aroussia Rebecq, founder of the creative collective Andrea Crews, finds concepts like »ethical« and »sustainable« with respect to fashion about as sensible as overpriced, organic tofu. Even if the philosophy of Andrea Crews is bound rigorously to these concepts, classifications aren’t welcome. This too applies to the name. Is Andrea a German woman or an Italian man? »Our collections are androgynous; and our team likes to be undefined in the same way.« The team is a colorful mix of artists, musicians and performers, united under the goal of taking old clothes from second-hand shops, recycling them, and making them suitable for the runway. They’re living ideas like environmental consciousness and sustainability, but not strictly dogmatically, rather with humor and sensuality. Fashion, art, decadent hedonism and activism are all equally important and are taken just as seriously. In this manner they ensure ethical production conditions for their collections. »The current collection was produced with seamstresses in Delhi on site. We don’t want to just send finished sketches to the other end of the world, cross our fingers, and wait to see what comes back,« explains Anji Dinh-Van, a member of Andrea Crews. For sleek, the Finnish singer Olivia Merilahti from the band »the dø« posed in pieces from the Indian inspired »Jogging Collection« in front of French photographer Marianne Maric’s objectives. When it all goes back to nature, nationality plays about as big a role as classification.

ie Gründerin des Kreativ-Kollektivs Andrea Crews, Maroussia Rebecq, findet Begriffe wie »ethisch« oder »nachhaltig« in bezug auf Mode genauso sinnvoll wie überteuertes Bio-Tofu. Auch wenn die Philosophie von Andrea Crews mit genau diesen Begriffen verknüpft ist: Zuordnungen sind nicht erwünscht. Das fängt schon beim Namen an: Ist Andrea eine deutsche Frau oder ein italienischer Mann? »Beides, unsere Kollektionen sind androgyn; und unser Team läßt sich genauso wenig leicht definieren.« Das Team, das ist ein bunter Mix aus Künstlern, Musikern und Performern, vereint im Ziel, alte Kleidung aus Second-Hand-Läden oder Altkleidersammlungen zu recyceln und laufstegtauglich zu machen. Begriffe wie Umweltbewußtsein und Nachhaltigkeit zu leben, aber nicht angestrengt dogmatisch, sondern mit Humor und Sinnlichkeit. Mode, Kunst, Aktivismus, Party, das ist alles gleich wichtig und wird alles gleich ernst genommen. So wird bei den Kollektionen streng auf korrekte Produktionsbedingungen geachtet: »Die aktuelle Kollektion wurde gemeinsam mit Näherinnen vor Ort in Delhi produziert; wir wollen nicht einfach fertige Produktionsskizzen ans andere Ende der Welt schicken und Däumchen drehen, bis die Ergebnisse zurückkommen«, erklärt Anji Dinh-Van, Teil von Andrea Crews. Für sleek posiert die finnische Sängerin Olivia Merilahti von der Band »the dø« in Teilen der indisch inspirierten »Jogging Collection« vor dem Objektiv der Französin Marianne Maric. Wenn es zurück zur Natur geht, spielen Zuordnungen wie Nationalität eben keine Rolle.
