Exploring the Waterfront Festival: An Adventure Awaits with the Passport Activity

The annual Waterfront Festival has always been a beacon of community spirit, drawing locals and visitors alike to its bustling fairgrounds filled with tantalizing treats, lively music, and a plethora of vendors showcasing their wares. However, this year, organizers have added a new layer of excitement to the festivities with the introduction of the Passport activity.
If you’re planning to attend this year’s festival, make sure to swing by the HF Sinclair booth to pick up your very own Passport. This nifty little booklet isn’t just your average piece of paper; it’s your ticket to a unique adventure throughout the festival grounds.
So, what exactly is the Passport activity all about? Well, it’s quite simple yet incredibly engaging. Inside your Passport, you’ll find a curated list of vendors to visit during your time at the festival. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to seek out these vendors and complete a designated activity or answer a few questions provided by each one. Think of it as a scavenger hunt meets a trivia challenge, sprinkled with a dash of exploration. As you make your way from booth to booth, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of offerings the festival has to offer. Whether you’re indulging in delectable treats, admiring handcrafted treasures, or learning fascinating tidbits about the local community, each interaction promises to be a delightful experience.
But here’s the best part – every time you successfully complete an activity or answer the vendor’s questions, you’ll receive a stamp on your Passport. It’s like collecting badges of honor as you journey through the festival grounds, each stamp serving as a tangible memento of your adventures.
Now, I know what you’re thinking – what’s in it for you besides the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of completing challenges? Well, fear not, intrepid festival-goers, for your efforts shall be handsomely rewarded! Once your Passport book is filled to the brim with stamps, simply return to the HF Sinclair booth to claim your well-deserved prize.
While the exact nature of the prize remains shrouded in mystery (for now, at least), rest assured that it will be a fitting token of appreciation for your participation in this exciting new addition to the Waterfront Festival experience.
So, whether you’re a seasoned festival aficionado or a first-time visitor, don’t miss out on the opportunity to embark on this thrilling journey with the Passport activity. Grab your Passport, gather your friends and family, and set forth into the heart of the festival – adventure awaits!
Who knows what treasures you might uncover, what stories you might discover, and what memories you’ll create along the way. One thing’s for sure – with the Passport activity, this year’s Waterfront Festival promises to be an unforgettable affair for all who dare to embark on the adventure.
Club offers kids chance to build boats
There is a longtime annual tradition for Anacortes children of boatbuilding doll-sized boats at the Anacortes Waterfront Festival and then floating them in a pool to check their seaworthiness.
The Fidalgo Rotary Club starts early, working with area businesses to cut hulls out for more than 1,000 small wooden boats.
Each youngster first picks up a hull.
Then they gather in a building area, often with parents in tow, to nail fixtures and decorations to their boats, which include the mast, a sail, corks and other decorations.
Once built, they can test their newly created vessels in the nearby pool.
The booth is always one of the biggest draws of the festival. Donations towards next year’s supplies are happily accepted.

Teams build boats they hope float
The annual Quick and Dirty Boatbuilding Demonstration is one of the biggest draws on the Waterfront Festival, especially for adults.
The little kids come to build miniature boats. The grownups come to watch other adults build much bigger boats by hand and then try to race them. Inevitably, not all prove to be seaworthy.
It’s not only good fun, but also a way to raise money for local charities.
The contest challenges teams to build the best boat they can in only six hours and using a limited number of supplies.
Then, the teams launch in the marina and see which vessel can make it to the end of the dock and back... without capsizing, sinking or falling apart.
Some sail cleanly across the fi nish line; others have been known to make it a few feet.
Teams will build the boats from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and then decorate them from 3-5 p.m.
A pararde of the boats from the stage down to the water will start at 5 p.m., followed closely by the demonstration on the water.
Awards include Best Design,

Best Use of Mystery Material and Wettest
Feet.
Visitors can donate to diff erent teams to earn them a People’s Choice Award. Yes, it’s an award where the votes are money.
The winning team will donate its earnings to a nonprofi t of its choice.
The others will donate half of the money to their chosen and half to the People’s Choice charity of choice.

2024 Anacortes Waterfront Festival Anacortes Yacht Club (AYC) Boat Rides

There may be 17,000 residents on Fidalgo Island, but a lot of them never get a chance to ride a boat.
The odds improve each year during the Anacortes Waterfront Festival. Anacortes Yacht Club members host free rides on their boats during both days of the festival, with options for both power and sailboats.
But the spots fill up fast.
Visitors should look for the yacht club near the entrance to the marina to sigh up for a time slot. ‘Boat riders should wear closedtoe shoes and must sign a waiver before heading out. There are age limits.
Rides are typically about 45 minutes.
Registration will be located in front of the Harbormaster’s office at the former site of the gazebo. We’ve coordinated with the Cap Sante Marina Harbormaster for the allocation of 10 slips on “C” dock for our boats.
