What’s up at St. John’s MALAWI COMMITTEE UPDATE
MISSIONS LUNCH // JULY 14
St John’s Vancouver and the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Shire, Malawi, have enjoyed a strong partnership of gospel ministry and fellowship for over 15 years. This partnership has focused on relationship and the sharing of finances, with oversight from our Malawi committee through the Missions committee.
Sharyn Thompson will be sharing about her work translating bibles in Burkina Faso.
It has come to the Malawi and Missions committee’s recent attention that there are relational and financial challenges to the leadership within the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Shire. Until the Malawi and Mission’s committee are confident that there has been reconciliation between the bishop and clergy and scrutinized financial accountability, the Malawi and Missions committees have decided to suspend:
1) financial support 2) the 2019 St. John’s team visit
We continue to value this long friendship and pray for the right resolution of these matters as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please speak to Peggy Smart, peggysmart@telus.net, the chair of the Malawi Committee or Leo Song-Carrillo, leo@sjvan.org, chair of the Missions Committee. We are grateful to God for your generosity to the ministries of St. John’s. As of May 31 we have received 31% of the offerings that we budgeted for in 2019. Ideally, we would have recieved 41% of our budgeted offerings so that our giving and our regular ministry expenses are more in sync. As summer comes, and many of you take holidays, please plan to cotinue with your regular offerings. Please contact Krista Friebel at the church office if you have any questions.
