BODYLOVE
THE INSTAGRAM BODY EMPOWERMENT MOVEMENT PHENOMENON founded by Honor Curves
GEORGINA HORNE London, England @fullerfigurefullerbust
I have been following Georgina, creator of the popular curvy blog fullerfigurefullerbust.com, for a few months now and truly appreciate her focus on body diversity. Georgina says: “Honoring my curves means dressing how I want - in fitted dresses with shapewear and corsets and belts, or floaty skirts with enormous petticoats. Flattering or compacting my curves doesn’t translate to me hating them, it’s just me getting creative with what I’ve got. It means
This month, I feature four women who own their bodies with such style and confidence. What honoring our curves means to each one of us will always be unique, but there is a theme unveiled in each response here, a song of self-appreciation sung so beautifully by each of these gorgeous women. I am so thankful for the #HonorMyCurves movement; it is a joy to be inspired everyday, by women all over the world, who have gone on the incredible journey of discovering self-love, and are happy to take us along for the ride. If we let the words of these ladies resonate with the space inside ourselves that also yearns to be loved and accepted, we will see that we, too, deserve
not giving a damn about fashion rules but still covering up those bits I’m gently learning to love if it makes me feel better. It means occasionally being sad with my reflection, but reminding myself of all my great parts and all the wonderful things I have done, can do, and will do, with my body. It means never ever tearing someone else’s body down to make me or anyone else feel better. It means no judgment. No slut shaming. No faux health concerns. It’s my body. It’s my property. I’ll paint the walls the color I love and hang the curtains up
kind treatment and true appreciation, at any shape and size. We get to choose how we dress our bodies, how we treat our bodies, how we love our bodies. Hating them won’t necessarily improve our lives, but loving them could just make all the difference, right now, today. View their Instagrams to read their full stories and peruse the #HonorMyCurves hashtag to see countless others whose stories inspire us to love ourselves more and always HONOR OUR CURVES. When you shine, we all shine. Own your curves, accept yourself, and never apologize for your beauty. xox Honor Curves
that I adore - and if you can’t respect that then you aren’t welcome in the neighborhood.”
Join the movement and you could be featured in the next issue. #HONORMYCURVES
7 I adore Felicity, a curvaceous model from the UK, whose elegance and class has landed her a career as a personal stylist along with being a top working plus-size model. Felicity says: “To me, honoring my curves means loving my
body. It means not listening to the way the media tells us to be, not allowing men to sexualize our shape, but listening to ourselves. Thrive off your own confidence. It’s hiding in us all. You’re a babe, werk it girl!”
CANDICE KELLY
“For me, honoring my curves means to embrace and adore every inch of my body even if “beauty culture” has collectively imagined focal points to be “flawed”. I have surrounded myself with positivity of body, mind, and spirit, along with exceptional friends and family that happen to love me as much as I love me.”
San Diego, Ca @candicekellyxo
Candice, a total babe who takes plus size modeling to a whole new level of sexy, has only come to my attention recently. But my breath was taken away the moment I saw her. She exudes confidence and looks fabulous doing it. Candice says: Kimberlee Postell Roanoke Rapids, NC @naturallyfashionable
Kimberlee, the stunning blogger behind thenaturalfashionista. com, has been inspiring me with her stylish posts for over a year now. Kim says: “I honor my curves everyday by practicing the act of acceptance, which means that I embrace myself daily. I even embrace those things that many may consider to be flaws because they make me who I am. It is having
the confidence to allow the essence of my personality to shine through in my style and everyday life. It is making a promise to be kind to my soul and my body. It is showing the world that the number on my clothing does not define me. I don’t allow society to persuade me to believe that one size is more desirable than another. It is the belief that God wonderfully made me, and that I am inferior to no one. We are all uniquely beautiful, and that should always be honored.”

