IN CELEBRATION OF ESCAPISM WELCOME TO THE 2017-18 SEASON Often the world is beyond our reach, beyond our control, continually morphing, moving through good and bad, light and dark. As skiers, we always have our retreat in the mountains. It’s a place of centering, where the inner and outer world are positioned relative to one another to produce harmony. The joy of snow gliding brings positive energy and warmth––it just does. Sometimes people from the lowlands cry “escapism”. Well, yes, and that’s a good thing. Some of us disappear entirely as pow-surfing recluses, and others take that energy and experience built on spines and meadows, and transmute it into strength to fight the good fight in the lowlands. Either

way, the skiing life functions all at once as an engine, a force field of protection, and a compass. We march to the beat of the dance of surfing snow. It’s an art not influenced by trend, politics or whims. Our mission as a ski company is to tap into the deepest roots of that dance, channel it, and then emerge with evolved designs. And as the world turns for better or worse, we’ll be hard at work, attempting to perfect works imbibed with the spirit of transmutation; tools that foster deeper access not just to the physical mountains, but to ourselves. – Stephan Drake is the founder of DPS.

DPS is about the myster y encountered during a slide across deep snow. It is the inspiration for ever ything we create. It fuels a reverence for mountains, stor ms, and the people who sculpt powder culture. It leads us on a search for distant ranges and on a quest for the most progressively shaped and built skis on the planet.

The Cinematic Dream DPS Cinematic was built from the beginning, on dreams.

T

here’s a dream that is unique to every skier: they imagine their idea of the perfect snowfall, cradled in the perfect terrain, unlocking the potential for that perfect turn. Our entire philosophy as skiers is driven towards seeking out that one perfect dream-like moment made just for you, where everything simply works, and the complexities of life fall away into the reeling powder in your wake. Filmmaking, for me, has always been a tool to unlock that world of dreams. It’s a chance to craft light and location and all the elements at your disposal towards your unique idea of perfection, to set up a scene as ideally as possible so that everything is in its right place when the dominoes fall–all to focus a viewer’s perspective on that ultimate moment when the regular hits a flashpoint and becomes magic. Skiing or filmmaking—it’s all about seeking out that singular moment that makes everything worth the effort it took to find yourself within it. In 2009, I shot a few of those moments when I shared a dream-altering trip to Haines with DPS founder Stephan Drake. Since then, DPS has evolved as a ski company, and I have evolved as a filmmaker, but the core dream we shared on that trip has remained the same. And that is what DPS Cinematic still hopes to deliver: high performance skiing, in stunning terrain, under brilliant light, sculpted from a cinematic perspective. A union of two dreams. That perfect dream-like moment is a fleeting thing, always there and gone, easily forgotten as we move into the next turn in life. But through the union of skiing and cinema, it’s our hope that capturing and sharing that ideal moment, as best we can interpret it, will not only remind skiers of their own perfect moments from powder-turns past, but inspire them to seek out even deeper dreams, in the storms to come.

CHOOSE YOUR CONSTRUCTION

CHOOSE YOUR SHAPE

Dedicated skiers have a full-build menu to choose from. Once you select your shape, you can match it with a series of cutting-edge constructions; each with their own distinctive and fine-tuned attributes. DPS reaches into every corner of a skier’s imagination when it comes to ski layup and design, spanning the spectrum from elite high-tech Pure aerospace prepreg carbon (Alchemist), damp and powerful bamboo-carbon (Foundation), a distinct metal race-room feel (Hybrid T2), or super-lightweight ascent-descent focused touring skis (Tour1).

We have always categorized ski shapes into three general families. All of the skis within a particular family, regardless of how they are shaped or designed, correlate to an intended use within a general set of terrain and snow conditions. Each family can also be recognized by a range of waist widths e.g. the frontside, firmer snow Cassiar family contains skis between 82mm-95mm underfoot. Within each family, there are often different styles of shapes, flex patterns, and sidecut designs.

LOTUS FAMILY

WAILER FAMILY Waist Width: 99mm - 115mm

Waist Width: >115mm

Next-level, vibration-tuned aerospace grade carbon ski construction melded with absolutely the finest supporting materials.

