KEEPING COMPANY WITH GOD | JUNE 11 6:30PM POTLUCK DINNER WITH ANNETTE FERGUSSON The Spirituality of Waiting Everyone, even those who have never come before, is invited. Annette will look at what it means to wait on God in trust and expectancy within a culture which seeks instant gratification. HELPING POINT TRIP 2018 This summer St. John’s plans to send a team of four to six people to Helping Point in India. The primary purpose of the trip is to continue developing our relationship with our brothers and sisters in India. We also hope to grow in our knowledge and understanding of God’s work among all nations. If you would like an application to join the team please send an email to team@sjvan.org. We are looking for a few people to help set up tables & chairs, prepare food, as well as donate a few barbeques for the event. June 3: Dr. David Falk Hagar’s Egyptian Understanding of Marriage in Genesis 16 June 10: Barbara Moreira Narratives we Live by WOMEN’S RETREAT NIGHT On Thursday, June 7 at 5:30 pm, we will gather together for an evening retreat with a meal, a short teaching, and time to reflect and pray. Please register online. Cost is $15. CELEBRATING DAVID & DAN On Sunday, September 9 we will celebrate David Short’s 25th, and Dan Gifford’s 20th anniversary at the 10:00 am service. As part of the celebration we invite you to write notes of congratulations and musings that we will deliver to them on the day. Please put your cards in a sealed envelope and either send it to the church office by mail, or drop it off during Sunday services in June. Your envelope should indicate whether it is for Dan or David and marked “anniversary celebration”. Photos are welcomed. The address for the church office can be found on the back page.


IN OUR COMMUNITY CONDOLENCE On April 21, Brendan Hipp (19 years old), grandson of Donna and Peter Hipp, died in a tragic ATV accident on his parents property in Kelowna. David was a first year student at UBCO living with his family who moved from Vancouver to Kelowna one year ago. Please remember the Hipp family in your prayers, including grandparents Donna and Peter; parents David and Kinga; and sister Paige. The memorial service for Brendan will be held on June 12, 3:00 pm at St John’s (5350 Baillie St.) with a reception to follow in the hall.

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT On May 17, Joel and Audrey Strecker welcomed their baby girl Hanna into the world, weighing 3.52kg. All are doing well. Please pray for the Streckers.

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE PARISH RETREAT! SEPTEMBER 21-23 Get away for a weekend to grow together as a church family while drawing nearer to God, enjoying his beautiful creation, and having fun making memories with people of all ages. We’re very excited to be hosting our fourth annual Parish Retreat, September 2123, at Stillwood Camp at Cultus Lake. The camp has accommodations for families, couples, and singles. You’ll spend your time with old and new friends enjoying the outdoors and amenities like a pool, sauna, gymnasium, high ropes course, climbing wall, zipline, and café. There will also be times of teaching and worship. We will announce the speaker and cost soon. Please put this into your calendar, we’d love to have as many people as possible join us!