Interview with Ready To Stare Owner/Designer Alysse Dalessandro. In fashion there are great designers, and then, there are the greatest designers. Saturday September 7, 2014 I traveled down to Brooklyn in NYC to spend the day with the owner, and designer of Ready To Stare Alysse Dalessandro. On this particular day, Alysse had her own booth at the Artist and Flea’s market. This is a hip indoor market place in Brooklyn for creative entrepreneurs, and fashion designers to sell items alongside one another. I easily found The Ready To Stare booth which had an abundance of attention grabbing jewelry displayed all across the table. Above the jewelry was displayed popular Ready To Stare t-shirts “I woke up like this!”, “Mother F*#%@$ Never Luh’D Us.”, and “I’m Major”. I had to privilege
to sit back and watch as customers from around the globe came and became mesmerized by what Ready To Stare had to offer. Many people with many different commented on what Ready To Stare had to offer. “That’s real flavor!” said one woman as she explored all the unique jewelry options. “Is that handmade? (Yes!) It doesn’t look handmade!” stated one gentleman. Another woman who has been trying on the gold and pleather wrapped heart shaped hoops proclaimed “These earring make me feel like Beyoncé!” I had to ask Alysee where it all began, what did it take to lead to the birth of Ready To Stare? I learned that February 2012 after attempts of running a vintage clothing company, a degree in journalism, but what it really took Alysse to start Ready To Stare was confidence. One day after being harassed by person passing
31 Fall Winter 2014 SKORCHMAG.COM Vol.7 Issue 4 by in a car Alysse decided she was “Always ready to be stared at!” that other people’s opinions was going to stop her from achieving her dream. “I am doing this for others, but really Ready To Stare has helped me find myself more than I ever thought.” Alysse and I discussed her dream to make Ready To Stare her full-time job. “I currently work with an insurance company working 8am-5pm, and I use my lunch break to ship out orders!” she explained. This is after staying up to 2am, or later working on packaging pieces, or working with customers. “I am extremely customer oriented, and why shouldn’t I be? They make everything possible!” What is incredible about Ready To Stare well besides the ground
breaking designs that are being produces, and devotion to customers is the fact that the clothes offered run from size Small to 4X! Meanwhile the accessories are one size fits all, and if you need a special adjustments, or specialty made piece Alysse and her team will work to make it happen for you. We discussed the obstacles she has had to overcome to provide quality plus size clothing “Every day is an solution to a new problem!” according to Alysse, and that is something I undeniably agree with. There are great fashion forces, and then there are the greatest fashion forces. Alysse Dalessandro is one of the greatest. Deeply inspired designs, a clear vision of the future, and a
drive to provide the best quality garments and accessories to the plus size community. Ready To Stare is a force to be reckoned with, and is a power house that is sure to please. Are you ready to be stared at? -I would like to thank Alysse, and Kristen of Ready To Stare for allowing me to spend time with them during their trip to NYC!

breaking the mold Juliet Roberts is all heart. She doesn’t just sing songs about love, she sings about the snobby girl at the bar, the world issues she believes in and well, anything else she feels needs to bleed out in her songs. “I’m the Underdog and I’m proud of it!” Juliet says. It can be hard in the LA Music Scene, but with a voice that can rip through the mold, she is breaking out in a style all her own. Singing Sweet Ballads to Edgy Pop Rock, she is on her way to some big things. Keep an eye out for TwoWayLight’s New Single “TOO LATE” being released on 10-24-14 and The Deep Bass Song “What You Do To Me” 11-30-14! Terry Kahala, a plus sized Lucille Ball Many of us on the industry have been compared with a celebrity due to our similarity. Me for instance always with the icon Frida Kahlo. But when you talk to Terry, a 6’0 aspiring model based in Texas, it is just impossible not to notice the resemblance with this gorgeous, free spirited and fun woman with the iconic comedian Lucille Ball. Her laughter, her funny faces and her constant way to see life as a journey to be enjoy as an amusement park, immediately help you to make the connection. A military wife, medical assistant and full time mom born in Los Angeles and signed with
Wilhelmina Bazaar Models of El Paso, has been trying to open her path into the modeling world, but has yet to get her lucky break - so I introduce her to you Skorch Babes! As a size 18 and a personality that takes the world by storm, she has no hesitation to share all she has been trough in her personal life, but specially on her attempt of being a model. Since she was 8 years old remember having the passion of being a model, lucky enough to be supported by her parents, and now in current times by her husband, to keep going during every stage of her life. She saw models on TV back in the day and realize how pretty they are and how nobody could put them down.
Terry the Fashionista A fashion lover like many of us, she appreciates that are a few stores that think of us but still Terry thinks that are not enough designers and stores out there, and the way media portrayed plus size people doesn’t exactly make her happy at all.
“My ambition is to be a positive model, an icon that encourages to love everyone as they are. I want to all women out there understand that when you are this worry about how you look and you are single, men don’t want to be around you, you will scare them off. You decide how to treat yourself, as someone beautiful or someone who is not worthy”
Terry the Mother and Wife For no one is a secret that bringing babies to the world changes not only your vision of life, but also your body as well. After delivering her babies, she hated her body for some time, Terry didn’t like what she saw in the mirror, but happily all stops when her husband ask her why she hated herself so much. He told her that she doesn’t have to be perfect, since nobody is. She only needed to love herself

her own way, just as she was. Terry the Aspiring Model Terry is determined when she demands respect for her and all of us: “We deserve the same respect as someone that is half our size. This (plus size modeling) will affect generations that will come after us” says a strong minded Terry.
Vol.7 Issue 4
Something that brings the attention to Terry as a little girl was there wasn’t a very tall plus size model on TV or catalogs to say the least, being always the tallest and thicker than the average was a reason enough. When she shares the not so glamorous side of this industry, without hesitation Terry said “If nobody knows you, they treat you like trash” She never saw herself pretty, she things that media influence and being teased for her weight and height was a scar during her growing process.
