What ’s up at St. John’s CATECHISM // TRANSFORMATION // 11:00 AM

LEARNERS’ EXCHANGE

What is God doing in your life? His desire is to transform you into the image of Jesus Christ: What is that like? How is he making that transformation real?

Every Sunday in the Café Room at 9:00 am, Learners’ Exchange offers stimulating speakers and engaging discussions.

Join us in catechism class today as we explore these questions and more. Together we will explore what Scripture says about our transformation, how God is forming us into Christ’s image, and how we participate in that change as individuals and as his church.

TECH NOT NEUTRAL // MARCH 12 // 7:30 PM In our first week, Regent professor Craig Gay showed us how modern technology has come to dominate the ways we think and act within our culture. It promises us ever increasing ease and convenience, while encouraging us in both obvious and subtle ways to see the world, the environment, and even other people, as “stuff to be used.” Last week Craig showed us how a renewed emphasis on the Christian doctrines of creation and incarnation are necessary to counter the dehumanizing and disembodying thrust of modern technological development. Join us this week as Craig will unpack how remembering the biblical understanding of our uniquely human vocation in the world can further equip us to respond to these modern trends from a gospel perspective. LENT DEVOTIONAL We have prepared a devotional for the season of Lent, which includes morning and evening prayers and Bible readings for each day.

Join us on Tuesday, March 19 at 1:30 pm in the church chapel for tea and coffee. Jim and Annette Ferguson will be sharing about their first trip to Israel and how they discovered “It Really Happened.” RSVP Margaret Wilson, margaret@ sjvan.org or 778-838-7400. AN EVENING OF PRAYER, SCRIPTURE, AND FOOD Evensong will meet on Tuesday, March 12 at 5:30 pm. We will meet in the main floor chapel as Tech Not Neutral is happening later in the evening. Evensong will be over in time for anyone wanting to attend the Tech not Neutral.

Practicing Lent can be picked up in the foyer this morning. An electronic copy was also sent in the weekly email on Friday.

Missions Lunch A

re you concerned about our culture’s view on identity and sexuality? Are you uncertain about how to respond? Join us today for our Missions Lunch where Journey Canada will share the joyful news about how God is bringing relational healing to individuals and educating and equipping church leaders and members in these challenging times. Scott Neufeld will be sharing about: • The Journey Canada Discipleship Course which exists to help people find hope and live life through experiencing Jesus in their relationships, sexuality, and identity. Scott Neufeld will share his testimony. • Hear about the Pastoral Approaches Seminars which give a theological framework for understanding relationships and sexuality, an exploration of cultural and psychological factors, practical pastoral guidelines, and real-life stories. The seminars offered now include Made in God’s Image Seminar, Pastoral Approaches: sexually addictive behaviour, and Pastoral Approaches: the church and same-sex attraction. Praise for Journey Canada workshops: • The role of the leaders was a key part of the healing I experienced. They gave witness to God’s healing in some very dark parts of their lives. And then they supported me as I brought my temptations, sin, and suffering to God in prayer. • I decided to attend a Journey program, knowing that I needed help in the ways I was coping and managing my anger. As I began engaging the material and encountering Jesus in prayer, I discovered how experiences of being racially taunted as a child left me powerless, ashamed, and humiliated. Through this process, I am learning how to surrender my anger and encounter Christ in ways that surprise me; ways that discount control, achievement and earthly power. He is with me with His humility, sorrow and love. JOIN US AFTER THE 11:00 AM SERVICE IN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL THE COST IS $5/PERSON OR $10/FAMILY
