ŠIBENIK, listen to this! The Šibenik singing association 'Kolo' and the Symphony orchestra of the Armed forces of the Republic of Croatia will perform 'The Queen Symphony' composed by Tolga Kashif in honour of the celebrating city AUTHOR ena milan
To mark the 950th anniversary, St. Michael’s Fortress, Šibenik singing association 'Kolo' and the Symphony orchestra of the Armed forces of the Republic of Croatia are preparing a special performance: "The Queen Symphony"! On this occasion, the premiere performance of "The Queen Symphony" is to be held on June 10 on St. Michael’s Fortress in Šibenik. This is

a masterpiece of composer Tolga Kashif inspired by the songs of the popular group Queen, such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Will Rock You", "We Are the Champions" and "Who Wants to Live Forever".
The symphony to be performed by the Symphonic wind orchestra OSRH is mostly instrumental with casual, very powerful and distinct choir parts. This will be a completely different
approach from anything that ‘Kolo’ has ever performed until now, and the Šibenik audience will see them in a somewhat unusual edition. Besides the "The Queen Symphony", "Kolo" will start with some compositions of the group "Queen" in choral performance. The reason for the choice of such a program is the 70th anniversary of the birth of Freddy Mercury which is being mentioned and celebrated by the entire music world this year.
Tickets in sale Tickets for "The Queen Symphony" concert can be bought at all sale venues, ticket offices of St. Michael’s Fortress in Šibenik and Barone (every day form 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.), in the Event system at www.eventim. hr and at all Event sale venues (Tisak kiosks and Petrol petrol stations) and also at www.croatia-tickets.com at the price of 100 kunas.

Practical advices
Due to its pleasant odour and curative properties, the Romans used it for their baths while the Greeks used it mostly for medical proposes. Its effectiveness in various difficulties is widely known and there is almost no home whose wardrobe is not protected by a small bag of lavender flower. It is a traditional medicine for the pacification and alleviation of insomnia and headaches, anxiety, depression, tension and stress.
Why is lavender so magical? 8
1
Mix a few drops of etheric lavender oil with olive oil which is an excellent combination for nurturing the body, hair and face, particularly after sunbathing. Add a few drops of etheric lavender oil to neutral oil (sesame oil), spread it over your temples and the back part of your neck to remove headaches and tension. Pour one litre of boiling water over four spoons of dry lavender flowers. Let it stay for five min-

Insect stings: place a drop or two of etheric oil directly over the sting.
When tired pour apple vinegar over two handfuls of lavender flowers and leave it under the sun. Filter after two weeks. It is used by taking deep breaths over it.
Split has joined the community of 450 world cities with Uber, a mobile service which causes regular taxi prices to drop wherever it is introduced. The service is called UberX and it enables professional drivers, operating via a company or a special craft licensed for providing vehicles with drivers to clients, to offer their services. Drives are paid for by a card and not with cash via the application and you will know an approximate price of the drive before the driver arrives. It basically works by connecting people who need to get from point A to point B with drivers who can provide the service. Uber prices in Split have already been made public. The starting price is 9 kuna and each following kilometre is paid an additional 5 kuna, with an extra 0.5 kuna added to the final amount for each minute of the drive.
A TAXI RIDE IN A FEW STEPS 1. Install Uber using iTunes, Google Play or Windows Store 2. Sign up, enter your email address, phone number and basic credit card data 3. When you need a ride, just open the application, choose your starting point and destination. 4. You will then see the closest vehicles and the approximate price of the ride. 5. Once you've confirmed the ride, you will see the driver's face, name, average rating as well as the vehicle type and registration table number. 6. After the service is provided, you will get a digital invoice with the route you took. You can also rate the driver and the driver can rate you as a passenger.

Electricity Šibenik Šibenik was the first city in the world to be lighted by electricity through a hydro power plant back in the year 1895. The replica of such a lamp, which was the work of the first city electrical lighting, stands on Marulić Square while the idea of building a hydro power plant came from the mayor of the time, Ante Šuput. His house was the first private house with electricity, and besides his house one of the first to enjoy this “privilege” was the brothel.

The gravestone of a sevenyear-old Roman boy Gaius Laberius, who holds a sphere in his hand decorated with a network of connected hexagons, a symbol of real leather beauty is considered to be from proof that the first football in Europe was played here in the Cetina region. It was found on the Tilurium archaeological site, in the locality of Gardun, and dates from the 2nd century. Today it is walled into the façade of a stone house in Vrlička Street in Sinj. The monument is 113 centimetres high and 46 centimetres wide. Roman soldiers and sons of distinguished persons played football in Gardun, but the game was originally Illyrian and the Delmats, an Illyrian tribe, played football much earlier than the arrival of the Romans army. This is also confirmed by the fact that nowhere in the Roman Empire, except for Gardun, no sample was found connected with this game.

