Thanks to the “SPHERIC SEARCH TECHNOLOGY”, the 60 meters bandwidth AXIO is the only beacon on the market processing an entire spherical search with 3 antennas working together. The 3rd antenna can be deployed to create a real landmark built by the 3 antennas of the beacon. ISOTECH : Modern beacons have three receiving antennas, two of them are used simultaneously to catch a signal in the primary search. Most of the time the 2nd antenna’s performance is less than the primary one. This affects the search bandwidth distance which is calculated on the worst reception scenario. The NEO is the first beacon to have performance equal on both antennas and consequently it is the first beacon to consistently and confidently achieve a 60m search bandwidth. Bandwith corresponds to the size the area «scanned» by the searching device. The device’s search area increases as bandwidth increases. This criterion is often used to compare beacon performance. La largeur de bande de recherche correspond à la largeur de la zone «scannée» par l’appareil en recherche. Plus la largeur de bande de recherche est importante, plus l’appareille couvre une grande zone de recherche. Elle est souvent utilisée pour comparer les performances des appareils. Die Suchstreifenbreite entspricht der Breite des vom Gerät im Suchmodus „gescannten“ Bereichs. Je größer die Suchstreifenbreite ist, desto größer ist der vom Gerät abgedeckte Suchbereich. Sie wird häufig für den Leistungsvergleich unterschiedlicher Geräte herangezogen.

AUTO CHECK :

When turning on the device, conduct an auto-check. This checks battery levels, that the devices is functioning properly, and signals any problems. Lors de la mise en route, l’appreil fait un auto-check. Il contrôle le niveau des piles, la bonne fonctionnalité de l’appareil et vous informe en cas de problème. Beim Einschalten führt das Gerät einen Selbsttest durch. Es überprüft den Ladezustand der Batterien, die ordnungsgemäße Funktion des Geräts und informiert den Nutzer im Falle eines Problems.

GROUP CHECK :

The group-check function allows you to easily verify if every member of your group has their beacon in transmit mode. The group-check function enables the device to conduct a fine search, allowing you to individually check the members of your group at a one-meter distance. La fonction group-check permet de s’assurer simplement que tous les membres d’un groupe portent un DVA en émission. La fonction group-check place l’appareil en recherche de proximité, permettant de contrôler chacun des membres du groupe individuellement en se plaçant à moins d’un mètre d’eux. Mit der Gruppentest-Funktion lässt sich auf einfache Weise feststellen, ob alle Mitglieder der Gruppe ein im Sendemodus befindliches LVS-Gerät tragen. Für die Gruppentest-Funktion schaltet das Gerät auf Nahsuche, so dass der Gruppenleiter jedes einzelne Mitglied der Gruppe aus einer Distanz von unter einem Meter kontrollieren kann.

Once a victim is found, the mark function allows you to ignore their signal to focus on searching for other victims. The «marked» victim’s signal is no longer indicated during the rest of the search. En recherche une fois une victime localisée, la fonction marquage permet de faire abstraction de cette victime pour se concentrer sur la recherche d’une autre victime. Le signal de la victime «marquée» n’est alors plus pris en compte pour la suite de la recherche. Wenn eine verschüttete Person lokalisiert wurde, ermöglicht es die Markierfunktion, diese Person auszublenden, um sich auf die Suche nach einem weiteren Verschütteten zu konzentrieren. Das Signal des „markierten“ Verschütteten wird bei der weiteren Suche nicht mehr berücksichtigt.

FREQUENCE CONTROL :

In group-check mode, the beacon equipped with a frequency check function will indicate if the other devices are transmitting properly at the international standard frequency of 457 kHz. All beacons on the market use this frequency but may deviate over time with use. If the frequency of the transmitting device deviates more than +/- 80 Hz, the beacon in group-check mode will indicate an error. If the frequency verification is measured, the deviation will be displayed on screen (only for the AXIO). En mode group-check, l’appareil équipé de la fonction contrôle de fréquence indique si l’appareil en émission fonctionne bien sur la fréquence internationale de 457 kHz. Tous les appareils du marché utilisent cette fréquence mais peuvent cependant se décaler avec l’usure. Si la fréquence de l’appareil en émission est décalée de plus de + ou - 80 Hz alors l’appareil en mode group-check indique une erreur. Si le controle de fréquence se fait par mesure alors la déviation de fréquence est affichée (uniquement pour l’AXIO). Im Gruppentest-Modus zeigt das mit der Frequenzkontrolle ausgestattete Gerät an, ob das Gerät im Sendemodus die internationale 457 kHz Standardfrequenz verwendet. Alle im Handel erhältlichen Geräte verwenden diese Frequenz, können allerdings im Laufe der Zeit eine Abweichung aufweisen. Wenn die Frequenz des Geräts im Sendemodus um + oder - 80 Hz abweicht, zeigt das Gerät im Gruppentest-Modus einen Fehler an. Wenn die Frequenzkontrolle durch Messung erfolgt, wird die Frequenzabweichung angezeigt (nur beim AXIO).

