Motivation Letter Dear SLEMSA, My name is Adesola O.G. Jegede and I am a SLEMSian. This is a vital part of whom I am today and it has been an interesting process getting here. I entered medical school with no intention of joining any organization. A friend invited me to my first NGA and I was intrigued. Intrigued and confused. What was this all about? It took two years for me to finally work out what SLEMSA had to offer and what I had to offer to and through SLEMSA. Even more than that, with the opportunity to attend and participate in IFMSA meetings, I have a clear perspective of not just the strengths of SLEMSA but also its lapses and thus, the opportunities for growth and development. As a member of SLEMSA who has a rounded understanding of the activities and potential impact, I, therefore, believe that it is my responsibility as a member to leave the organization better I met it. I desire and aim to provide and implement solutions to whatever problems that I see, and to ensure that those coming behind me do not have to face the same issues that I did. That is progress. Why SCOME though? Why not any other standing committee? When I joined SLEMSA, I planned to explore all the standing committees. It seemed like a foolproof way to acquire maximum knowledge and exposure. SCOME was my second and last stop. Once I entered, I did not want to leave. It was a perfect fit. My ideology and ideas perfectly aligned with SCOME’s vision: The personal and professional development of medical students. And why NOME? Why not another position? Because I want to give others the opportunities I had and those I did not have. I want us to become a medium through which medical students can become better practitioners, passionate advocates, and outstanding leaders. I want to ensure that every member of SCOME has a platform to touch the world in their way. I want to make SCOME a podium for medical education with medical students as both students and teachers. I know this is work. But I have never been scared of work. I know this will be costly, time-consuming, and sometimes thankless. But I am not here for money, fame, or glory. I am not here to pass time, to beef up my CV, or to carve out my nation. I am here because I want SCOME to be a source of education and development. And I believe that together, we make this happen. Ever Faithfully, Adesola O.G. Jegede.

PLAN OF ACTION FOCUS 1: Active Member Involvement and Continuity I intend to work with the members of SCOME to design a collection of programs we are interested in executing as a team. I will ensure that every member, has room for active participation, skill development, and leadership. I also intend to put systems in place to preserve the work of the standing committee regardless of leadership changes.

FOCUS 2: Internal and International Collaboration I intend to work with other SC Directors and NOMEs within and outside SLEMSA. I aim to implement several programs that will involve partnering with other standing committees within SLEMSA and with different SCOME chapters within IFMSA-Africa

FOCUS THREE: Outreach and Advocacy A vital part of SCOME is the mandate of educating the general populace on emergent health-related issues, especially those that plague our communities. I intend to ensure that we go beyond being reservoirs of knowledge and begin to share said knowledge with the end consumers - our potential patients.

FOCUS FOUR: Academic and Professional Development Last but by no means the least is Focus 4. We are first and foremost medical students. SLEMSA and SCOME will become redundant if we do not help medical students grow and excel in their careers. Therefore this will be a primary focus of our events. I intend to work with my standing committee to develop programs and activities that will be targeted at teaching us skills we will need and allowing us to interact with experienced medical professionals.
