THE BLESSING OF THE PALMS
Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
The palms are lifted up; the celebrant continues
It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his way.
Let these branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Celebrant Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. People Hosanna in the highest.

OPENING ACCLAMATION
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
COLLECT OF THE DAY
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
THE LESSON ZECHARIAH 9:9-12
Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. He will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war-horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the
3
waterless pit. Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.
The Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew. Glory to you, Lord Christ.
When Jesus and his disciples had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, just say this, `The Lord needs them.’ And he will send them immediately.” This took place to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet, saying, “Tell the daughter of Zion, Look, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?” The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Christ
NICENE CREED
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

THE GOSPEL MATTHEW 21:1-11
SERMON THE REVEREND MARY LESSMANN
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Prayers of the People: Palm Sunday
Holy Father, as Christ entered Jerusalem, let him enter our lives, let the King of glory come in, that he may rule our hearts, and that we may offer our love and lives to him.
Lord, of the cross, we come to you. You can make us whole.
6
May we accept you, O Christ, as servant Messiah; let your rule begin in our hearts and homes. We pray for homes where there is discord; for homes darkened by deceit and betrayal, for homes where loyalty and love are divided.
Lord, of the cross, we come to you. You can make us whole.
Christ broken on the cross, we draw near to you, we come with broken promises and broken dreams. Yet we seek through you to share in salvation, and to bring others to your saving love. Lord, as you give yourself to us, may we give ourselves for others.
Lord, of the cross, we come to you. You can make us whole.
Lord, be with all who have a difficult week ahead, the scorned and the rejected, those who face insult or degradation. We remember those who will be persecuted for faith or principles, for those whose spirits are broken this week. We pray for all who are suffering from any kind of illness.
Lord, of the cross, we come to you. You can make us whole.
We give thanks for the holy martyrs of God, for all who have suffered for others and for truth, for those who sacrificed for us and are now at rest.
Lord, of the cross, we come to you. You can make us whole.
CONCLUDING COLLECT
Almighty and eternal God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth: Mercifully accept the prayers of your people, and strengthen us to do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
CONFESSION
“Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.”
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive
7
us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.
THE PEACE
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
OFFERTORY SENTENCE
“Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself for us, an offering and sacrifice to God.”
OFFERTORY SONG HOSANNA
I see the King of glory
Coming on the clouds with fire
The whole earth shakes
The whole earth shakes yeah
I see His love and mercy
Washing over all our sin
The people sing
The people sing
Hosanna hosanna
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna hosanna
Hosanna in the highest
I see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith
With selfless faith
8
I see a near revival
Stirring as we pray and seek We're on our knees
We're on our knees
Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me
Break my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I am for Your Kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity

COMMUNION RITE II PRAYER A
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise.
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
[ Here the Celebrant includes a proper preface ]
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
9
Hosanna in the highest.
Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.
He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.
Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.
All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
Our Father, who art in heaven,
10
hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; Therefore let us keep the feast.
The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.
COMMUNION SONG
All glory, laud, and honor to thee, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring.
ALL GLORY LAUD AND HONOR
Thou art the King of Israel, Thou David’s royal Son, Who in the Lord’s name comest, The King and Blessed One.
All glory, laud, and honor to thee, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring.
The people of the Hebrews with palms before thee went; Our praise and love and anthems before thee we present.
All glory, laud, and honor to thee, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring.
To thee, before thy passion, they sang their hymns of praise;
11
To thee, now high exalted, our melody we raise.
All glory, laud, and honor to thee, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas
All Glory, Laud, and Honor (c) Public Domain Translator: J. M. Neale (1854); Author: Theodulf, Bishop of Orléans (c. 820) Tune: ST. THEODULPH (Teschner)
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE BLESSING
The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.