If you're visiting Split for three days, you'll have more time to discover the charm of the city at the foot of Mount Marjan. Apart from walking around Diocletian's Palace you can also enjoy the city's relaxed Mediterranean vibe - a true antidote for stress. Just sit at the Waterfront or one of city squares, like the locals do. Sitting around a cup of coffee and having endless chats is what the city spirit is all about. Join them!

Make sure you take a walk in neighbourhoods where the old Split essence is still present, such as Veli Varoš and Radunica, or visit Matejuška, a fishermen's port where spirits of the city's star-crossed lovers, Roko and Cicibela, are still alive. The old Split we mentio-

Make sure you reserve a day for discovering Mount Marjan; don't just walk to the observation point, but carry on exploring forest trails. The Mount Marjan area is ideal for all sorts of recreational activities walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, kayaking, etc. This forest park located at the western part of the Split peninsula has for ages been the city's main symbol, serving as its watchful guard. People of Split have since the olden days considered Mount Marjan as their spiritual haven. Ancient churches scattered across it, some of them, like the ones on Mount Marjan's southern part, actually carved into stone, serve as evidence of that. Every corner of Mount Marjan offers peace and escape from the city hustle and bustle, enabling your to enjoy the view of Split and its surroundings both on land and in

the sea, all the way to the most remote of islands. This is also the location of Split's most popular museum, the Ivan Meštrović Gallery with its Kaštilec, holding a priceless collection of Croatia's best known sculptor's works. On your way back from Mount Marjan, you can also visit the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments and the Museum of Archaeology where treasures of the olden days are kept. Other museums worth visiting are the City of Split Museum, the Ethnographic Museum Split, Art Gallery, with one of the country's largest local and international art collections, the Croatian Maritime Museum on Fort Gripe and the Split Sports Hall of Fame which preserves memory of numerous athletes who are responsible for Split being Croatia's sports capital. You can also visit the stadium of Croatia's most popular football club, Hajduk, - the famous Poljud Stadium. Founded back in 1911, the club takes pride in its many trophies and the oldest group of supporters in Europe, Torcida, founded in 1950.
Tip one start from the most important historical monuments, therefore, Diocletian’s Palace and the city nucleus, including the most important city promenade, the Waterfront. What is important in such a quick visit is that the urban life takes place in this area so the promenade will not be just rushing from monument to monument, but also an opportunity to join the inhabitants of Split in their daily life.
tip two Although the old part of the city in the Palace and around it will seem like a labyrinth, it is, actually, quite easy to get around. Start your promenade from the model of the old historical nucleus on the Waterfront, and the plate with an illustration of the reconstructed Diocletian Palace.

Paradox is absolutely the hit place in Split, and their tapas, helping portions of cheese with honey, jam, dry fruit and prosciutto are a regular quick dish with a glass of good wine. Even though Paradox does not serve regular tapas, the inhabitants of Split have decided to give these that name. - We are not a tapas bar, we serve 25, sometimes even 30 types of cheeses that come in various combinations. We also serve marinated anchovies, sweet bacon, duck breasts and similar, but people mainly like to eat cheese and prosciutto – says Zoran Pejović from Paradox who is, at the moment, running a successful Split restaurant called Paradigma. Pejović states that Paradox is not that young any more, they have been open for five seasons and guests have recognized their quality. - We have something specific. We present our food nicely, particularly the cheeses, and we inform each guest on the history of the served cheese, where it comes from and of what taste and tradition. Even though we have a number of imported cheeses, we mainly offer domestic ones, Dalmatian cheeses – adds Pejović and he also likes to eat tapas in Paradox.

