John Northwood John Northwood was a glass worker in the second half of the 19th century who revived the art of glass carving in the manner of the Roman cameo carvers. He made the first cased glass copy of the Portland vase, taking him three years to complete, finishing in 1876. In 1877 Northwood was retained by Wedgwood to complete the relief of a jasper edition of the vase using lapidary methods. Thirteen signed copies of this edition were retailed by W.P. & G. Philips of London.
