COVID-19 Guidelines for SLCC Film Sets COVID-19 Safety Plan Created by Adriele Fugal And Dave Lehleitner

Masks:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

● ●

● ● ●

Should always be worn on set, unless outside with more than 6 feet distance. The proper way to wear a mask is when it covers the bridge of your nose to below your chin Masks with exhalation valves should not be used on set Neck gaiter should not be used on set as it does not confer any protection against COVID-19 Talent should wears masks at all times until the camera is rolling.

Eye Protection: ● ●

Face Shields should be worn to protect respiratory droplets to reach the eyes Should be worn with a mask, not to replace a mask

Nitrile Gloves and faceshields are available upon request

Prep Day

Send out a COVID-19 Screening Survey: ○

Ask about symptoms

Travel history

If cast and crew have had COVID-19 in the past

Have been exposed to someone with COVID-19

Make sure to look at the collected data and use it to make best decisions during production day

All departments should check out, prep and disinfect their own equipment. Follow all instruction from ER staff.

SLCC Specific Rules for Shoot Day ●

Talent poses one of the greatest risks and is also the most vulnerable- Keep good social distancing from talent. If a crew member must come within 6 feet of the talent while they are not wearing a mask, crew members should wear a mask and faceshield. (Faceshields available on request) Talent will need to be in close contact with each other. Keep them at a distance when possible. Casting family members/ roommates/ or real life partners can help mitigate the spread between cast members if you have close contact scenes.

Don’t share or pass around equipment- run it like a union set. Don’t change departments midway thru the day. (Only AC/ DP touches the camera, only electrics touch cable, only Art moves props and furniture etc.)

However large the crew, Limit number of people on set at a time. When you are lighting, the cast (1st team) is in a different area, when filming, all non essential people (2nd team) are off the set. You really only need a director, DP, 1st AC and sound in the room for most shots. ●

Stage extra equipment and people outside or in large, well ventilated areas.

SLCC Film Set Rules Shoot Day Cont. ●

Open doors and windows when not filming. Prop open doors when doing large moves so everyone isn’t touching the same door knob.

Rethink small, tight locations like bathrooms and car interiors. Could the scene take place somewhere else? Outside is best and take advantage of our beautiful scenery!

When possible/available for checkout, use a directors monitor, wireless follow focus, and wireless mics to keep crew away from the talent and each other. Have talent place their own lav mics.

Think about using gimbals and remote heads on dollies or in other moving camera situations to keep the camera operator and dolly grip separate.

Have each department transport their own gear- camera, sound and art should be transported and loaded separately from Grip and Electric. Departments load/ unload their own gear, and keep it safe overnight.

If carpooling, everyone should be wearing masks.

Shoot Day- Protocols for Covid Compliance Officer ●

Designate a person to oversee COVID-19 guidelines on set, in addition to their normal crew duties. This person will be responsible for: ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○

Taking everyone’s temperature before the production starts. Doing compliance checks to make sure everyone is wearing masks correctly Hand sanitizing cast and crew hands every 45 minutes Disinfect highly touched surfaces between setups Making sure doors and windows are open between setups Making sure MUA and Wardrobe are wearing the correct PPE

● ●

Disinfect location before production starts and after production is wrapped. Keep a Call sheet or Cast/ crew list of everyone on set for potential contact tracing.

Equipment Cleaning and Return ●

Equipment check outs and returns will be on a very tight, staggered schedule to be coordinated with the equipment room staff. The idea is not everyone shows up at once. You will clean and sanitize your own equipment either outside or in the sound stage to the ER staff’s specifications.

Use the electrostatic sprayer for grip, electric and hard cases.

Clean cameras/ sound and all electronics with alcohol wipes. Do not spray disinfectant directly on any electronics, but spray a cloth or wipe, then wipe down the gear.

Do not use alcohol on the glass elements of the lenses. Use ONLY lens cleaner.

Do not use Lysol type spray on touchscreens or monitors, use only ISO alcohol. Again spraying a cloth or wipe and never the equipment directly.

Catering:

Crafty and Catering During COVID-19

Bring your own food or order individual meals. No more pizza parties!

Crafty: ● ● ●

Meals and snacks should be served in individually packaged or wrapped portions Eating utensils should be disposable and individually wrapped Handwashing facilities and/or hand sanitizer should be readily accessible at the entrance of any designated eating area and must be used when entering and leaving the area. Avoid using or sharing items or condiments. These items should be disposable and single serving. Plastic water bottles are easy to mix up ownerscrew should bring their own water bottles and refill from a safe, sanitized water source.

Hair and Makeup

Hair and Makeup Artist: Have Talent apply own makeup and hair. For SFX makeup follow these guidelines: ● ●

Always wash or disinfect your hands before sessions Should wear a mask and a shield when in working in close contact with the talent

Background actors should come to set with their hair and makeup already styled

Both Hair and Makeup and Wardrobe should have their own hand sanitizing stations

Let’s Talk about Location Scouts

● ●

Should be done virtually In case in person location is necessary, follow these guidelines: ○ Location should be treated as infected ○ Give consideration to size and space when deciding among location options ○ everyone should be practicing physical distancing; masks, gloves, booties, etc. ○ Allow adequate ventilation of indoor locations. ○ Have handwashing and hand sanitizing stations ○ Only designated ‘essential’ crew will participate the scout ○ While at location, have as much conversation outside as possible.
