GIVING TO ST. JOHN’S One of Henry Nouwen’s most beautiful books is “The Spirituality of Fund-Raising.” Nouwen was a Catholic priest and intellectual, who after teaching at Yale, Harvard, and Notre Dame spent the last ten years of his life leading the L’Arche Daybreak Community in Ontario – a community for those with profound development disabilities. In this short book, Nouwen asks: How do we feel when people ask us for money? ...Money conversations are a greater taboo than conversations about sex or religion... money has something to do with the intimate place in our heart where we need security.

From the perspective of the gospel, fundraising is not a response to a crisis. Fundraising is, first and foremost, a form of ministry... Fund-raising is proclaiming what we believe in such a way that we offer other people an opportunity to participate with us in our vision and mission... In fund-raising we are inviting people into a new way of relating to their resources... “You won’t become poorer, you will become richer by giving.” We can confidently declare with the Apostle Paul: “You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity...” (2 Cor. 9:11).

Put your gift in the offering plate

Give Monthly

For our regular givers we offer boxes of offering envelopes that contain fifty-two dated envelopes – one for each Sunday. Visitors who wish to donate to the offering plate can pick up single offering envelopes at a table in the foyer.

Donate Securities

All of our church services include a time of offering where a plate is passed along from person to person and you can place your offering into it. We are able to accept both cash and cheques during the offering time.

Give online

If you prefer to donate online simply visit stjohnsvancouver.org/give. We use PayPal to process our online donations, but you don’t have to have a PayPal account; you can give online with just your credit card. For those who would prefer donating from their bank account simply create a PayPal account and link your debit card to your account. PayPal offers St. John’s a charity rate for processing donations that is very competitive with other payment processors

One of the easiest ways to give is through our direct debit program. We can set you up to have your bank account automatically debited on the 15th of each month for the amount you choose to give. St. John’s is able to accept donations of securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc.). Through the generosity of our broker we do not pay any processing fees or commissions. Once your security is sold your entire donation goes to St. John’s

Leave a gift in your will St. John’s has been the grateful recipient of many financial gifts that people have left as part of their last will and testament. If you are in the process of creating or changing your will we ask that you prayerfully consider how you might support the ministries of St. John’s in this way. Please contact any of the Trustees, through the church office, if you have more questions about this.
