2. Buyer pays Slotin Folk Art Auction (“Slotin”) premium of Twenty-five percent (25%) of the Lot’s Hammer price. As used throughout these “Terms and Conditions,” “Lot” means an object or group of objects offered for sale as one unit and “Hammer Price,” means the price Slotin will accept cash, checks and credit cards. (The “Sales Price” is the Hammer Price plus the Buyer’s Premium, plus applicable taxes). Any returned check will result in a return check fee and entitle Slotin to the remedies provided under Georgia law and in paragraph 7, below.

3. Title to Lot and risk of loss or damage to the Lot passes to the Buyer when the Hammer falls (i.e. when Slotin, as agent for seller, accepts the bid). Slotin Auction shall have no liability for any damage to property left on its premises after the date of sale. The Sales Price must be paid upon receiving the emailed invoice. Buyers with an outstanding balance after 14 days of the close of the auction will be charged a ten percent (10%) late fee on the Sales Price. Buyers must provide a credit card number in order to bid. Buyers with an outstanding balance after 14 days will be charged the outstanding balance, including (10%) late fee.

Slotin will have sole and absolute discretion to determine who the successful bidder is and/or may withdraw the Lot or reoffer the Lot for sale, in the event of a dispute.

5. Absentee, phone and online bidders will receive an emailed invoice after the sale including shipping prices and options.

6. ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD “AS IS.” Slotin, for itself and as agent for the seller, makes no warranties or representations of any kind with respect to any Lot. Buyer agrees that in no event shall Slotin be responsible for the correctness, description, genuineness, authorship, attribution, provenance, period, culture, source, origin, value or condition of any Lot. Nothing being said or done by Slotin shall be deemed a warranty of representation or an assumption of liability by Slotin.

7. If Buyer fails to pay the Sales Price or otherwise comply with these Terms and Conditions, Slotin shall be entitled to the following remedies: (1) to recover from Buyer any monetary loss arising on any resale of the Lot (including all costs of any resale or attempted resale); (2) any deposit or partial payment paid by Buyer: (3) to recover from Buyer all of its costs and expenses of collection, including attorneys’ fees of fifteen percent (15%) of the outstanding balance, interest on the outstanding balance of 1.5% per month and costs; and (4) all other relief and remedies allowed by the law. Georgia law applies and jurisdiction and venue over all disputes involving these Terms and Conditions shall be in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

8. Bidding on any Lot is acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. These Conditions constitute the entire agreement between bidders and Slotin and supersede all prior agreements between them, if any.

9. Shipping Is Easy! Slotin Folk Art Auction will be glad to pack and ship your auction purchases for you. We ship via UPS Ground. The shipping charges are listed in the catalog for U.S. continental shipments only. A shipping invoice will be emailed along with the auction invoice the week after the auction. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. If you prefer to pick up instead of paying for shipping and insurance, just email after receiving your invoice and we will remove the charges. 10. Prince Randian a.k.a. “The Human Caterpillar” Sideshow Personal Suitcase. c. 1968. Oil paint on hard leather suitcase.

Great condition. 21” x 14” x 7”.

Most likely image was a late version of a sideshow performer of the early 20th century known as "The Human Caterpillar" "Snake Man" and "The Human Torso".

His actual name was Prince Randian who was born limbless.

In spite of his handicap, he was able to roll a cigarette, shave and father no less than five children.

Self-taught African American artist Reverend Joel Hewlett (1921-1994) was a native of Evansville, Indiana. Hewlett worked at International Harvester and served as an associate pastor of Hood Temple AME Zion Church for 37 years. His religious carvings and paintings, depicting Jesus, biblical scenes and the lives of saints, reflect his deep Christian faith. These works were the subject of a one-man show "EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN ITS TIME: THE ART OF REVEREND JOEL HEWLETT," at The Evansville Museum of Art, January - April, 2018

152. Walter Karl Ginther (1894-1968) Nine Hand Carved & Painted Folk Art Figures. c.1935. One is signed (Popeye) whose underside is inscribed in pencil "WALT GINTHER Pop Eye - 5724 22nd Ave. So. Hand carved and painted figures American culture circa 1930-35. Each figure finely carved in full round with excellent attention to detail and retaining their original paint, and six mounted on slightly domed circular bases. The tallest is 12” h. Minor repairs to a few figures, otherwise good condition.

Provenance: Walter Karl Ginther upon his death to his wife, Helga Olive Hillman Ginther (1904-1996) upon her death to her brother Christopher Hillman and upon his death in 2004 to his nephew, the consignor.

New Discovery

In 1947, Earl Snyder, an architecture student at Indiana University, enrolled in his first art class of his life.

Eight of his works were selected to display at the University Art Center.

The professor, impressed with his primitive style, calling it, “masculine, hard and brittle,” sent photos of the work to a New York Gallery. The gallery organized a one-man show featuring Snyder’s work.

The entire body of Snyder’s work remained with his family until coming to auction.
