MISSIONS PARTNER: RATANAK INTERNATIONAL Ratanak International’s work in Cambodia deals with the ramifications of human trafficking and exploitation. Their conviction is that one key way to confront this is to prevent it; through equipping the vulnerable with sustainable living opportunities. This year, Ratanak is helping three vulnerable communities build rice mills. They are near the Thai-Cambodia border and will provide an additional source of sustainable income to reduce the risk of unsafe migration and trafficking. By milling their own rice, families will be able to mill and sell the processed rice, as well as the husks, broken bits, and bran that are by-products of milling. Greater income for families also means safer and more secure communities, decreasing the risk of being tricked into human trafficking. St. John’s will have a team in the Ride for Refuge happening on September 29 to raise funds for Ratanak. If you’re interested in participating, put the date in your calendar. More information will be available soon.
