Thanks to the “SPHERIC SEARCH TECHNOLOGY”, the 60 meters bandwidth AXIO is the only beacon on the market processing an entire spherical search with 3 antennas working simultaneously. Modern beacons have three receiving antennas, two of them are used simultaneously to catch a signal in the primary search. Most of the time the 2nd antenna’s performance is less than the primary one. This affects the search bandwidth distance which is calculated on the worst reception scenario. The NEO is the first beacon to have performance equal on both antennas and consequently it is the first beacon to consistently and confidently achieve a 60m search bandwidth.

The nature of electronic devices (i.e. smartphones, digital radios, GPS, cameras…) has an impact on the efficiency of searching for buried victims. These devices can create interferences covering a large spectrum of frequencies including 457 kHz, the frequency used by beacons. When a beacon is in search mode, any amount of interference on the 457 kHz can be mixed with a distance and can therefore show as a distance and direction indication corresponding to this interference. IN ORDER TO AVOID THIS ISSUE, SEVERAL ACTIONS MAY BE CONSIDERED: • Reduce interferences level by switching off most of the electronic devices you are holding and/or move away from metallic infrastructures as much as possible. • Put the beacon in analog mode when possible. Enabling this mode allows the user to listen to the actual sound of the signal and be able to differentiate it from what is called a “ghost signal” (basically an unstable signal) related to interference and searching of electromagnetic waves. • Reduce bandwidth to improve the interference filtering process, by the beacon, through software capabilities. This software program is now available for older AXIS, LINK, and PROW as well as NEO and AXIO beacons. EMITTING MODE Keep the beacon away from all metallic and electronic devices at a distance of 20 cm minimum. RECEPTION MODE Keep the beacon away from all metallic and electronic devices at a distance of 50 cm minimum. It is strongly recommended for people in an active search process to switch off all devices except: - Analog radio - Headlamp without automatic converter - Watch without wireless options - Back up devices in case of a second avalanche NUMERICAL DEVICE FOR COMMUNICATION It is strongly recommended to switch off phones and digital radios during the search phase. It is also not recommended to use any cell phones or radios within a distance of 25 meters of active searchers. La démocratisation des appareils électroniques (smartphone, radios numériques, GPS, caméras…) peut avoir des conséquences sur la qualité des recherches ARVA. En effet ces

appareils peuvent créer des interférences qui couvrent un large spectre de fréquence dont le 457kHz, fréquence utilisée par les DVAs. Pour un appareil en mode recherche, la partie de l’interférence qui se trouve sur le 457kHz peut être confondue avec le signal lointain d’un émetteur, et par conséquent l’appareil peut afficher momentanément une indication de distance et de direction correspondant à cette interférence.

POUR ÉVITER CE PHÉNOMÈNE PLUSIEURS ACTIONS SONT ENVISAGEABLES : • réduire le niveau des interférences en éteignant le maximum d’appareils électroniques embarqués sur les personnes et/ou en vous éloignant des infrastructures métalliques lorsque cela est possible • basculer en mode analogique pour les appareils le permettant, ce qui permet à l’oreille de discerner un signal réel (caractérisé par une succession de bips) d’un signal fantome (absence de bips stables) et effectuer une recherche en micro-bandes. • réduire la largeur de bande de recherche pour mieux « filtrer » les interférences de l’appareil par un développement Software. Logiciels disponibles sur AXIS, LINK, PROW 5.0 et NEO 3.0