SWITCH BACK TO TRANSMISSION :

During a search, in the event of a secondary avalanche, the return to transmit function allows the device to automatically switch back to transmit mode. This switch is activated either by timer after a certain period of time of user inactivity, or by motion detector after a certain amount of time where the device has not moved. Configure these timeframes in your beacon’s settings menu. Lors de la recherche, en cas de suravalanche, la fonction retour en émission permet de repasser l’appareil en emission automatiquement, sans action de l’utilisateur. Le retour en émission se fait soit par timer, c’est-à-dire après un délai sans action de l’utilisateur soit par detecteur de mouvement, apres un délai sans mouvement de l’appareil. Ces délais sont paramétrables dans le menu de configuration de l’appareil. Bei einer Nachlawine ermöglicht es die Funktion „Rückstellung in den Sendemodus“, das Gerät ohne Eingreifen des Benutzers automatisch vom Such- in den Sendemodus zu schalten. Die Rückstellung in den Sendemodus erfolgt entweder per Zeitschaltuhr (nachdem das Gerät eine bestimmte Zeit vom Benutzer nicht betätigt wurde) oder über Bewegungsmelder (nachdem das Gerät eine bestimmte Zeit nicht bewegt wurde). Diese Zeiten können im Konfigurationsmenü des Geräts programmiert werden.

INTERFERENCES MANAGEMENT :

Interference management maximizes the device’s performance in search mode in an environment «overrun» by electromagnetic interference. To accomplish this, the device in search mode automatically reduces the bandwidth and ignores all other frequencies to focus solely on the beacon being tracked. This function can be deactivated by the user. La gestion des interférences optimise les performances

de l’appareil en recherche dans un environnement «pollué» par des interférences électromagnétiques. Pour se faire l’appareil en recherche réduit automatiquement la largeur de bande de recherche pour se concentrer sur le signal de l’appareil recherché en faisant abstraction des fréquences parasites. Cette fonction peut-être désactivée par l’utilisateur. Das Interferenz-Management optimiert die Leistungseigenschaften des Geräts bei der Suche in einer durch elektromagnetische Störungen beeinträchtigten Umgebung. Hierfür reduziert das im Suchmodus befindliche Gerät automatisch die Suchstreifenbreite, um sich auf das Signal des gesuchten Geräts zu konzentrieren und Störfrequenzen auszublenden. Die Funktion kann vom Benutzer deaktiviert werden.

STAND BY MODE :

A device in standby mode is neither searching nor transmitting. This function allows the user to work the avalanche without their device interfering with the ongoing search. In the event of a secondary avalanche, the return to transmit function automatically switches the device back to transmit mode. L’appareil en mode standby n’est ni en recherche, ni en emission. Cette fonction est destinée à travailler sur l’avalanche sans perturber les recherches avec les ondes de l’appareil. En cas de suravalanche, la fonction retour en émission remet automatiquement l’appareil en mode émission. Im Standby-Modus ist weder die Such- noch die Sendefunktion aktiviert. Dieser Modus dient dazu, an einer Lawine zu arbeiten, ohne die Suche durch die elektromagnetischen Wellen des Geräts zu stören. Im Falle einer Nachlawine schaltet die Funktion „Rückstellung in den Sendemodus“ das Gerät automatisch wieder auf Senden.

SCROLLING FUNCTION :

Victim selection allows you to more efficiently organize rescue operations by selecting a specific victim to track and dividing search responsibilities between rescuers. Although the victim’s identity is not displayed, a list of victims is generated in order of proximity, allowing you to select a victim based on their distance from you. La sélection de victimes permet d’organiser un secours en sélectionnant la victime recherchée pour répartir au mieux la recherche entre les secouristes. L’identité des victimes n’est pas affichée mais une liste de victime est créée dans l’ordre de proximité ce qui permet de selctionner la victime en fonction de la distance. Die Funktion „Auswahl der Verschütteten“ dient zur Organisation eines Rettungsvorgangs. Die gesuchte Person wird ausgewählt, um die Suche bestmöglich zwischen den Rettern aufzuteilen. Die Identität der verschütteten Personen wird nicht angezeigt. Es wird eine Liste der Verschütteten in der Reihenfolge der Signalstärke angezeigt, so dass der Verschüttete entsprechend der Entfernung ausgewählt werden kann.

INTERFERENCE The democratization of electronic devices (smartphone, numerical radios, GPS, cameras…) has an impact on the efficiency of buried victims search. These devices can create interferences covering a large spectrum of frequencies including 457 kHz, frequency used by beacons. When a beacon is in search mode, the amount of interferences on the 457 kHz can be mixed with a distant signal and therefore the beacon will show a distance and direction indication corresponding to this interference. In order to avoid this issue, several actions may be considered: •฀Reduce฀interferences฀level฀by฀switching฀off฀most฀of฀ the electronic devices you are holding and/or move away from metallic infrastructures as much as possible. •฀Put฀the฀beacon฀in฀analog฀mode฀when฀possible.฀ Enabling this mode allow user to listen to the real sound of the signal to at the end being able to differentiate it from what we call a “ghost signal” (missing stable signal) corresponding to interferences and searching according to micro-bands. •฀Reduce฀bandwidth฀to฀improve฀the฀interferences฀ filtering process by the beacon through a software development. Program is now available for AXIS, LINK, PROW 5.0, NEO 3.0 and AXIO 1.5.

