Motivational Letter 2
Dearest Slemsians,
Allow me to provide an introduction, I am Fatmata Bintu Barrie, a fourth year medical student, standing committee director for SCORE 2022/2023 executive term and a Vice presidential candidate for 2023/2024 executive term.
Throughout my time, I have held various roles within SLEMSA, this has granted me the opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of each position and it’s respective responsibilities, thereby enabling me to deliver optimal results. Below are some of the positions I have served in within SLEMSA.
OC member SLEMSA dinner 2019
Local Officer on Research Exchange for SCORE 2020-2021
Class Ambassador for SLEMSA (won Best Ambassador of the year ) 2021
Director of Protocols for the 7th General Assembly
OC member for African Regional Meeting (Venue and Accommodation) 2022
SLEMSA -SCORE representative for IFMSA August meeting (2021)
I have been in medical school for 6 years now, after many years of dedication to advocacy, innovation and robotics in high school, it was with a unilateral mindset to study medicine, get distinctions and graduate as one of the best medical students. During my primary school years, I held the position of Head Girl and later served as a school prefect and an orange belt bearer at Annie Walsh Memorial School. Additionally, in 2016, I was recognized as the Best Female Innovator and went on to represent my country in the first-ever robotics competition in 2017, as the only female participant. However, upon enrolling at COMAHS, I made the decision to set aside my passions for advocacy, innovation, robotics, and music, and distanced myself from various organizations.
As I progressed through medical school, I came to the realization that I could not attain a sense of fulfillment without actively engaging in activities that bring about significant changes in people's lives. Moreover, I recognized my unwavering passion for being a proactive agent of positive change, an ambitious pursuer of my dreams, and a capable leader - in addition to my aspirations of becoming a medical doctor.

3 Motivational Letter
Over the course of six years, I have been an active member of these esteemed associations, which serve as a pivotal point of transition for individuals seeking to move beyond merely possessing an MBChB degree and becoming exceptional doctors capable of serving in various capacities.
After reflecting on my thoughts and past experiences working with organizations such as the American Society for Microbiology, Innovate Salone, First Global Robotics, and SLEMSA, I have come to the realization that there is a significant amount of work yet to be done. This includes setting higher standards, creating more opportunities for our colleagues, rebranding the association to garner maximum member interest, and enhancing capacity building and social networking skills.
In my opinion, true leadership involves elevating those around you and leaving a lasting impact even after your departure. Through my involvement with SCORE, I am proud to say that we have successfully created a group of aspiring researchers who now stand out among their peers in the medical community and are even competing on an international level.
It is deem necessary for us to take into consideration the explicit and remarkable role female leaders have been playing in society especially with modern days development. Women like Dilma Rousseff-president of Brazil, Tarja Halmen -president of Finland, Kamala Harris -vice president of USA and my very self, who was nominated among 2001 women within Sierra Leone and made it to the top 50 most influential women in Sierra Leone. These are all examples of women who, during their time in leadership roles, consistently demonstrated their best efforts and successfully brought out the best in those around them.
I strongly believe that teamwork is the key to success, and I am confident in my ability to work effectively with any team member in order to achieve our shared goals while staying true to my passion. If elected as Vice President, I pledge my loyalty to SLEMSIANS and to upholding the structure and constitution of the association. Let us come together to set high standards and ensure that all members of SLEMSA, regardless of their committee or personal preferences, are able to benefit from the association and give back to others with happiness. My ultimate goal is to bring SLEMSA to the Slemsians.
Kind Regards,
Fatmata Bintu Barrie

One of the main obstacles to retaining the interest of members is the insufficient level of ongoing engagement and creativity within the association.