UM DIESES PHENOMEN ZU VERMEIDEN, KÖNNEN VERSCHIEDENE MAßNAHMEN DURCHGEFÜHRT WERDEN: • Verringern Sie die Interferenzen in dem Sie die meisten mitgenommen elektronische Geräte ausschalten und/oder in dem Sie sich von naheliegenden metallischen Strukturen, falls möglich, entfernen. • Wechseln Sie in den Analog-Modus bei Geräten die diese Funktion beinhalten. Dies ermöglicht das Gehör zwischen ein reales Signal (gekennzeichnet durch eine Folge an Pieptönen) und ein Phantom-Signal (Fehlen von gleichbleibenden Pieptönen) zu unterscheiden. Führen Sie anschließend eine Suche im MikroSuchstreifenbreite-Modus durch. • Reduzieren Sie die Suchstreifenbreite, um die Interferenzen des Geräts durch eine SoftwareEntwicklung besser filtern zu können. Il est conseillé pour les personnes en recherche active d’éteindre tous les appareils sauf : - Radio analogique - Lampe frontale sans variateur auto - Montre sans fonction radio - Appareils de back up en cas de seconde avalanche. APPAREILS DE COMMUNICATION NUMÉRIQUES Il est conseillé d’éteindre les téléphones et les radios numériques pendant la phase de recherche active. Il est conseillé de passer tous les appels téléphoniques ou radio à 25 m minimum des chercheurs. T R U E P ERFO RM A N CE M AT TERS The first avalanche airbag systems appeared in the late 80s, for a long time they were considered as just another gadget or unnecessary equipment. However, these systems have now fundamentally changed perception and been fully accepted worldwide, while becoming lighter, more comfortable, and better performing. As a major brand on the snow safety market ARVA has been involved in this progression for several years, our team members and technical partners have been constantly working in this specialized field, and have contributed to the design and development of airbag packs for the past 15 years, becoming industry experts and leaders. The development of this equipment is a enormous task, one which requires a profound experience both in the field and in design. From the development to the production Arva has collaborated with the leading brands, contributing several innovations which have already affected the global market. This winter will mark a turning point for our history. We have made the decision to apply our expertise and develop the REACTOR: the lightest, most compact, and reliable avalanche airbag system yet. This is not just another airbag pack. The objective was to complete our traditional beacon-shovel-probe safety system in an innovative way, in line with ARVA’s values by seeking to improve all aspects of the product to better the user experience. REACTOR is a combination or technology, creativity, and know-how made in France.

Les premiers sacs airbag sont apparus à la fin des années 80. Longtemps considérés comme un matériel superflu, les systèmes se sont profondément développés, perfectionnés, allégés. En tant qu’acteur majeur de la sécurité, la marque ARVA se devait de participer à l’aventure. Peu de gens le savent mais l’entreprise a contribué au développement des sacs airbags sous diverses formes depuis 15 ans, au travers de ses équipes et partenaires experts dans ce domaine si particulier. La mise au point de ce genre de système de sécurité est un travail colossal qui requiert une expérience profonde de leur fonctionnement sur le terrain. Du développement à la fabrication, nos équipes ont longtemps collaboré avec une marque leader du marché, étant même à l’origine de plusieurs innovations de rupture à l’échelle mondiale. Cet hiver va marquer un tournant dans notre histoire. BACK PROTECTOR D3O® materials in their raw state flow freely when moved slowly, but on shock, lock together to absorb and disperse energy, before instantly returning to their flexible state. This reaction is counter intuitive. The greater the force of the impact, the more the molecules lock together and the greater the protection. Les protections D3O® restent souples quand le contact avec elles est lent. A l’impact, les molécules de la protection se verrouillent ensemble pour absorber et dissiper l’énergie, avant de retourner instantanément à leur état flexible. The ARVA MULTIFIT technology combines different layers of foam protection to provide a system that equally distributes shock-absorption. The impact is then dissipated and distributed on a more equal surface. The specific thickness of each layer also allows a flexibility and mobility of the protection as well as the body. La technologie ARVA MultiFit associe différentes couches de mousse de protection pour obtenir un système d’absorption et de répartition des chocs. L’impact résiduel est ainsi dissipé et réparti sur une surface plus importante. La fine épaisseur de chacune des couches permet une souplesse de la protection pour une adaptation à la morphologie humaine.

The ARVA HexaFit technology consists of a single layer of high-density foam. The foam is cut in the shape of hexagon, and gives mobility in twisting to adapt itself to the shape of the back. The energy of the shock is absorbed by this high-density foam and distributed throughout the surface, along the hexagons. The result is an application of technology which leading to a less concentrated impact in this crucial area. La technologie ARVA HexaFit se compose d’une seule couche de mousse haute densité. You can go through a retailer or feel free to contact us directly. For faster service we advise you to have your beacon checked at the end of the winter, in late spring/summer as we are less busy. (Europe only)

ALL ARVA beacons include a 5 year warranty. Warranty does not apply from mis-use (fall, shock, moisture…) or for on battery corrostion due to not removing batteries for extened periods of time or seasons.

Your beacon lifetime depends on the way you use it. We apply a 5 year warranty on manufacturing issues. After 5 years we strongly advise to have your beacon checked more often. Be aware of the benefits of product innovation and efficiency. If you use any beacon more than 10 years you are likely losing search performance with your old analog or newer digital beacon.

La durée de vie d’un appareil dépend bien sûr de la façon dont vous l’entretenez. Un appareil récent est garanti 5 ans. Après 5 ans il est conseillé de faire réviser très régulièrement votre appareil pour s’assurer du bon fonctionnement. Il faut aussi prendre en compte l’évolution du matériel. Si vous êtes propriétaire d’un appareil analogique de plus de 10 ans, il est intéressant de comparer vos performances en recherche par rapport à celles d’un appareil récent.
