Dear Slayers, Welcome to the muthaf*uckin 3rd issue! Yay! I know it’s a later summer issue than usual, but hey, it’s summer somewhere in this beautiful world. And it definitely still feels like summer here in Southern California! The top reasons why I love summer are: the beach (duh), ass cheeks hanging out, longer days, and of course barbecues, yum. What are your summer faves? This issue has got to be my favorite thus far. Not only have we included sexy male models alongside our stunning female models, but we are embracing all genders & our physical differences. Yes, that means we are purposely falling in love with our stretch marks, belly rolls, and differently-shaped bodies! Whatever/whoever you believe created you didn’t make a mistake! In the pages of this issue you will find features for your masculine and feminine tastes along with inspiring reads on the fashion industry’s wake-up call to include all body types. Because, let’s be real, not everyone wears the same size or has the same shape, and we need to shed society’s lame ideas and accept ourselves! We are all perfectly imperfect. If we were all perfect already, there would be no reason for us to have long, growth-filled lives on this earth. It would be snore-boring. Let’s accept our differences, work more on empowering the within and never go without our confidence. Use your outer looks to express the deepest parts of your soul. Embrace your body, your fashion, your beauty! I’m so excited to present an exclusive interview with author @MissSayWhatsReal herself, Melissa Molomo. She gives us some invaluable advice on how to motivate ourselves and pursue our dreams. I hope you truly enjoy this issue like I did, and feel free to send me a love note by emailing killinshit@slayedmagazine.com Love & Light, Jean Vintayen

S

hops and vendors line the loud and hustling streets of downtown Los Angeles. The California Market Center located in the middle of it all promises a blissful contrast where different conventions are often held including the once a year LA Makeup Show. Primarily for makeup artists the show provides a chance to renew your makeup kit including lights and brushes, mingle with other artists, and most importantly score some awesome deals on new makeup. If your nine to five doesn’t require a large makeup kit not to worry, you can still browse aisles and fill up your own makeup bag.

Big named brands were there to showcase their new products for summer along with upcoming faces promoting what they have to offer the makeup world. Among the rows and rows of eye shadows, bronzers and lipsticks were a few standouts to look out for this summer.

I

owa native Nikki Hynek just broke through our biggest issues as women: where to store your makeup for a night out. We all have that dilemma of carefully selecting what products to bring in our clutch because there is no room in our skintight dresses and good luck if you can still fit your phone and cash. Hynek is going to take care of this issue, we promise. She created the Dollup Beauty Case, an adorable magnetic case that doubles as a clutch and mirror. The advantages of using the Dollup Beauty Case over a regular clutch is the base of the case is magnetic so you can easily store the eye shadow you’ll want to touch up on throughout the night. Bobby pins are also easily organized in this case. It also provides a large functional mirror that can be set down for your touch ups. The design is awesome as well because it looks just like a clutch. Ranging from three beautiful colors including Sunset Pink, Jetset Black and California Blue there is a style for everyone. Hynek knows the struggles we go through with our makeup routines and organizations on a day to day basis. Born in Iowa, she was the only makeup artist the the area so she saw many different women and learned what to look for. And she isn’t stopping at this beauty case. The future generations will hopefully include a pocket in the back of the case for easy cell phone storage and she has talks of travel bags for liquids.

T

he Sephora Collection launched their new colorful blush line and with 18 different colors you can find the perfect one for your skin tone. These blushes are buildable allowing you to layer on without going down the cakey route. Go for a natural eye this summer and choose a blush that really stands out and is the focus of your look.

I

nglot is your answer to high quality products for a better price. The simple yet effective look goes a long way and stay consistent so you can always find what you’re looking for. Their Freedom System Matte Lipsticks prove to be no different. With a range of beautiful colors you can find the perfect one for you. These lipsticks are also infused with macadamia nut oil and avocado butter to keep the color lasting and your lips nice and smooth.

F

ounder Pauline Youngblood worked as a paramedical esthetician for plastic surgeons and in her career came across patients with extreme skin issues often due to the makeup they were using. This led her to create her brand, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, which satisfies women’s skin and answers the issue of finding healthy makeup. This brand promotes cruelty free, fragrance free, oil free and select vegan products, but do not compromise the look on your skin. These products range from lightweight vitamin and essential oil infused Minerals in the Mist, Natural Mineral Foundation and vegan Incredible Wear Gel Liner. The impact of Youngblood products is beneficial to your skin and will still provide great coverage and color.

S

mashbox did not disappoint in their reveal of what’s new for summer.

If you are on the search for the perfect gel liner check out their New Photo Angle Pure Pigment Gel Liner. These color intense liners are perfect for a quick flick to bring out the beauty in your eye color. The colors range from a classic black to a striking purple. Another hot item for summer are Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipsticks. These promise a beautiful matte finish that swipes on easily to give a great look. Summer is great for lipsticks which don’t work against you in the hot summer days. Choosing a matte lip allows you to add more shine to your beautiful cheekbones to create that dewy look.

The Rise of

Festival Fashion By: Gioia McGuire

The different styles of today have all been seen before. Fashion recycles its trends and we often see the same or similar styles resurface. Music festival fashion has become a hub for inspiration and that boho indie look. But where did we get these offbeat styles for festivals like Coachella, Outside Lands and Lollapalooza? For this, we look to the past, more specifically the groovy 60s and 70s. When Woodstock was in its prime and thousands flocked to listen to the incredible music stylings of some of the most famous artists of the time. Here are some of today’s trending festival styles and pieces that have once again given people a blast from the past right here in the present.
