The George Way Collection Skinner is proud to present the George Way Collection. At sixteen, Way began his over half-century quest to assemble the largest privately owned 17th century chair collection in America. After collecting more than 100 examples of seating furniture, he began diversifying his collection into what it is today. With over 200 lots on offer, his collection spans 17th century and 17th century style paintings, furniture, decorative items, and other household goods. Known in auction and antique circles as “The Oak Man of Greenwich Village, he was a frequent collaborator for many antique publications, and examples from his collection have been exhibited in such diverse places as The Folger Shakespeare Library, Staten Island Museum, Fashion Institute of Technology, Historic Huguenot Street, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Albany Institute of History & Art, among many others.
