Congratulations to ISCM Graduates The Center for Supply Chain Management Studies at Saint Louis University’s John Cook School of Business held the 2013-2014 Integrated Supply Chain Management Graduation on May 22, 2014 at the A-B Auditorium in Saint Louis University. Dean Scott Safranski welcomed the graduates.. There are 53 graduates from 11 different companies earning the Integrated Supply Chain Management Certificate. At the ceremony, two teams were recognized for their outstanding projects and awarded Best Project certificates. The graduates were reminded that they received certification from a top ranked university in the country and it is just a beginning of their long journey toward excellence as supply chain professionals. The Saint Louis University Supply Chain Management program is ranked #13 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and # 55 in the world by the Eduniversal in Europe. Since its inception in Springg 2003, the Center has awarded more than 600 students with certificates in Integrated Supply Chain Management. Many of those who went through our program are key employees in supply chain management of respected organizations. Instructors and staff of the Center salute you for your accomplishments and look forward to working with you in the future.

Best Project Selection Process A special Best Project certificate and award are presented at the annual awards ceremony to each class. The selection is based on the presentation and the project paper. The selection is based on a five (5) point scale and summed to determine the project with the highest rating. The elements that are rated are: 1. The quality of the paper 2. Comprehensiveness and methodology of the analysis 3. Breadth of the coverage of SCM 4. Tangible value 5. Intangible value 6. Implementation feasibility 7. Probability of implementation Best Project Fall 2013 Monsanto Vegetable Business – Lean Logistics This project analyzed historical data from existing transportation routing to establish a baseline to measure improvement potential from optimization of global transportation services.

This project is a study to reduce supply chain variability, improve forecasting and communication, remedy the transportation gaps in the Subsistence Prime Vendor (SPV) supply chain supporting Afghanistan. The project includes two government agencies, and a prime civilian contractor. The study evaluated ways that USTRANSCOM could improve support to Afghanistan as the transportation and strategic distribution provider and how to better link the U.S. transportation systems to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and their contractor Anham. Save the Date Title: Project Management in Supply Chain Operations Date: August 7 and 8, 2014 Instructor: Ray Scott Brief Description: Project management is the discipline of planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling resources to achieve specific goals. A project is a temporary endeavor with a defined beginning and end (usually time-constrained, and often constrained by funding or deliverables), undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives, typically to bring about beneficial change or added value. The temporary nature of projects stands in contrast with business as usual (or operations), which are repetitive, permanent, or semi-permanent functional activities to produce products or services
Cost: $1,200 Where: The John Cook School of Business, Room CK230 Title: SCM101 and Financial Impact* Date: August 21, 2014 Instructor: Ik-Whan Kwon, Ph.D., Professor of Operations Management and Director of the Center at Saint Louis University Brief Description: SCM draws heavily from the areas of operations management, logistics, procurement, information technology and strives for an integrated approach. This course also brings into consideration the impact of supply chain management on performance on the firm’s financial results.
Cost: $600 with a special introductory fee of $300 for non-members and as a single introductory course. No charge for Center member companies not attending the Integrated Supply Chain Management certificate program. Where: The John Cook School of Business, Room CK230 Title: Supply Chain Simulation and Project Management* Date: August 22, 2014 Instructor: John Hamilton, Ph.D. and Mr. Ray Scott Brief description: ISCM Supply Chain Simulation: The sourcing, operations and inventory management, transportation and warehousing, and final distribution of a product to the end customer to the end customer comprise the components of the supply chain. SC simulation demonstrates how these components work together and how to increase SC effectiveness and efficiency. ISCM Project Management: Project management (PM) is the discipline of planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling resources to achieve specific goals. In developing an ISCM project some key elements to consider are the integrated nature of the supply chain

Center News - Food for Thought Possible West Coast Port Disruption - Cause for Concern for Supply Chain Managers Ahead of negotiations between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA), which began this week in San Francisco, a letter to ILWU President Robert McEllrath and PMA Chairman and CEO James McKenna pleaded the case for the sides to come to an agreement ahead of the June 30 contract deadline for West Coast dockworkers.