The new tourist season is coming, and with it numerous new hospitality buildings ready to fight for every guest. In Split, Stari Plac 2, coffee and pancakes bar, in Split 3 quarters, such an action will not be necessary for an extra seat has been demanded from the very opening. Every day and at all times the place is full, and a new terrace is being prepared for all the tables in the interior are full, and all that is a curious attraction. We ask the owners, young Split entrepreneurs Nikola Matić and Dario Šunjić where the secret lies for such a success. - In the more than 80 pancakes we offer on our menu and which are not just a simple dessert but an entire meal. Our offer consists of a sweet and salty programme, breaded pancakes and a well-accepted novelty with no gluten
8
which has become a real hit. News of this spread among people who are searching for special food due to health issues and can enjoy their pancakes without fear – says Nikola, stating that they already have permanent guests who gladly come over for a morning snack, and then the salty programme is particularly popular. T wo cha llenges are waiting g uests in Stari Plac 2, just like in number 1 opened two years ago in the centre of the city. The first is what to choose in such a delicious, wide, and imaginative offer. And the second is to win the pancake, its size, dressing and supplements. This confirms the truth about the statement that food which is much more than a simple dessert with coffee in company. Stari Plac really offers a real and filling meal.

DRINK in vinoNOW veritas
WINES Croatia is well known for great wines that receive awards all over the world. These are a few authentical sorts that you just have to try while in different Croatian regions AUTHOR SAŠA ŠPIRANEC
Wine is one of the most valuable elements of the Croatian tradition and gastronomic heritage. For as long as these parts have been inhabited, wine has been an inseparable component of both the daily routine and festivities. Over centuries, each Croatian wine region developed its own distinctive wine varieties that fully adapted to the climate, soil and expectations of their residents. When you find yourself in one of the wine regions of Croatia such as Dalmatia, Istria, Hilly Croatia or Slavonia, don’t forget to taste some of the wines favorite among the local population.
8
8
When in Istria, malvasia is the most important variety to try. A white wine full of freshness and pleasant aromas of ripe fruits, such as peaches and hints of blossoming acacias. In addition to this basic edition, malvasia can also be found in more ambitious forms after ageing for a long time and developing a co-mplex aromatic set.
In Dalmatia, it is plavac mali. This is the most important and the most represented red variety in Croatia. It yields soft, ripe and succulent wines when offered in a lower price range and originates from Dalmatian fields situated in ravines hidden in endless karst. On the
other hand, when it comes from steep slopes facing the sun and the sea, usually from islands or peninsulas such as Hvar, Brač and Pelješac, it gives powerful, warm, strong and ripe wines, perfectly reflecting the harsh conditions that created them with their richness and concentration.

When in Hilly Croatia, look for aromatic white varieties such as sauvignon blanc or Riesling (locally referred to as rajnski rizling). They also use many other varieties to make wine in the region, but what they all have in common are lively acids and a highly refreshing character. The wines of Hilly Croatia work ideally as an aperitif, refreshment in summertime, or to go with a light meal.

Slavonia and the Danube Region are an empire of graševina, the most important and represented white variety, but also a general type. Graševina is a good-time wine, and is ideal to go with your lunch. It is normally bold and refreshing with attractive aromas of apple, pineapple or citrus, and is offered at very affordable prices. Sometimes, when it comes from later harvests, it shows quite a different face and its aromas, such as meadow flowers and chamomile, become dominant in the riper, softer and richer flavor.

A joy to eat there and very reasonable prices for the quality.

The story of Split is already 17 centuries old, dating to the time the Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build his Palace right on the peninsula near the great Roman city Salona, where he wanted to spend the last years of his life. Diocletian's Palace is among the best preserved monuments of the Roman building heritage in the world,. it is must see.
Sea Organ is situated on the western end of Zadar´s Riva, and can be observed as a differently shaped part of the coast which consists of several stairs that descend into the sea.The Greeting to the Sun is on Istarska obala, at the very end of the Zadar peninsula.
Šibenik is in the central part of the Croatian Adriatic Coast, in the picturesque and indented bay where the Krka River, one of the most beautiful karst rivers in Croatia enters the sea. Šibenik today extends along the 100 kilometre long coastline between the Zadar and Split Rivieras, extending up to 45 kilometres into the hinterland area, at the bottom of Dinara mountain..
Old City Walls – the old city walls of Dubrovnik encompass the entire old city and run unbroken for almost 2 kilometres. The walls are a symbol of the city and offer glorious views over the city and the Adriatic Sea.

The Island of Hvar
The city of Sinj is located in the centre of the Dalmatian Zagora and the Sinj Alka has been taking place there since 1717. It is a spectacular knightly competition on horseback and one of the most attractive Croatian manifestations. Somewhat more to the north of Sinj is the picturesque Vrlika known for its impressive wheel dance without saying a word and music.
The Island of Hvar is one of the most beautiful islands in the world, with mild climate, numerous tourist attractions, cultural monuments, and plenty of wine and olives. Although it is detached from the mainland, everything is available on the Island of Hvar, and there is a feeling of mild isolation, which is exactly what some of us want on holidays.
