What’s up at St. John’s ARTIZO EVENING
LEARNERS’ EXCHANGE
Artizo will be announcing an exciting new program during the Artizo Evening coming up on October 28, but we aim to keep you in suspense until then!
Every Sunday in the Café Room at 9:00 am, Learners’ Exchange offers stimulating speakers and engaging discussions.
If you’re not familiar with the work of Artizo, this is your opportunity to find out how God’s word is faithfully passed from one generation to the next, and how preachers become preachers of the gospel!
Today No Learners’ Exchange
The event will be a wonderful casual time to catch up with current and past apprentices, and to meet our incoming first-year apprentices personally – and learn how you can pray for them and support them.
October 20 // Katy Der Why Inculturation Matters
We warmly invite you and really hope to see you there.

Sexuality, technology, media, drugs: how can we keep up with the popular cultural narratives that are shaping our children’s hearts and minds? Parenting is not supposed to be easy. But our culture is changing so quickly that it feels like raising children today is harder than ever! Good news! You’re not alone. At St. John’s we are seeking to support, equip, and encourage one another to apply the gospel in all areas of our lives. These workshops aim to equip parents, grandparents, and other supporting adults as they disciple and mentor children and teens to follow Jesus. All are warmly welcome to attend. If you have any questions or comments, contact Jeremy, jeremy@sjvan.org. SUNDAY SCHOOL PARENTING SERIES This is a three-part series led by registered social worker and parent consultant Rebecca Janke. Each session will provide information grounded in developmental and attachment theory as well as neuroscience, focusing on parenting 18 months to 12 years old. Parents will have an opportunity to discuss the material and integrate it into their circumstances.
WHEN: Sundays Oct 27, Nov 24, and Jan 26, 12:30-2:00 pm COST: Registration for the entire three-part workshop is $30 per family. Childcare is provided for ages 1 to grade 6. Register at sjvan.org/events. Registration will close on Oct 21.
YOUTH PARENT NIGHTS REEFER MADNESS: DISCIPLING YOUR TEEN IN THE NEW ERA OF LEGALIZED MARIJUANA 25% of Canadians aged 15-25 have smoked cannabis in the last three months (35% of boys, 15% of girls). Although it may be illegal for those under 19 if your teen hasn’t tried some form of marijuana, they almost certainly know someone who has. Come and learn the facts about recreational pot use and the questions to ask your teen as we consider how to engage popular cultural narratives critically.
WHEN: Friday, Oct 18, 6:00-8:30 pm COST: free
MYTUNES: WHY WHAT WE LISTEN TO MATTERS What was your favourite song when you were a teen? Can you still sing along when it comes on the radio? Few things are more formational than melody and lyrics. We’ll learn from one another how to use music as a launching point for important dialogue about our emotions, our affections, and recognizing why what we listen to matters.
WHEN: Friday, Nov 22, 6:00-8:30 pm COST: free