DPS’ roots are ingrained in the pursuit of deep powder. From our inception a decade ago, we have led the way in the big-mountain genre with a number of firsts, including introducing the first 120mm powder pintail (Lotus 120), transferring the word “rocker” from surfing to skiing, introducing the first rockered ski with sidecut (Lotus 138), and the arrival of the groundbreaking Spoon. The Lotus family represents the most evolved big-mountain/powder tools available.

The Wailers are the middle of your quiver: all mountain, all season—maximum versatility. The four models within, and their women’s counterparts, are among the most awarded skis in snow and outdoor media over the last five years. From the faithful daily driver in the Wailer 99; the flat-tailed Wailer 105; the new do-it-all Wailer 106, or to the revamped Wailer 112—the Wailer family has you covered for the majority of your days.

Class-leading downhill performance in the lightweight touring segment, with a prioritization on uphill ease.

CASSIAR FAMILY

WOMEN’S SKIS

Waist Width: 82mm - 95mm

For those who prefer the metal race room feel of Titanal underfoot. Classic, powerful, and stable in all conditions.

Women’s skis are traditionally diluted, watered-down versions of their standard counterparts. In the name of weight savings, ski builders typically cannibalize performance by removing glass and employing flimsy wood cores. Our constructions are already ultra-lightweight and infused with unrivaled carbon performance. For our women’s line, we shift mounting points to create a ski that is both incredibly easy to ski, and has all the reactivity and power of our bigger thoroughbred chargers—skis built for women rippers—not a market segment.

Not every day offers blower pow. The award-winning skis in the Cassiar family are the tools of choice for frontside ripping, from tight zipper lines to laying deep trenches on corduroy, to carving the slickest blue Maine ice. The Cassiar family features powerful World Cup podium performance with the added benefits of Alchemist, further reducing lost energy and chatter frequently found on the frontside.

The perfect fusion of carbon/bamboo/glass and cutting-edge chassis design.

Incorporating maximum versatility into a 120mm class powder shape was the design mandate. It’s a fresh blend of planing performance and mixed snow comfort that features a more forward mount than any previous Lotus. The architecture is mated with a flex pattern and sidecut built specifically to engage and navigate less than bottomless conditions, while still providing tremendous float and planing abilities in the truly deep.

While the legendary ski shape has remained, the arrival of Alchemist stokes the smoothness factor on this classic. The Wailer 112 legacy has dominated magazine tests and is known as the shape that truly makes people ski better. It has the versatility for complete control and g-force generation on hard pack, while cradling the rider into the world of powder planing performance. The Wailer A112 consistently and playfully delivers ultimate powder versatility and ease of use in varying conditions.

The Wailer A106 shape represents an enormous sweet spot in any skier’s quiver, and the Alchemist layup makes it that much stronger in the mixed conditions it’s designed to thrive in. It is light and ready to tour, yet also begs to be driven hard daily at the resort, or under the ropes. Reach for it regularly when conditions are decent and experience the new Chassis approach to sidecut and flex profile design. It is a ski that bends around your boot, begging you to modulate the radii of your arcs, as you carve or slarve through a diverse range of snow and terrain.

The Wailer A99 utilizes the Wailer A112’s 3-D PaddleTech Geometry™— DPS’ original blend of rocker and variable sidecut. PaddleTech allows the skier to engage the Wailer A99’s slightly cambered 18m underfoot turn radius while arcing g-loaded carves on hard snow. In soft or mixed snow, the skier draws on the gradually rockered paddle. The Wailer A99 exhibits the best on and off edge performance, and the ability to get creative on the most versatile 100mm underfoot package ever designed.

Cassiar A85

The Cassiar A95 leans moderately more towards softer snow than its little brother, the Cassiar A85. The package is accomplished through a slightly higher tip, an altered flex profile, and of course, an extra centimeter of width underfoot. The Cassiar A95 is the floatiest member of the Cassiar family and an amazing flat-tailed choice for everyday frontside and resort skiing excellence. Alchemist construction amplifies the versatility factor throughout the Cassiar family.

