IN OUR COMMUNITY JACOB’S WELL WORKSHOP | OCTOBER 12 & 13 On Friday, Oct 12 (6:30-9:30 PM) and Saturday Oct 13 (10:00 am – 5:00 pm), Jacob’s Well, a parachurch community in the Downtown Eastside is offering a workshop where we explore issues of charity, justice, and God’s heart for people living on the margins of society. REFUGEE OUTREACH St. John’s partners with the faith-based agency, Journey Home, that welcomes and assists refugee claimants. They have let us know of two new ways to be involved: 1.

There is an Afghan family of eight who are in desperate need of immediate housing and support. Journey Home Canada is full and is looking to their partner churches to ask if there is any available housing. Please pray for housing and contact Jonathan Baylis jonathan@baylis.ca or 604-375-6570 if you know of a way to assist the family.

ANIC MEETING OCTOBER 4 At our upcoming synod in Abbotsford, BC some significant changes to the structure of ANiC will be proposed and considered. In preparation for those discussions you are invited to a gathering on Thursday, October 4 from 7:009:00 pm at Good Shepherd Church (189 West 11 Ave, Vancouver) that will introduce a proposal to organise ANiC into multiple dioceses and give an opportunity for delegates and church members to ask questions.

2. There is an event taking place in Chicago at the end of October for those working with refugees or who are interested in doing so. The Refugee Highway Partnership, a global and regional network of Christian organizations, churches and individuals in refugee ministry, conducts an annual Refugee Roundtable gathering in North America. It is an inspiring time of encouragement, learning, networking, worship, and connecting with others from across the continent. Information regarding the roundtable can be found here.

LEARNERS’EXCHANGE At St. John’s, there is a weekly opportunity for adult education at Learners’ Exchange. It began in 1980 as a joint initiative by Dr. JI Packer and Rev. Harry Robinson and continues under the chair of Dr. Packer, providing a unique opportunity to meet, learn, and grow. Learners’ Exchange was founded on the principle that we are all learners and all have something to share. Each week there is a presentation followed by an exchange of questions and ideas where all are encouraged to participate. Our list of speakers comes from members of the congregation and they present on a topic that falls under one or more of the four pillars of Learner’s Exchange: Christian History, The Bible, Anglicanism, Applying our faith in daily life. In the past, we’ve heard presentations on a wide range of topics as diverse as Pursuing Friendships with People on the Margins of Vancouver, Comparing the Gospels, Doctrines of Hell, and True Unity in Anglicanism. We meet each Sunday in the cafe room at 9:00 am. Coffee and refreshments are offered in advance and the atmosphere is friendly. It is a great way to meet people and find your place in the larger congregation of St. John’s. If you’re looking for a friendly informal small group that meets regularly, come and join us at Learner’s Exchange.
