What’s up at St. John’s TIME CHANGE // NEXT SUNDAY

LEARNERS’ EXCHANGE

Starting on Sunday, June 23 we will be changing from four Sunday services to three services.

Learners’ exchange is taking a break for the summer and will return in the fall with a line up of interesting topics and great speakers.

Our services through the summer will be at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, and 6:00 pm. WELCOME TO JIM SALLADIN Today our guest preacher is Jim Salladin (Dr Jim!) Jim and Amber were part of St. John’s from 2004 to 2010. Jim is an Artizo and Regent alumnus, and he worked as our evening service pastor. They left us for England where Jim completed a PhD at St. Andrews University and worked in an Anglican Parish in London. Two years ago they moved to New York City where Jim is rector of Emmanuel Anglican Church. It is a joy to welcome them both and their two boys, Caleb and Peter. STEVE JAMES & SUNDAES // JUNE 23 Rev. Steve and Rachel James are visiting Vancouver. Those who were at St. John’s 20 years ago will remember Steve as a man of music who deeply loves Christ and communicates the gospel both winsomely and effectively. He is also a great deal of fun! He will be preaching on Sunday, June 23 at the 10:00 am service. This is a great opportunity to bring friends who are interested in the Christian faith. After the service we will be hosting Sundae Sunday in the courtyard outside – where we’ll eat sundaes! YOUTH If you are a youth, we’ve had a blast with you this past year. We wrapped up youth on Friday night at our family BBQ, which means we won’t be meeting again until September (yep – that means no Sunday mornings or Friday nights). Have a great summer! BIBLE CAMP There is one month left until bible camp and we need your help! There are a few ways you can help us bring the Wild Kingdom camp to life: • Sign up to bring lunch ingredients to help feed our volunteers. •L end a prop to help decorate camp. We still need: camping chairs, a pup-tent, camping lanterns, Christmas trees, faux trees, and small mason jars.

SENIORS TEA // JUNE 18 Join us on Tuesday, June 18 at 1:30 pm in the church chapel for tea and coffee. Nicole Inboden will share about how she came to faith as a teenager and how she experienced God and his faithfulness through several trials. Please RSVP to Margaret Wilson, margaret@sjvan.org or 778-838-7400. WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDIES Are you interested in being part of a women’s bible study in the fall? This fall there will be studies both in the day and in the evening. Registration is now open on the website (sjvan.org/women). Registration will be open until the end of June and will re-open at the beginning of September as space allows.

God’s Big Story in the Psalms NEW SERMON SERIES This sermon series highlights God’s Big Story, through the lens of the book of Psalms. Over the next six weeks, we will embark on a journey through the grand biblical narrative by examining different psalms which highlight key events or time periods in Scripture. We will travel chronologically from creation, through the exodus, kingship in Israel, the exile of God’s people, the coming of the Messiah, culminating in the everlasting praise seen in Revelation. Each week, one Psalm will reflect a particular event. We will see how the psalmist paints a picture of the broader narrative of Scripture. These Psalms point us to history and the work of God throughout. We see the hand of God in the events of creation and the exodus of God’s people from Egypt. The psalms also point to our present circumstances and God’s presence today, whether glorious, like the period of David’s kingdom, or difficult, like the period of exile. We also see how the psalms point us prophetically to future realities; to the first coming of Jesus, the Messiah, several hundred years after these psalms were written, and to the everlasting praise which will be given to God for all eternity in heaven. In these ways, the Psalms open up for us God’s Big Story, helping to point us to God’s presence with and faithfulness to his chosen people throughout all time. Join us through this summer series as we dive into God’s Big Story, and see the hand of God through all time.
