AT ST. JOHN’S

JOB OPENING // EVENING SERVICE VERGER

In the Middle Ages, the Verger led the procession of the altar party into the church. Back then, the Verger swung the virge (a short staff or mace with a small cross on the end) to keep back animals, ruffians, and ne’er-do-wells who might interfere with the procession. Modern day Vergers have quite a different job and at St. John’s their primary responsibility is helping with the practical set up of church furniture and running the sound/audio technology during the evening service in addition to other duties as are needed. This is a perfect job for a student or someone who wants to work part-time. If you are interested in the position please email krista@sjvan.org

MORNING CATECHISM SESSIONS SUNDAY, MAR 1 // 11:00 AM

This week’s topic: “I Believe in the Life Everlasting”. What do we know about heaven? What don’t we know? What does heaven have to do with my bucket list? This week in Catechism at 11 am we will be working on the last part of the Apostles’ Creed “I Believe in the Life Everlasting”. Next week we begin a two part series on the Sacraments, bringing the course to an end for the term on March 15th. Please join us, we would love to see you.

MARCH 1, 2020

GRIEF GROUP // FEB 6 - APRIL 16

NO EVENING CATECHISM // MARCH 1

What can we say? Grief is complex and complicated but a time to experience God’s comfort and hope. Sometimes it is difficult to recognize the comfort of the gospel but other times you find Jesus’ hope in time of loss is like a renewal of your conversion.

This Sunday, March 1st, Catechism at 7pm is cancelled due to soup Sundays.

Next week’s topic: What is God’s vision for marriage, sex, and fostering fidelity among his people?

At SJV we want to walk along side you in your grief with the Psalmists. Beginning February 6 we will begin a 9 session grief group/bible study meeting weekly.

We will be back again on the March 8th and we will be covering the seventh commandment, “though shall not commit adultery.”

Please contact james@sjvan.org for more information or visit the website for registration.

Come along for a light meal and a heavy discussion.
