WH AT ’S UP AT S T. JOHN’S MISSIONS TRIP TO HELPING POINT - DEADLINE EXTENSION

MISSIONS LUNCH | JULY 22

This year St. John’s is intending to send a team of four to six people to visit the work of Helping Point in India. We are still in the process of identifying team members and would like to encourage everyone to consider applying. The timing of this visit is flexible and will be made by the team in consultation with the team.

We will be hearing from Jeremy and Krista Curry about what God is doing in Nepal! Lunch will be held in the fellowship hall after the 10:00 am service ends. The cost of the meal is $5/individual or $10/family.

Helping Point is one of St. John’s primary mission partners and the purpose of the trip is to continue developing our relationship with our brothers and sisters in India and to grow in our knowledge and understanding of God’s work among all nations. If you would like an application to join the team please send an email to team@sjvan.org. Questions about the trip can be directed to Jamie Turner at jturner@helpingpoint.org. For more information on their work, visit the Helping Point website at www.helpingpoint.org.

GAFCON 2018: AN UPDATE FROM DAVID Dear Friends, It’s been a great week with Bible Camp. The message of the book of Daniel, that God is the true King of all the earth. was presented, acted, sung, and crafted in the style of steam punk (a new word for me too)! Pray that the seed of God’s word planted during the week would bear fruit for eternal life in the children and families who came. Three weeks ago now, some of us from St. John’s has the privilege of being part of the Global Anglican Futures Conference (GAFCON) in Jerusalem. It was profoundly encouraging and deeply moving. The strength of connection and belonging to a global family, seeking to live for Christ and do everything to promote his gospel, was palpable. You can access the conference statement called ‘A Letter to the Churches” here: www.gafcon.org/news/letter-to-the-churchesgafcon-assembly-2018. There were significant differences between GAFCON 2008 and this 3rd GAFCON in 2018. The depth and breadth of the speakers from across the globe was remarkable. And while GAFCON was initiated partly in response to the crisis in the communion, it is now a forward looking movement. The conference theme was: Proclaiming Christ Faithfully To The Nations, and on the last day 9 new networks were launched. Each network is a growing global community of actively involved people with relevant knowledge and experience. Here are the some of the networks: Church Planting: To expand church planting as a global strategy for evangelisation and reevangelisation. Mothers Union & Senior Women: To realise the potential of the Mothers Union as a global ministry to promote patterns of biblical marriage and family life. Youth and Children’s Ministry: To be a catalyst for mission to young people and children of all nations so that they may become faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Intercessors Fellowship: To provide prayer for the task of proclaiming Christ faithfully. Lawyers Task Force: For Anglican lawyers and Chancellors to address matters of mutual concern and share resources for the support of Gafcon and furthering the aims of the Jerusalem Declaration. Sustainable Development: To establish global partnerships and work with the local church to bring sustainable and transformative development. You can see the full list of networks at www.gafcon.org/networks and you can join and subscribe to the Jerusalem Declaration updates at www.gafcon.org/join. It’s good to back with you all! David
