• You may add open classes online through January 15. • If there are no seats available, attempt to add yourself to an online waitlist—if there is one available. Then, be vigilant about checking your BruinMail at least once a day to see if you received a notification to register for the class (registration must be done within 24 hours of receiving the notification). • If you are still waitlisted when classes begin, make sure to attend the first day of class, just in case. Get your StartSmart email tips!
New students will receive a StartSmart email each week in their BruinMail, accessible through MySLCC. These emails contain helpful tips about services and resources for new students. Be sure to visit with various clubs around campus you might want to join and learn more about services and resources available to you during Welcome Days, January 15 – 24, 2019.

Appointments can also be made with program advisors (see webpage). To be most effective, be sure you have completed your placement testing beforehand and always bring a picture ID.

Financial Aid and Scholarships The Financial Aid Office provides information and resources to help students pay for school. You can still complete the federal application online at fafsa.gov. Apply now to be considered for the spring 2019 or summer 2019 semester. You’ll be notified online through your MySLCC account if additional financial aid forms are needed.

Student ID (OneCard)
If you have been awarded financial aid, you should expect it to post to your account the week before school starts. Any funds remaining after tuition and fees can be disbursed via direct deposit or by mail. Scholarships: The Financial Aid office has information about scholarships. This year’s scholarships may already be awarded, but there may be other options for the fall 2019 term. The deadline for next fall is March 1, 2019. A list of SLCC scholarships is available at slcc.edu/scholarships.
Don’t Get in Line, Go Online with MySLCC is your online portal to many Salt Lake Community College services, including accessing your student information. Please follow these steps: 1. Access MySLCC ( my.slcc.edu ) and sign in to your account. This is where you register for classes, get your grades and find out what’s going on in your classes and throughout the college.

know your student ID number (your “S” number). This number was sent to you in your admission letter. 3. If you need to request your “S” number, go to the MySLCC login screen and click the link for “Retrieve Your Student Number and Username” to get your student number (S#). Your OneCard is your official Salt Lake Community College student ID and your key to campus life. Plus, it gives you instant access to all of your financial aid and campus funds in one convenient card. Students must be enrolled in classes to obtain a OneCard. It is a nontransferable ID card and only the cardholder may present the OneCard for purchases and other privileges. For more detailed information about your SLCC OneCard, visit our website at slcc.edu/onecard. Bus Pass Information: In partnership with UTA’s Ed-Pass program, SLCC provides students with an Ed-Pass for use with TRAX and UTA buses. The Ed-Pass can also be used for a discounted fare on UTA express buses and the Frontrunner train. In order to be eligible for a pass, you must have a valid SLCC OneCard and be registered for current semester classes. For more information regarding price and services pertaining to your SLCC transit pass, please visit the OneCard website at slcc.edu/onecard. 3
Parking Permits To purchase your parking permit, log on to your MySLCC account and follow the Campus Life link to Parking Permits. Follow the directions for purchasing a permit and entering your vehicle information. Permits are $45 annually and $23 per semester. Be sure to have your vehicle’s license plate number before logging on. Your parking permit allows for two vehicles. If your vehicle does not have a front plate you will need to park so your back plate is facing the driving lane. Your license plate is your permit. You do not need a hang tag or decal. Get Your Books Early Course books can be purchased at any of these locations: Jordan, South City and Taylorsville Redwood. In some cases, the books sold at each site are specific to classes taught only at that campus. The College Store will work to help you purchase all of your books at one location. There are also many titles available for rent. Save time by ordering your textbooks online at shopslcc.com.
OPEN SLCC
OPEN SLCC offers students an inexpensive alternative to costly textbooks. In the past four years, students using OPEN SLCC courses have saved nearly $8 million. You can now search the SLCC class schedule for courses offering free and low-cost textbooks. Find out how and check out the full list of OPEN SLCC courses at slcc.edu/open. Tuition Payment Plan Would you like to pay your tuition in installments rather than all at once? Apply online: log in to MySLCC, click the Tuition & Financial Aid tab and enroll in a Tuition Payment Plan.
The first day of school can get a little confusing. Here are some tips to help you: • Arrive early. Parking lots are more crowded the first week of school than during the average week.

Tips for Your First Day • Become familiar with the Academic Calendar on the SLCC website for important deadlines for dropping classes, adding classes, etc. • Print a copy of your class schedule and bring it with you the first few days of school. The computers are busy and there may be a line for printouts. • Double-check to make sure you are aware of the actual start dates of your classes in addition to the days of the week and times they are taught.

Make Your Voice Heard: Join the SLCC Student Association. The SLCC Student Association offers many opportunities for students to get more out of their college experience. If you join one of the student government boards, for example, you will have the opportunity to plan, implement and promote student events. By getting involved, you will develop your leadership skills and learn new ones. Get involved and have fun! There’s more to the college experience than what you find in the classroom. In addition to good grades, campus involvement shows potential universities and employers that you are a well-rounded student. SLCC has a lot of great clubs and organizations ranging from the American Chemical Society to the Zumba Club. Join, participate and contribute while meeting new people and networking with fellow students who have similar interests. Be a Bruin fan! In recent years, the Bruins have had great success in conference and national play. The SLCC Men’s Basketball program has won two national championships. All of SLCC’s athletic programs are perennial contenders for conference, regional and national championships. Volleyball plays its matches in the Fall, Men’s and Women’s Basketball in the winter and Softball and Baseball in the Spring. SLCC’s newest teams are enjoying success in the “Beautiful Game.” This past year, Women’s Soccer won the Scenic West Athletic Conference and Region 18 championships and Men’s Soccer earned its best-ever national ranking at #2. Supporting Students in Academic Excellence TRIO/Student Support Services provides personal attention and support to guide you through college, including building balanced schedules, tutoring, connecting with other students who have similar goals, applying for scholarships, completing the federal financial aid application and building connections at the four-year institution you will be transferring to after graduation from SLCC. Eligibility for the program and an application can be found on our website at slcc.edu/trio.