Every skier’s quiver needs a dedicated frontside resort tool. Redesigned on a wider platform, the Cassiar A85 builds on the award-winning Cassiar family’s legacy. With an elite Alchemist carbon layup, the Cassiar A85 excels as a thoroughbred all-mountain performer with more power and edge grip than significantly narrower and heavier conventionally made skis. A 15m turn radius allows the skier to ride the sidecut for precise, powerful carves on-piste, while the newly shaped tip and tail rocker profiles facilitate easy turn entry and slip in crud, moguls, and trees.

Powder in the morning, crud in the afternoon, and carved groomed arcs down for après. The Yvette A112 combines the loose and early planing feel of a fully rockered ski with aggressive sidecut and slight camber underfoot. Taking cues from the redesign of the Wailer 112RP2, the legend continues as the Yvette A112 features an even greater sweet spot geared for optimal high-speed and crud performance.

The soon-to-be classic Zelda A106 shape emerges in Alchemist carbon sweetness. There isn’t a more powerful, positively connected ski construction on earth. It is matched with a flex pattern and rocker line that is forgiving in the shovel—easily ushering you into turns that evolve into powerful rewarding finishes. Skiers also benefit from Alchemist’s infinite flex life. Zelda is the dream package: ideal for resort skiing, faraway trips, and tours—or whatever you throw at it in varying conditions.

Based on the award-winning Yvette 112RP2 platform, the Nina A99 exhibits similar versatility in a narrower package. The Nina A99 utilizes the Yvette’s 3-D PaddleTech Geometry™—DPS’ original blend of rocker and variable sidecut. PaddleTech allows the skier to engage the Nina’s slightly cambered 18m underfoot turn radius for arcing g-loaded carves on hard snow. In soft or mixed snow, the skier draws on the gradually rockered paddle to get creative.

Touring skis are traditionally 60-80mm toothpicks designed for fast ascents and regimented skin tracks. Well, the best untracked snow is worth walking for. The award-winning Wailer 112 Tour1 weighs less than most significantly narrower traditional fiberglass touring shapes, but still delivers carbon’s inherent power benefits in deeper and mixed snow. Go strong for days with this legitimately light uphill supercharger, and one of the most soft-snow versatile and easiest skiing shapes in the history of the sport.

The iconic Wailer 99 shape precedes itself with its long line of noted accomplishments across all construction types. It’s a winning design with countless best-in-class awards. Its ultralight, torsionally responsive carbon laminate construction, achieves the epitome of versatility: energy-saving, lightweight, but offering rare slarveability and nimbleness in a touring-specific 100mm underfoot package.

If you live in a consistently snowy region that usually delivers in centimeters or inches, not feet and meters, then the Wailer’s 106mm waist is an ideal central piece of your quiver. The Wailer 106 Tour1 is ultralight and polite in the skin track. Keep it broad, with one ski in your bag for a utility knife approach that delivers broad pleasure and predictable precision due to its Chassis-driven rocker and sidecut design.

The Zelda 106 Tour1 offers a seriously fun touring package. It is arguably the safe centerpiece for touring in the widest range of conditions. Mount tech bindings on the Zelda and use it from scrappy early November action to that last magical June corn day—and everything in-between. Many will argue that the Zelda’s waist-width and turn radius combination delivers the most terrain/snow range of any ski design in existence.

The Wailer 105 is an iconic workhorse in the DPS quiver. Old school in nature with a Hybrid T2 metal laminate construction and flat-tailed roots, the 105 has the shaping characteristics that many core skiers desire as their daily. It’s a big-mountain ski for alpine-oriented resorts, or alternatively a powder board for shallower snow climates where greater hard snow versatility is needed by midday. For those who prefer the solid drive of a flat-tail ski, the Wailer 105 thrives on both sides of the rope. A directional charger.

It might seem odd at first to mate Titanal construction with a heavily paddled, tail-rocker-laden shape, but the Wailer 99 in Hybrid T2 is a sweet combination. The metal settles down any external influences that might otherwise disrupt a rockered ski with shorter edge lengths. The end result is a ski that walks a sweet line between playful slarves and purposeful, charging carves.

