December 12, 12–7PM Our December auction features the collection of Corey Warn and Mark Feldman, the late proprietors of Antiquers III in Brookline, Massachusetts, which specialized in Art Deco furniture and decorative arts, and includes an extensive collection of Charles Schneider Le Verre Francais cameo art glass, and furniture with provenance from John Lennon & Yoko Ono and Walter P. Chrysler. Also of note is an Art Deco frieze panel depicting cultural motifs which adorned New York City’s Barbizon Hotel, and a rare René Lalique butterscotch “Perruches” vase. Furniture includes works designed by Hans J. Wegner, Ray and Charles Eames, George Nelson, Harry Bertoia, Warren Platner, Bill Stephens, Vladimir Kagan, Paul Evans, and Philip & Kelvin Laverne. We are pleased to be offering UK studio works from potter Dame Lucie Rie and jeweler Wendy Ramshaw, and American studio furnituremaker Jere Osgood and glass artist Dale Chihuly. We are also proud to bring a rare Judy Kensley McKie Ibis Ascending bronze maquette to market.

Selection of Lucie Rie (1902-1955) Studio Pottery Dame Lucie Rie, née Lucie Gomperz, was an Austrianborn British studio potter. Rie was educated at the Vienna Gymnasium and at the Arts and Crafts School. Her early ceramics incorporate late Neoclassicism, Jugendstil, Modernism, and Japonism. Fleeing the Nazis, she settled in England in 1938 and, in order to survive during World War II, produced and sold fine ceramic buttons. Rie had her first solo show as a potter in 1949, and showed extensively for the rest of her career— her unique and complex slip-glaze surface treatment and inventive kiln processing influenced an entire generation of younger British ceramists. She was made Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1991.

LALIQUE By 1925, at the height of the Art Deco era, René Lalique was the most celebrated glassmaker in the world. He brought glass into the home of everyday people where it had never been before, and he worked out the industrial techniques to mass produce his useful art glass objects on a scale and cost to complement the spreading industrial revolution and resulting worldwide appetite for his products. Perhaps the most widely known and often noticed works of Lalique are his wonderful art glass vases. In all, over 300 vases are documented, all but a dozen or two being production models that were intended for sale to a growing international consumer base.

Join us: Bauhaus Summers on Cape Cod presented by Peter McMahon Starting in the late 1930s, in the back woods of Wellfleet, a group of self-taught American designers collaborated with some of Europe’s most influential avant garde architects to create the outer Cape’s unique modern houses. This illustrated presentation will explore this history, as well as current efforts to save a group of important abandoned houses, and to repurpose them as a platform for new creative work. Peter McMahon is a celebrated author and the founding director of the Cape Cod Modern House Trust, incorporated in 2007 to archive, restore, and celebrate the outer Cape’s outstanding modern architecture and the creative culture that surrounded it.