Keep the beacon away from all metallic and electronic devices at a distance of 20 cm minimum

RECEPTION MODE

Keep the beacon away from all metallic and electronic devices at a distance of 50 cm minimum. It is strongly recommended for people in active search process to switch off all devices except: - Analog radio - Headlamp without automatic converter - Watch without the radio option - Back up devices in case of a second avalanche

NUMERICAL DEVICE FOR COMMUNICATION

It is strongly recommended to switch off phones and digital radios during the search phase. It is also recommended not to use any cell phones or radios at a distance from active searchers below 25 meters.

INTERFÉRENCE

INTERFERENZEN

La démocratisation des appareils électroniques (smartphones, radios numériques, GPS, caméras…) peut avoir des conséquences sur la qualité des recherches ARVA. En effet ces appareils peuvent créer des interférences qui couvrent un large spectre de fréquences dont le 457kHz, fréquence utilisée par les DVAs. Pour un appareil en mode recherche, la partie de l’interférence qui se trouve sur le 457kHz peut être confondue avec le signal lointain d’un émetteur, et par conséquent l’appareil peut afficher momentanément une indication de distance et de direction correspondant à cette interférence. Pour éviter ce phénomène plusieurs actions sont envisageables : •฀réduire฀le฀niveau฀des฀interférences฀en฀éteignant฀le฀ maximum d’appareils électroniques embarqués sur les personnes et/ou en vous éloignant des infrastructures métalliques lorsque cela est possible •฀basculer฀en฀mode฀analogique฀pour฀les฀appareils฀le฀ permettant, ce qui permet à l’oreille de discerner un signal réel (caractérisé par une succession de bips) d’un signal fantôme (absence de bips stables) et effectuer une recherche en micro-bandes. •฀réduire฀la฀largeur฀de฀bande฀฀de฀recherche฀pour฀mieux฀ « filtrer » les interférences de l’appareil par un développement Software. Logiciels disponibles sur AXIS, LINK, PROW 5.0, NEO 3.0 et AXIO 1.5.

Bestimmte elektronische Geräte sowie elektrische und elektromagnetische Anlagen können die Signale von LVS-Geräten erheblich stören. Hierbei kann es sich um folgende Geräte oder Infrastrukturen handeln: •฀Mitgeführte฀Geräte:฀Smartphones,฀analoge฀Funkgeräte , Kameras, Pulsuhren, Navigationssysteme...; •฀Feststehende Anlagen: Funkmaste, Hochspannungsleitungen, Stromversorgungen, usw. •฀Um฀die฀Risiken฀von฀Signalstörungen฀zu฀vermindern,฀ empfehlen wir Ihnen Ihr LVS-Gerät so weit wie möglich von elektrischen und elektromagnetischen Quellen zu entfernen.

EN EMISSION

Wir empfehlen Telefone und digitale Funkgeräte während der aktiven Suche auszuschalten. Telefonate oder Funksprüche sollten mit einer Mindestentfernung von 25 m vom Suchteam geführt werden.

Il est conseillé pour les personnes en recherche active d’éteindre tous les appareils sauf : - Radio analogique - Lampe frontale sans variateur auto - Montre sans fonction radio - Appareils de back up en cas de seconde avalanche.

APPAREILS DE COMMUNICATION NUMÉRIQUES

Il est conseillé d’éteindre les téléphones et les radios numériques pendant la phase de recherche active. Il est conseillé de passer tous les appels téléphoniques ou radio à 25 m minimum des chercheurs.

Undoing the waist buckle automatically switches the device into search mode by using the waist strap as the safety lanyard. You can go through a retailer or feel free to contact us directly. For faster service we advise you to have your beacon checked at the end of the winter, in late spring/summer as we are less busy. ALL ARVA beacons include a 5 year warranty. Warranty does not apply from mis-use (fall, shock, moisture…) or for on battery corrostion due to not removing batteries for extened periods of time or seasons.

Your beacon lifetime depends on the way you use it. We apply a 5 year warranty on manufacturing issues. After 5 years we strongly advise to have your beacon checked more often. Be aware of the benefits of product innovation and efficiency. If you use any beacon more than 10 years you are likely losing search performance with your old analog or newer digital beacon.

La durée de vie d’un appareil dépend bien sûr de la façon dont vous l’entretenez. Un appareil récent est garanti 5 ans. Après 5 ans il est conseillé de faire réviser très régulièrement votre appareil pour s’assurer du bon fonctionnement. Il faut aussi prendre en compte l’évolution du matériel.
