Have you ever heard of The Great Sphinx of Giza? Well here is your chance to learn more about the Sphinx. If you have never heard of it, you are going to learn about the Sphinx now. You will learn what the Sphinx is and the theories of the Sphinx. Here is also a little fact to get you interested: the Sphinx is two hundred forty feet long and sixty five feet long!

The Great Sphinx of Giza was buried up to the neck for at least two centuries. The Great Sphinx of Giza was made by King Khufu. It was made from limestone. It took about thirty years to make The Great Sphinx of Giza. The Great Sphinx of Giza was made to protect King Khufu’s pyramids.

In the paragraph above you learned about the purpose of the Sphinx and what it is. The Sphinx was built by Egyptian slaves building it. People don’t really know how they did it or whose head is on the Sphinx, but they think it is King Khufu’s. There is a passage way that leads through The Great Sphinx of Giza, but it leads to nothing at all. Some people think there used to be treasure inside or it is still there, but they blocked it off! Along time ago The Great Sphinx of Giza used to be brightly colored, because one of the ears has gold and blue on it. The color just faded away from water and wind. The Great Sphinx of Giza used to have a beard, but it fell off from wind damage. Or the scientists think maybe Sam-ElDhār might have used a bow and arrow, because the nose is damaged from him. We know that he did that, because inside The Giza Pyramids, it says he did. He did that because his people fought against the Egyptians, and they lost so it is like payback. He did all of that around the fourteen hundreds, and he lost war against them in 1393. In that paragraph you learned about the theories.

In this paragraph you are going to learn about the restorations of the Great Sphinx of Giza, how the Sphinx is right now, and 10 years back. The restoration is very hard to do, because Egyptian styles of limestone but you want to look good. Pharaoh Tuthomis the fourth and pharaoh Ramessess the second both restored the Sphinx when they were pharaohs. We fully uncovered The Great Sphinx of Giza in 1925! The wind and water mostly damaged The Great Sphinx of Giza, not people because they thought they were going to get cursed by the Sphinx. In the 1980’s more than 2,000 blocks were added to the Sphinx. The thing they restored most recently is the left back foot on April 2006. The Sphinx is a special attraction in ancient Egypt. DIAGRAM The eyes are 6 feet high. The ears are 5 feet high. The Sphinx is 20 feet wide. The Sphinx is 65 high. The face is 13 feet wide. The Sphinx is 240 feet long. The nose is 5 feet long. The mouth is 6 feet wide.