Metal laminates are great for 105mm waist skis and down. Explore too much above the 100mm waist width in metal and the result becomes too heavy and cumbersome. The Cassiar 95 hits an ideal all-mountain sweet spot for Hybrid T2; the waist width and flat tail beg to be driven through crud and soft snow all over the ski area. This is a classic shape/build proposition where you can truly rail GS on the groomed, and then flip the switch and have fun in chewed-up open bowls, or a tight tree run days after the storm.Â

The Cassiar 85 shines in a traditional race room metal build, Hybrid T2. This is a dedicated frontside shape that is stable, quiet and planted at speed, yet exhibits all the torsional stiffness and power that Titanal is known for. Welcome to an exciting new blend of everyday accessibility, and powder-planing performance. The Wailer 112 changed the design paradigm in terms of creating a new level of powder versatility. When designing the next generation 120mm+ class powder shape, we wanted to add a sprinkle of that 112 influence to truly endow the F124 with performance in mixed snow. It had to be easy to ski when the going gets tough, yet still have the DNA to charge. The F124 greatly benefits from the planted, stable, and amazing feel of the new Foundation bamboo-based construction.

Why tinker with a winning recipe that has transformed the powder and resort experience for so many? Because we are tinkerers at heart. Wailer F999

The Foundation 106 is a ski to get excited about. Foundation’s novel new bamboo design has taken the overall feel of damping and solidity to new levels. The F106 benefits from a refined rocker line and Chassis-inspired sidecut, which provides instant engagement and a smooth turn finish. Both attributes accent the hypnotic feel of a flex profile that bends around your boot, drawing you directly into deeper, more playful arcs across a wide range of terrain and snow.Â

In the heart of the Foundation lineup is the 99, a shape that diverts away from the traditional Pure3 and Hybrid versions that were heavily tapered in the tip and tail. The Foundation 99 has a longer sidecut length to engage evolving radii as the ski progressively gets pushed harder and at higher edge angles. The rocker profile remains virtually untouched, which means easy turn entry and exit, and substantial float for 99mm underfoot. The F99 is a little brother to the F106 and offers ultimate in go-everywhere, do-everything versatility.

Enjoy piste skiing, but confidently play in trees, moguls or light powder. Easy turn initiation, great float, and suspension in a moderately narrow shape. The F82 leans 80/20 piste-to-off-piste workload.

A classic quiver shape is revitalized in a special construction package. Powder in the morning, crud in the afternoon, and carved groomed arcs down for après. The Foundation Yvette 112 combines the loose and early planing feel of a fully rockered ski with aggressive sidecut and slight camber underfoot. In the new Foundation regime, the Yvette gets a dramatically more responsive construction than past Hybrids. This perennial award-winning design is now damper, more responsive, and easier to ski than ever before.

The new Chassis platform makes edge-to-edge transfers so predictable, intuitive and smooth that the Foundation Zelda 106 is a joy to ski in all conditions. Take her everywhere from soft moguls, trees, and high alpine couloirs—she’ll perform. The combination of user-friendliness coupled with a predictably stable bamboo platform underfoot has never been so strongly demonstrated in the women’s ski category.

The 99 Foundation Chassis is the new standard for mixed snow and all-mountain versatility. The Chassis design places your boot in the optimal place within both the flex profile and the sidecut, which fosters predictability and a powerful response. While the sidecut travels farther up the shovel than the previous Nina 99, a refined shovel rocker profile still lets you get creative on the most versatile 100mm underfoot package ever designed.

From Chamonix to Tahoe, the Foundation Uschi 82 is the perfect waistwidth for everyday resort use. At 82mm underfoot, your first metatarsal lines up well with the edge to create a direct transmission of power from boot to the ski. Foundation’s construction attributes intrinsically have more power than standard fiberglass builds due to the unique bamboo and carbon elements. The Uschi is a wonderful piste carver that also thrives exploring trees and moguls—delivering all-day smiles.
