase themselves and have a voice on campus. Food and Event Planning has always been my passion. Last event that I helped implement was the Fall Mixer at De Anza. I have experience in organizing events both big and small. Putting on events that many people enjoyed has helped me understand how to bring people together and boost school spirit. I believe 7 years of experience in student government will help me succeed. As Director of Co-Curricular Affairs, I’d like to do things that better connect students of SJSU with the diverse community around us. I’d like to plan an event where local restaurants can come in and showcase their food, allowing our students to enjoy the many ethnic foods from around the world that they can get locally. I’d also like to promote more events with the local community and government. This will help open doors for students both during and after their time here in SJSU.

I want to utilize the passion I have for this subject and transfer it to the students of San Jose State University. In pursuit of my goal of contributing to our campus, I am currently serving the University’s Housing Community as a Peer Advisor. Also as a member of one of the largest greek organizations on campus: Delta Sigma Phi; I have been granted multiple opportunities to present my leadership capabilities as Chairmen of Alumni and Parent Relations and as New Member Educator. Using skills obtained in these positions I’m prepared to represent my community as an advocate of diversity! Having the convenience of living in such a diverse community here in San Jose. I’m campaigning for this position because I believe in the importance of being able to instill change through policy, effective communication, and dialogue. Ever since I started here at San Jose State I recognized the importance of the student voice and how we can as a collective empower change. I strive to collaborate with other student organizations, departments, programs and resources to be able to coordinate events that raise awareness to student’s issues and concerns. As a Student Leadership Ambassador with the Student Involvement department, I was able to learn more about the importance of cultivating a space on campus where students can come together and share what they are passionate about. I understood what it meant to be a leader through my different engagements with students of different backgrounds, and the importance of leadership development. My experiences have motivated me to become someone who wants to create a space on campus for diversity and inclusion by integrating social justice-based advocacy through the facilitation of a variety of events and programs.
