f o s t i f e Ben s e s o p Yoga By Kerri Verna
If you have ever been to a yoga class,
you probably have done a
Downward Facing Dog or a Plank posture. But, what you may not have effectively done, is maximized your potential to help increase both strength and flexibility. By changing how you normally do these two basic postures, you can really make a difference in your body and in your yoga practice. I like to incorporate this sequence into almost all my classes because it is so beneficial.

From Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog pictured first), take the right leg and extend it as high as it will go without opening the hips. Keep your toes pointed down towards the ground and maintain even distribution of weight in both hands. Draw in your lower belly and focus your eyes on your navel.
( Right) On your next inhale, take your knee to your forehead making sure that you are drawing in the belly and rounding the back and exhale.

Health = Wealth 6 Foods That Are Great Before Or After A Workout By: Gioia McGuire
To aid in your pursuit of yoga happiness, you need wholesome, all-around good food. I mean good as in nourishing for your mind, body and spirit. Here are some excellent choices from the experts themselves to help sustain you and keep you energized before and after any kind of workout. Make sure to wait at least 2 hours before working out after eating any meal!
Beets:
Yes, some may say they taste like dirt, BUT they increase oxygen flow to working muscles in need. My advice would be to drizzle your favorite salad vinaigrette on these bad boys to mask the earthy taste.
Yogurt:
Yogurt has proven itself to be beneficial in numerous ways, before or after a workout. It’s a great snack filled with probiotics, calcium, and protein. Opt for Greek yogurt for more protein and less processed sugar. Add fresh berries or whole-grain granola for some texture!
Quinoa:
It’s all the rage in the health world right now and with good reason. Packed with magnesium and complex carbs, this whole grain is perfect for staying energized! Add it to salad or simply top it on a piece of chicken breast with your fave sauce.
Lentils:
Packed with iron, these little guys are popular in the athletic world as an essential for good performance. They help with digestion and lower cholesterol due to the high levels of soluble fiber.
Apples:
You know what they say about an apple a day…. And it turns out they're right. Studies have shown that an antioxidant contained in apples, quercetin, can improve your immune system. Plus they’re filled with fiber, so if you’re trying to control your weight, fill yourself up with one or two apples before eating a meal.
Sweet potatoes:
These sweet alternatives to their much more bland brother, the potato, are high in carb content and rich in Vitamin A for immunity. That’s a win-win situation! Try not to add the brown sugar and marshmallows, unless it’s Thanksgiving of course.
Recently SLAYED had the opportunity to interview West Coast style icon and rapper Lil Debbie. Unapolagetically open, charming, and always lifted, she exudes real and is so easy to vibe with. She talked to us about her embarrassing fashion moments, inspiration, and how she keeps her style true to herself. SLAYED had the opportunity to pull Lil Debbie off her streetwear wave for a sec and style her in beautiful bohemian inspired threads to touch on her vintage roots.

Wearing a red lip is like finding a flower in a desolate desert; it’s beautiful, and it stands out. Treat your red lipstick as the highlight of your face. The bold color becomes the central piece of your entire makeup look, so the attention your red lipstick gets needs to have a lasting impression too. Find your very own favorite, red lip look with these products:
Say hello to your new best friend Stila’s Lip Glaze in Cranberry. The bold, red lip gloss is the perfect layer on top of your favorite red lipstick, but even more than that, the quality it brings is enough to wear by itself. The pigmentation in this product looks like a lipstick, without the commitment of wearing one.
A matte balm that is moisturizing and long lasting? Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout does both. Easy to put on and to wear with simple makeup, this balm is great for days when you have to rush out the door without having to pay attention to the nitty gritty of putting on an actual lipstick. Standout is the quintessential matte, red lip look.
Tips for Wearing Your Favorite Red Lip:
1. Always remember to moisturize your lips with a lip
balm or lip scrub before sporting a red lip. Doing so will help the lipstick last longer and will also prevent flakey, dry-looking lips.
2. To avoid bleeding around the lip, find a comple-
mentary-color lip liner to trace the edge of your lipstick. Using a lip liner also makes your red lipstick last even longer.
3. Because your red lip will be the highlight of your face, try using more subtle colors on your eyes and cheeks to avoid an overdone makeup look.
Need a deep red color for the nights when you feel like a fierce look is needed to boost your confidence? Rimmel’s lipstick in shade 107 from their Kate Moss collection does the job. The lipstick is easily applicable and it is long-lasting. The lipstick does wonders enough to make you question why you didn’t have this before.
The scarlet lip a bold statement for your makeup. Mac’s Lady Danger has the quality of a long-lasting scarlet-red lipstick for a night out. Lady Danger looks amazing with fairly subtle eye and cheek makeup; the center, after all, remains as your lipstick. One stroke of this lipstick on your lips will instantly leave you feeling fierce.
